Lorac Sweet Temptations Lip Gloss Collection Review & Swatches

This was provided to me by a brand for review but all opinions expressed are my own

Lorac Sweet Temptations Lip Gloss Collection is a selection of six generously sized lipglosses all packaged together at a sweet price that Lorac introduced for Holiday 2012.

Fact, Lorac creates some of the best lip gloss sets around the Holidays and I absolutely always recommend picking them up!

Take a look!

At $25 (without a raise in price for the past three or four years!) this is one of the nicer gloss gift sets you’ll run across this Holiday Season. Packaged in a beautiful brown box that resembles a chocolate box of sorts with diamond bedecked toppers this set includes six shades of mouthwatering Lorac Lipgloss inspired by Holiday treats.

Pumpkin Spice, Butterscotch, Creme Brulee, Cotton Candy, Frosted Cupcake, and Candy Apple

Pumpkin Spice, Butterscotch, Creme Brulee

Cotton Candy, Frosted Gumdrop, Candy Apple

The formula of each gloss is infused with antioxidants like acai berry, pomegranate, grape seed, and vitamins C and E to help nourish and protect your lips. Glosses are 0.11 in size so quite a generous size per gloss here. The set includes a range of nude pinks, peaches, and a few popping shades like a candy apple red and a bright sparkling pink.

There is some disappointment here as some of the shades apply and look very similiar on lips. I ran into issues with the nuder shades of peach and pinks looking very similiar (this is why I only did a few lip swatches below) however, with a little stain under them you can definitely add a bit of pop. The most opaque shade is Candy Apple which is a rich, warm Holiday red. This produces full color coverage where as the other shades have a hint of tint to them.

The formula is a little grainy due to the glitter in the mix which results in less than smooth application. This is why I’m grateful for the brush applicators each gloss has. You’re able to swipe that brush across lips a few times to get the smoothest layer of gloss and color where as a sponge might produce some patchiness. The texture of the gloss is comfortable without being sticky however, it does have a little tack which allows it to wear quite long.

Now for the fun part…!

Each gloss is named after a decadent holiday treat and…drum roll…they each taste like one too! Candy Apple, Cotton Candy, Butterscotch, etc…each gloss has a unique flavor and scent. Cool right?

Shades:

  • Candy Apple (warm red)
  • Frosted Gumdrop (bright pink)
  • Sugar Plum (berry)
  • Cotton Candy (medium pink)
  • Butterscotch (pale peach)
  • Crème Brulée (light pink)

Overall, this year’s Lorac Holiday Lip Gloss Set has a few quirks but in the long run it’s one of the best gloss sets you can haul. Plenty of bang for your buck here with a nice selection of shades to choose from. It makes an excellent gift as well!

    Oh no, flavors.

I’m going along, “Those look nice, yay brush applicators, too bad I don’t wear gloss enough to justify–wait a minute, I get different flavors?!”

Have to make myself not buy these to be moderately practical. I don’t wear gloss that much. I have Jordana Easyshines for flavors… Eeek.

  • telle

wow! yay! I was wondering if the shades named after delish food goodies would smell as their names implied! cannot wait for this set!!! thanks for the review, Muse! 🙂

  • Robin

I’ll pass. Narrowed it down to BE s Cool as Ice and/or Anastasia’s gloss set. LORAC was on the list, but after your review its down to those two.

    • Missy

Robin, I recommend the Anastasia Kisses on my List Vol II set over BE’s Cool as Ice set! I own both, and I find the Anastasia set to be much better. BE’s set is full of minis, so they are very small in comparison to Anastasia’s full size set. On top of it, I prefer Anastasia’s paddle applicator to BE’s doe foot applicator! Lastly, Anastasa’s set is much better quality (in my opinion), longer lasting, with a better range of colors. Just myyyyyyyyy opinion and recommendation!

      • Robin

Thanks Missy!! I think I will try the Anastasia line based on your and the Muse’s reviews!!! They are now on my Sephora list. Come on, Friends and Family sale!!!

  • Tiffany Martin

I’m surprised that they don’t look more glossy, but the swatches look nice. Though you sound like you liked these, what properties kept it from muse approval?

    • the Muse

needed more glossiness/shine, wished they didn’t all look the same on my lips (four our of the six looked very similiar once applied), and a little of the gritty texture prevented the Muse Approval. Great overall gloss set, excellent value, but it has quirks tiffany.

      • Tiffany Martin

Yeah it looks like it will be a pass for me. Thanks for the review and follow up, I always like to know what keeps a product from getting your approval.

  • Kitten

Oooo~ I love Candy Apple, that looks wonderful on you!! They sound so tasty too!

  • OrangeLipstickBlog

I think I’m going to buy this and break it up into stockings!

  • JenJ

I had these in my Sephora cart but took them out based on a review I saw on them. This solidifies my decision lol. The value is amazing but I really don’t need anymore glosses and these are swaying me enough to get me 🙂

  • Majick

I’m confused, I have this set and I do not have Pumpkin Spice. I have candy apple, butterscotch (my favorite), creme brulee, cotton cancy, frosted gumdrop, and sugar plum. I’m wondering if it’s a typo or there are two different sets out there?

I wasnt’ going to get these but I put on Butterscotch in the store just to have something on my lips and 3 people asked what I was wearing before I could leave. Stunning? Really? Toss it in my basket. LOL

    • the Muse

hm I don’t have sugar plum is it possible ulta has a different set? that’s where you mentioned hauling right? LOL! awesome!

    • Karena

Yes, there is a slightly different set at Ulta. Carol Shaw said that HSN has the exclusive with Pumpkin Spice. I have the HSN kit, as well.

  • Amy

I love the yummy scents of these but I really hate the grittyness. These glosses had a bit too much glitter for my taste =/

  • Rosie in NYC(makeup freak

I am excited about getting this because I missed out on the bejewweled last year it looks yummy and gorgeous miss muse how are ya my sister 🙂 Hugs Rosie in NYC.

  • Rosie in NYC(makeup freak
