Tarte Statement Lips LipSurgence Collector’s Set Holiday 2012 Review, Swatches, Photos
Squee! Tarte has a new LipSurgence Collector’s Set for Holiday 2012 entitled Statement Lips. I’m so happy about this because I really love the LipSurgence formula. I’m terrible about lipstick and gloss touch up throughout the day so having one of these in my purse or desk drawer is a makeup god sent. It’s just easier to slick it on for some nice moisture and a hint of tint.
And five full size LipSurgence Lip Tints for $34 bucks? Holy wicked deal Batman!
Take a look!
Don’t go by the Sephora details ladies as they list these as matte when in fact you are getting a variety of formulas. Last year’s set was five full size pencils for $29 so the price has increased a tiny bit but still one pencil is $24 and you’re getting five, do the math, total steal eh?
If you never tried these before you’re in for a treat as they leave lips nicely hydrated with a dash of tint. They have a balmy texture that moisturizes lips through the wear with a slight sheen in the finish and just the right amount of tint to give lips a lovely bitten look. Colors build easily as well for more pop.
I think the kit brings a nice bit of variety to your lip world since it includes the original LipSurgence Lip Tint, the Lip Luster formula, and also the Matte Lip Tint formula. You get two each of the original formula and Lip Luster one and one matte finish. I’m glad they only include one matte as I’m not much of a matte girl. The original formula has a shiny finish where as the Lusters have a shimmery one.
All the pencils have an MLBB look (my lips but better) to them and offer sheer to medium color pay off (when built up). They come in a handle chubby pencil design which features a swivel up and down mechanism rather than a sharpener. I find they don’t wear down super quickly so the point does stick around for a good while.
The shades are all new to this set however, check your stash because you might have a shade from a QVC Set that launched previously. I have around 15 of these in my own collection and I ran through them all and didn’t find these colors. Although similiar to shades in the general catalog they aren’t available outside of this set. On that note look out for the It’s a Wonderful Lip Gift Set coming soon from QVC which is a five piece selection of LipSurgence as well!

Note: My lips swatches are a bit off. It’s a rainy day in Gotham so natural light was limited. Also my lips are chapped which made the shades look more red than they really are. Apologies.
Overall, this set is a steal. Tarte continues to please with their Holiday offerings. Many brands will offer you a vast array of goodies for the season in some set or another but Tarte is one of the few that gifts you with full size EVERYTHING in their gift sets. Fantastic for yourself or a friend, this set is a bargain not to be missed.
