Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eyeshadows Barely Beige Review, Swatches, Photos
Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eyeshadow in Barely Beige is one of eight new, limited edition shades for Fall 2012. I was quite excited about this launch as I really love the Color Tattoo formula.
For a long time I hated cream eyeshadows but I’ve migrated more and more to the formula in the last several years. Maybelline did a fabulous job with this formulation plus you can get these little pots for as little as $5.99 in some locations. Combine that with a Buy 1, Get 1 50% Off and you have a fantastic little beauty budget steal.

Ahh Barely Beige is gaining quite a following due to the fact that it’s been compared to MAC Bare Study Paint Pot. With MAC’s Paint Pot ($17.50) weighting in at 0.17oz and Maybelline ($5.99) coming up just shy at .14oz you can easily see the better bargain here.
Although they swatch very similiar I didn’t feel like Barely Beige was a complete dupe for Bare Study. Bare Study has a bit more light reflecting pearl to it. In comparison, Barely Beige is has more creamy beige to it and lacks the reflectiveness of Bare Study. Bare Study is actually a far nicer shade in my opinion and contains less frost than Barely Beige.

But that’s not to say Barely Beige isn’t pretty, it is in its own right. This is a creamy pearlish beige with a frosty sometimes metallic finish (really depends how much you apply). The formula is excellent as it blends easily, has a nice creamy feel with a certain density, and a true to pot color on lids. I find the formula and texture varies from shade to shade with Color Tattoos that’s why I like reviewing them individually. In this case, the formula performs quite well.
My issue with the shade is the fact it comes across too frosty if too many layers are applied so just be careful with application. Although the shade works nicely to brighten eyes up and does a fine natural eye look I didn’t really like the color. It just doesn’t do well with my skin tone for some reason and I end up looking a little too 60’s mod when wearing it.
Overall, Barely Beige is another nice addition to your Color Tattoo wardrobe if you love these cream shadows from Maybelline. It’s a nice highlighting color or great for a sheer wash of color. It’s also a nice Bare Study-like shade, I wouldn’t say a complete dupe but fairly similiar.
