Smashbox Image Factory Air Blush Whipped Cheek Colour Review & Swatches

Smashbox Image Factory for Fall 2012 features two limited edition shades of Air Blush Whipped Cheek Colour ($29). Don’t let the limited edition scare you, I have a feeling Air Blush Whipped Cheek Colour will, at some point, become part of the Smashbox general catalog.

For now, these are part of the Fall 2012 Collection.

At $29 they may seem terribly expensive but they do contain 0.28 oz of product so you are getting a good deal of product for your dollar. The screw top pots they come housed in resemble the MAC Lip & Cheek Colour released a few months ago.

The two colors available are Dusty Rose and Berry Bliss. Dusky Rose is a misleading name as I get more of dusky nude shade of peach from this shade with Berry Bliss being a bright raspberry pink. If you’re going for a sophisticated look pick up Dusky Rose but for more fun and drama go with Berry Bliss.

I want to say the texture reminds me of Maybelline’s long gone Dream Mousse Blush however, they feel a bit more squishy and mousse-like with a thicker consistency but do have a similar sort of consistency. At a glance they don’t look mousse-like in the pot but the texture is indeed a creamy mousse. They aren’t a sponge-y texture mind you but a whipped up mousse.

I did find the pigment a little lacking in Dusty Rose but it quickly builds up easily for better color pay off. Berry Bliss is definitely the more pigmented of the two with a little touch creating glowing blushing cheeks. The blushes have a powdery dry down with a super lightweight satin finish. They feel virtually weightless so you can really tell you have anything at all on your cheeks.

They blend easily and flawlessly offering a very seamless finish. The blush just melds beautifully with skin and creates an airbrushed appearance. The finish is really something to rave about because it’s utterly natural and flawless. For those with heavier hands you’ll love how easy it is to apply these as they never look over done no matter how much you apply.

On the downside, the wear time on my drier skin is a little short. I see fading within two hours and the blush completely disappears within a three hour period, four if I am lucky. So I do need to keep them tucked in my makeup bag for touch ups.

Overall, Smashbox Air Blush Whipped Cheek Colour is a very exciting product. The creamy mousse-like consistency is easy to work with, easy to blend, and looks flawless right out of the pot. I do deduct points for the short wear time but the formula does make up for some of that. Variety, now that we do need. I hope that these aren’t a one off. I’d like to see (and I suspect we will) Smashbox keep them on and perhaps introduce new shades in the future.

Short wear time aside they are well worth a Muse Approval.

A gorgeous formula that’s easy to apply and looks flawless makes them a great blush pick!
