Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab Sugar Skull Halloween 2012 Review

Ah you might have heard me whisper the joy of Sugar Skull in your ears before. It’s one of several limited edition fragrances from the Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab, creator of unique fragrance oils!

Each year the Lab dishes out a slew of hand blended fragrance oils in a variety of complex scents to celebrate Halloween.

Sugar Skull has been in my rotation for many a year and I have several bottles under my belt but I continue to buy it year after year as it seems to have a slight change each year that I enjoy discovering.

Take a look!

The lab calls it a blend of five sugars, lightly dusted with candied fruits. Don’t let the candied fruits and sugar fool you, this isn’t your average Halloween treat.

Sugar Skull is a complex scent for me to describe as there isn’t any one note that comes through as dominate. So I can’t write this review saying how gorgeously fruity it smells and how the peach of the scent comes through, yada yada yada….the sugary candied fruits are all combined in a way that picking out any one note is near impossible.

It’s typically a syrupy sugary concoction that’s positively addicting. This year I get a little dash of vanilla in the mix but perhaps that’s just my nose playing tricks on me.

Overall, Sugar Skull is exactly that, sugar…! If you like sugar in your scents this one is for you. It comes with my highest recommendation and Muse Approval as I’ve adored it for years and this year, like all others, I adore it!

A most excellent scent to celebrate Hallow’s Eve with!

Do you haul any of the Lab’s Halloweenies?

Which ones?

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. I’ve never tried these but I’m considering it, I can’t handle most perfumes but I’ve had good luck with some of the body shop’s mists and oils. I may just need to stick to oils and mists to survive perfume.

What’s your fave of this collection?

  • Jessica

I am pretty sure I am going to spend my entire time at NYCC at their booth lmao that’s what I did when they were here last time XD the majority of my BPAL collection is Weenies, they’re my favorite!

This sounds tasty to smell, but they all sound tasty. >_< Anything else you recommend from the list? I know who BPAL is but have never bought anything…

Been lurking on your blog for awhile but never really commented-you do a great job by the way 🙂 Finally bit the bullet after your Sugar Skull review! Kind of expensive but sounds super potent. It seems we have similar scent profiles in the way of foody 😀 Are there any other scents you’d suggest?
