Dior Backstage Foundation Brush Collection Review

This was provided to me by a brand for review but all opinions expressed are my own

Dior has introduced a new selection of their Backstage Brushes for Fall 2012 featuring four foundation brushes. These are merely an extension of the Dior Backstage Collection which focus on foundation application.

I have to say I was a little disappointed at this price.

Dior Backstage Foundation Brushes is a collection of four brushes specially designed on an angle to offer a different level of courage for flawless foundation application. The brushes come in a soft, velvet case.

Each of the brushes has a well made black wooden handle. Although I prefer the silver plate of the master line of Backstage Brushes (it’s a little fancier) I understand why they went with this handles as the silvers ones would get messy mighty fast.

Two brushes I tried and liked were the Dior Professional Finish Fluid Foundation Brush ($45 each) and the Dior Backstage Foundation Light Coverage Fluid Brush. These both have soft bristles with sturdy handles. I did experience some shedding from both but overall each performed fairly well for foundation applicator or can be used with BB Cream. It’s the price that concerns me though. I can’t see myself recommending a purchase of these when I know there are so many great, cheaper options out there.

The brush I least liked was the Dior Backstage Foundation Full Coverage Powder Brush ($55) as this shed very badly and had scratchy bristles.

Sadly, these are very overpriced brushes for what you get. You’d think the bristles would remain intact sans shedding and feel considerably softer than this for the price.

I was disappointed to say the least.

You can get amazing brushes in Holiday gift sets for ten times last that have better bristles and design than these. Or if you are interested in some professional quality brushes both Sephora and MAC have superior brushes for considerably less money.

So sorry Dior but these are terribly overpriced.

Quick story about dior brushes. A friend of mine brought me a set that she bought over seas. They are the regular silver ones that you can find at Sephora. The eye shadow and blush brush are my daily brushes for over 10 yrs now. The quality in my opinion justifies the price. I think I paid her over $100 usd back then so probably the equivalent of $150 today for 4 brushes. The only other brushes iv’e had that long are my Chanel ones and they are about 3-5 years old for most of them. All my mac brushes die after a year or 2. So anyways I’m sad to hear these new ones don’t live up to the price-tag

the silver ones really are nice melissa, couldn’t agree more, but these ones I wasn’t so impressed with 🙁

It sucks that the brushes are not worth the price they’re charging for it! The first one looks like the Shiseido foundation brush, the light coverage brush looks just like any ordinary pointed foundation brush and the last one is pretty dupable as well. I love my bdellium tools brush that’s similar to the last one, and I definitely did not pay anywhere near that outrageous price for it! Definitely can get excellent quality tools at way nicer price points.

From the appearance it seems that the Dior Professional Finish Fluid Foundation Brush is a knock-off of Shiseido Perfect Foundation brush, I wonder if it performs just as well? Have you tried the Shiseido one (they have them in Japan as Shiseido 131 brush, less money, same thing)?

    • the Muse

i have shiseido’s version cat and yes, pretty similiar brushes 🙂 and less $$=awesome 🙂

the first picture is quite similar to Shiseido’s offering. I guess I can safely skip these since it’s too pricey for the quality it gives!

Shame on Dior for producing such low quality stuff with such a price tag 🙁

What a shame… I’m sticking to my MAC brushes for now, although I am curious about the new Shiseido brush. Have you tried it?

it’s quite good, I purchased it when it originally launched. soft bristles, gives a nice soft focused to foundation.
