E.L.F. Jumbo Lip Gloss Stick Review & Swatches

I didn’t expect much from the E.L.F. Jumbo Lip Gloss Sticks since they are part of the Essentials Collection. I dunno about you but I enjoy the Studio line a hell of a lot more than the Essentials one.

Plus with so many chubby pencil products like this on the market at the moment I questioned if I really needed another to love.

But I gotta say it’s the best two bucks I’ve spent in a while. Haul some. You’ll be happy with these.

E.L.F. Jumbo Lip Gloss Stick are available in eight shades for $2 each. These are a twist up pencil so sharpening is not necessary. The twist mechanism works perfectly. Nothing is worst than getting a pencil that swivels up but not down!

They are an aptly named product as many brands will call their lip pencil “a lipgloss stick” but few will master the formula of one. These have a soft, easy glide on lips with a nourishing blend of Jojoba, Soybean, and Vitamin E to condition and moisturize lips. They feel slick, they look shiny, and they leave behind a glossy tint of color.

Summer Nights, Tiki Torches, Sangria Starters, Coco Loco

Success!

Most definitely a formula to love. The tint is sheer but not so sheer you can’t see the color on lips. They wear quite well at around two to three hours and remain lightweight and hydrating through that wear time.

The formula isn’t as pigmented as Revlon’s new Colorstay Just Bitten Kissable Lip Stain and not as balmy in texture as Clinique’s Chubby Sticks. I’d say it was most comparable to the slicker feel of Tarte’s LipSurgence Lip Luster.

Overall, at a mere $2 each they are well worth picking up. At this price you can haul all the shades for the price you’d pay for one Tarte Lip Luster plus they are the same size and you’d have change left over from the purchase. Take that Tarte! My only issue? I’d love a bigger range of colors and I wish E.L.F. would label which are shimmer as I really loved the shimmery shades! Tiki Torches is a gorgeous golden peach sparkle and Summer Nights is a pretty beige shimmer but they are blindfolded purchases as the site doesn’t really say they are sparkle finishes! Boo! Aside from that these are a win.

Def haul a few!

They look like a good bargain 🙂 And yes, I’m with you, I prefer the studio line.

  • Cj

Eh I’ll pick up the non glittery ones, I’m not a fan of a lot of shimmer in lipglosses.

  • Rachel

Did the smell bother you at all? I found that weird minty-ish flavor of these doesn’t sit well with me. ):

    • the Muse

no not really…I’m ok with it rachel seemed a lot more subtle than the mint on tarte’s version!

  • OrangeLipstickBlog

I want them all! I was about to place a huge elf haul but they’re out of most of the new cream blushes AND they’re out of the brush you just recommended. ~le sigh~

  • Cindy

These are surprisingly a lot nicer than I thought they would be! From the swatches the colors look pretty similar, but seeing them on you makes all the difference.

  • Saiba

I agree. Their jumbo eye pencils I didn’t really care for as much because of the dreaded creasing (colors were so beautiful though) but these are definitely a win, especially for their price. Love that they twist up and have a pretty good color selection. I hope they do get in some more selections as I like these a lot 😀

All of them look great on you but I think Tiki torches looks so cute! Oh I wish they had labeled them shimmer also. When I got them in the mail I was like, O_o holy shimmer XD

  • vimNvigor

Just letting you know, ELF is having a 50% off all eye related makeup, brushes, etc sale going on until 10/22!! Code for checkout is OHMYEYES. Aren’t they so original? Hehehe. I just splurged on all their inexpensive eye makeup brushes (can’t have too many) and some of their jumbo eyeshadow sticks!!

  • Andrea

Wow, some ELF products I actually really want! I love how Autumnal these colors are. Do you notice a scent at all?

  • Carol

Oh, wow, I regret not buying these during elf’s last sale. I was afraid they were going to be like NYX’s jumbo lip pencils but the swatches look really glossy and hydrating.

    • the Muse

carol believe there is a 50% going on now not sure if these apply to it though! check the site ;D

  • Tiffany Martin

I find ELF to be hit/miss and I love when they hit because they’re so cheap! It’s a great way to experiment to learn what colors look best on you, too, but I wish they had a larger color range in some of their products.

This is going on my list.

    • the Muse

me too! I def have hit or miss moments with them! but it’s so nice when something is a hit! feels like I won the lotto hehe! particularly when I like a product as I’d like more of a color selection for it!

      • Tiffany Martin

Oh man, I totally agree. Yeah, it’s like a secret only you know, or a lotto win, ^_^. If the product sucks I’m always like “meh, it was only like $2” and then I don’t care. But if it’s good the win seems so amazing “can you believe this was only like $2?”

        So much for logic, lol.

I’m on such a high with the Clinique Chubby Sticks right now. Glad there’s now a good budget option. The Revlon ones are VERY pigmented but I find them a bit too drying. 🙂

  • Kirstie

These look awesome! I don’t know what it is about jumbo lippies, but I just love them! Tiki torch looks a lot like Revlon peach parfait lip butter, am I right? That would be a great alternative for me because they’re like $5 cheaper! Going to have to order me some! 🙂

  • Pro Style Studio

I too love the Studio line more than anything else. I go NUTS when they have their 50% sales!! I appreciate your review. I will definitely go out and get the lipgloss sticks. Thanks. Will have to let you know how they look on us chocolate girls!

    • the Muse

yay looking forward to your thoughts pro style! 😀 Don’t get the shadow sticks though, I dislike them 🙁

  • Jia

I was looking for some reviews on this before I bought it and your review was amazing. But I was still worried cause my skin colour is darker than yours so I was looking for another review. And I found this one by Neicy Dacosta that completely plagiarized yours :

      • the Muse

le sigh unfortunately couldn’t get her to remove it…I asked via comments but she has no other contact info. it happens :-/

        • jcbg

That’s unfortunate! I was going to say to take it as sort of compliment, but when I read her entry, I wondered if she even tried the product herself… Granted, I don’t know this person, but I feel something like that says a lot about a person’s character.

Oh well, as you said, it happens. Thanks for all your hard work, Muse! I know all your posts are your own, true and honest thoughts!

          • the Muse

i wouldn’t mind so much if she sourced 😀 oh well! perhaps I should be flattered ;-D thanks for telling me otherwise I would have realized! thank YOU! I appreciate your daily visits and the helpful link to show me the copied content.

  • Michelle Luna

I wish they would say which are shimmers too, because I prefer all my sparkle to be on my eyes and not my lips. That said, Sangria looks like the perfect color and finish, but now I see you guys are all mentioning mint…. eh… how minty are we talkin? I really can’t stand menthol/camphor/peppermint/icy stuff at all, it “tastes like burning” and makes my eyes water. I can handle wintergreen or wrigley’s-style spearmint, but nothing heavier. I’m avoiding the Revlon just bittens because a review said they were minty. (I quite love the flavor/scents of the Neutrogena and Sally Hansen penciles!) How would you rate the mint factor on this one?

could you install a translator please, I.m from romania and it.s hard to translate all, your blog is very cool, nice job!!!

  • Carolyn

Late for the party here….but just ordered about 16 elf items and they arrived yesterday. Really had no clue ( still don’t ) about this brand but ordered one of these and just tried it. You’re right, these are great for that price. Very light but I was surprised at how smooth. They smell a little like crayons too. Will keep playing with it thru out the day. 😊

    • Isabella Muse

yay! I’m glad you like them! have fun with your new makeup Carolyn!
