Disney Cinderella Collection by Sephora Moonlit Kiss Lipstick Set Review & Swatches

This was provided to me by a brand for review but all opinions expressed are my own

The new Disney Cinderella Collection by Sephora has launched! It’s starting to trickle into stores as the Sephora in Times Square has the complete collection plus it is available to VIBs online at Sephora.com

Excited?

I think the magic of Disney Princesses has touched us all at some point in our lives. They represent the magic of our dreams as a child and let’s face it that magic never really goes away as we grow older particularly for the girly girls out there who love beautiful things.

So with great pleasure I introduced you to the Disney Cinderella Collection by Sephora last week. Cinderella combined with makeup and beauty makes a marriage most wonderful wouldn’t you agree?

The Disney Cinderella Collection by Sephora Moonlit Kiss Lipstick Set ($25) is a selection of creamy, satiny lipsticks inspired by Cinderella. Bringing hues of berry, peach, warm rose, and champagne to lips these magical lipsticks bring a kiss of color to lips.

What did I think of them?

Let’s take a look!

Sephora reigns supreme again and captures my heart with beautiful packaging. These lipsticks come in a pale blueish gray box featuring floral swirls. The outer box is romantic, feminine, and very pretty.

Inside the lipsticks come in silver plated tubes featuring swirling vines on the cap. They are simple yet beautiful tubes however, they are lightweight and have no weight behind them. Each lipstick is actually full size weighting in at 0.13 oz each. That’s more than a MAC Lipstick so Sephora didn’t skimp on size here and at $25 for the complete set this is a steal.

Shades Include:

  • Lady Tremaine (berry)
  • Pumpkin (light pastel peach)
  • Who Is She? (warm rosy mauve)
  • My Moment (pink champagne glitter)

You get a nice range of color here but most of the shades are suitable for a lighter skin tone aside from Lady Tremaine which is a delightful vampy berry shade.

So you have a wonderful price, beautiful packaging, and a collection of lipsticks inspired by Cinderella herself.

The problem?

A bad formula.

I’m surprised that the formula wasn’t good considering Sephora has been on an excellent track lately with their makeup releases. Sadly, the Moonlit Kiss Lipstick set definitely doesn’t bring its A game.

The texture of the lipsticks is very dry and a bit of tugging is involved to get them onto my lips. Be careful with application and be sure your lips are extra smooth and soft as these will accentuate dry, flaky areas and also add to that dryness as they have do not have a moisturizing, hydrating formula in the least. A little lip balm under them and a little clear gloss over them is definitely necessary to keep them looking their best otherwise they are just very dry lipsticks with a poor texture. This formula wasn’t limited to a single shade, unfortunately, all the shades suffered the same.

Overall, the Moonlit Kiss Lipstick Set is a gorgeous little set at a value price however, the formula suffers terribly here. If you don’t mind prepping well and wearing clear gloss on top they are “workable” if you must have them for collector’s purposes. However, if you simply aren’t interested in a poorly formulated lipstick you might want to skip. They have a certain appeal if you’re a collector however, if you’re looking for wearable shades of lipstick with a nice formula these aren’t it.

Lady Tremaine looks gorgeous but I really had the feeling they were going to be like this glossy and sheer, They lose me also with this one

    • the Muse

I thought so too! actually any glossiness you see was what I placed on top of it to make it more wearable and “pretty” for the picture because they are very uneventful without clear gloss 🙁

      • Icequeen81

So, actually they are worse than the look, that is a shame that color temptress is really adorable I love vamp color but not this way, and is not the idea u have to put gloss to make it wearable it has to be by itself

  • Jacqueline

And i was gonna buy this. Only for the “My Moment” color though it looks so pretty. But i think MAC’s pervette seems to go on similar. Thanks for the awesome review. 🙂

  • Ruth

this was the only piece of the collection that I was excited to see since the packaging was so pretty. *sigh* another disney disapointment.

  • Tammie

Darn, I got all excited because other than the glitter shade these are all “my colors”. I figured even if I tossed that one the set would still be worth it…but what a disappointment on the formula. I have terrible lips already, so even wonderfully formulated moisturizing creamy lipstick is a bit of a fight to get looking right all day…so a definite no to this set then :/

  • Kiss & Make-up

Who is she looks lovely on you. Too bad they’re not that good 🙁

  • Miss_Silk

awwww I really wanted to pick this up….guess I saved myself $25….but then again that will go back into buying the mirror from the same collection…….

  • Lemony Licks

Thanks for the review because I was going to get them on impulse when I saw them on sephora. I then stopped myself to think, “WAIT FOR THE SWATCHES BY THE MUSE!” and I am so happy I did! Disappointing that the formula didn’t work out.

  • Quinctia

That’s a shame. While I don’t give any craps about Disney or its princesses, I kind of like the shades I saw in the set, but I can’t abide bad formulas on my lipsticks. Totally don’t mind if they’re more slippy and nearer glosses, but my lips shed skin oftener than a snake does, so anything needing tons of prep is right out!

  • Summer

Man those were on my christmas list too, oh well i guess i must find something else to fill the slot now

  • Majick

Bummer because the cases are so pretty and the colors in the tube look like they would be phenomenal on everyone. Thanks so much for the review.

  • Butterdaisy

Lady Tremaine is gorgeous but I can’t put up with the dryness. Ugh! Oh well. I guess the polish might be bad too but I just want those for the packaging since I collect polishes and love “Princess Cindy”. I still want the mirror and the roller perfume. Thanks for this review bc I would have been thoroughly disappointed in these lippies.

  • Marilyn @ Lipgloss and Spandex

The price, packaging and colors are so wonderful, but I’m so sad the formula is such a dud. I’m still a little tempted to buy them…

  • Sammee

It’s sad that the formula isn’t that great. My Moment and Pumpkin are absolutely gorgeous.
Looks like I’ll be doing some dupe hunting!

  • Kelly

So disappointing because the colours look simply magical, especially Lady Tremaine is right up my alley.

  • Wednesday

I like all the colors, except that horrific frosty My Moment. That is some early 90s pink they trying to bring back. And they’re of a poor, dry formula? Womp, Womp.

  • Sara

My Moment looks quite tragic in the swatch, the lipstick’s formula and all I mean. But it’s such a pretty pink otherwise. Oh well…

  • smiletorismile

My mom happened to have bought this set and gave me My Moment and I love it! I’ve been using it for a couple days and for me it isn’t that bad, but I always use chap stick and lip gloss with my lipsticks anyway, so that my be why. However the color is amazing! (:

  • Miho Mallory

I saw the set in store the other day and I was so tempted but what a shame that the quality is poor.. For that low price I suppose it might be worth a look though. I’m such a sucker for the pretty packaging. And ‘My Moment’ really calls to me. It looks translucent and delicate. Potentially disappointing but I think I’ll end up giving the set a chance.
