L’Oreal Project Runway The Muse’s Gaze Eyeshadow Quad Review & Swatches

We are pretty deep into Fall now and honestly Holiday 2012 has over taken much of it but the L’Oreal Project Runway Fall 2012 Collection is just now starting to get a wider release in the New York area.

I originally came upon the collection at Harmons but I’m noticing that Walgreens has gotten huge displays as well as CVS. So if you’re still searching have no fear that the collection is sold out. Seems they are stocking up very slowly in some locations.

I picked up two of the eyeshadow quads one of which, The Temptress Gaze, I already reviewed for you. Today I thought I’d have a look at the Muse’s Gaze (ha, it’s named after me!) Eyeshadow Quad.

Take a look!

L’Oreal released four limited edition quads in this collection for $8.99 to $9.99 each depending where you shop it. I didn’t feel like the Temptress’ Gaze was particularly great quality but I did ok with it.

However, the same was not the case with the Muse’s Gaze.

I purchased this on a whim due to the name of my blog “Musings of a Muse”. Yeah, well, I always feel like I need any makeup named Muse, issues.

I personally feel like it’s a ridiculous selection of shades. On their own they might be very pretty but together its kinda like something a clown would buy. You got brassy gold here topped with coral and aqua and a deep forest green…my head hurts. How does even one create a look using all these together? It’s just sadly mismatched for my personal tastes and not something I’d considering using in a single look. Perhaps a single shade on the lid yes but not together.

Unfortunately, the formula is very weak here. I had ok success with the other quad I tried from the collection but this wasn’t as great. I found the shadows very dry and…grainy? Maybe I’m nuts. But fact is they were less than smooth. Pigmentation is fairly ok but the dryness results in a more subtle color pay off less a sponge applicator is used to build.

Overall, the mismatch of shades and poorer quality of the shadows made this a very poor purchase on my part. Hopefully you haven’t made the same mistake of purchasing it. I could perhaps overlook the mismatched shades if the quality was a little better but unfortunately it just seemed like a ton of different things were negatively stacked against this one.

No likey!

Which quads did you haul from the L’Oreal Project Runway Collection?

P.S. Did not like the Big Bang’s Halloween episode. They had the potential to do some AWESOME couple costumes and it just failed. I really was hoping for a silly Stewart and Raj couple costume…! And boo no couple costume for Leonard and Penny! Sheldon’s costume rocked and was funny but still wished it was more couple-ish! The only ones that really mad me laugh would be Howard and Bernadette.

P.S. What happened to Bernie’s voice?

I purchased this item.

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Ick… That doesn’t look/sound good 🙁 I don’t think we have this collection in Belgium, anyway though.

Thankyouverymuch for saying that the colors in this quad are totally wacky together. I wouldn’t even know where to start on building a look with these 4 colors.

    • the Muse

me either lol! you might be able to do the brassy gold and the forest green, that could work, but including the coral and aqua? UM NO!

I think all the colours are lovely alone also, but stupid together. Just outright stupid, and borderline garish. I ended up picking the gold glitter gloss and the Muses’ lipstick (haha) and I love those two items very much. I’ve thought about getting back-ups since I’ve been so happy with the colours and shiny glittery goodness.

Do you watch The Office? Their Halloween episode was quite amusing with a few great twists imo. I just don’t like Big Bang. =[ I can’t get enough Parks and Rec, and someday we’ll get Community back.

agreed, alone they look nice together it’s WHOA I’d never wear that. But I am positive there are 100’s of girls that can create some fraking awesome looks with it but that girl isn’t me lol! hahaha you brought it b/c you’re my biggest fan right? (not hehe). I do not watch the US office ;-D I’m a big fan of the UK version (wish it was still on) but never got into the old one…! Parks and Rec love and Community PLEASE come back soon ;D can’t believe you don’t like big bang why not!?

I actually bought it because of your and G’s (nouveaucheap) review on the colour, and I needed to get out of my red/rose/pink boring routine. I’ve got so many warm eyeshadows, I needed to pair it with a warmish lip colour and it does me well. I’d never have even considered it otherwise (no joke lol), since I tend to sway cool when I’m neutral.

It’s nothing personal about BBT, I swear! I’ve always like Steve Carell, and I need to see the UK version. I’m also really effected by the Reddit community, who loathe BBT. <_< Don't judge me?? We'll always have Oct 19th, and cry ourselves in the corner because life without Troy and Abed in the mooooooorning is sad and lonely.

Hmm… maybe do a wash of the blue on the lid, use the dark green on the outer v and along the lashline, add some gold to the inner corners, and for the red… uhh, use it as a blush? That one really does come right out of nowhere. Lol I tried.

I got the Mystic palette because this one looked to crazy for me. The quality of the one I have isn’t that great either. I would return it but I like one of the shades a lot.

As much as I *love* L’Oreal single shadows, I hate the quads. The quads really tend to be ‘hit-or-miss”, and some are quite good, others have at least one great shade, but some are just complete duds. The singles, however, have been consistently fabulous, at least for me. I haven’t piced up any of these, but I did see one I liked. I don’t remember what it was called, but it had 3 silver/grey shades (I don’t really wear those shades) & a deep, dark wine shade that I want; however, I can’t justify $10 for one teeny pan of a shadow that may wind up a complete fail.

amy agreed I’ve run into some nice quads but many are misses! and why spend $10 for a single shade I may or may not like!?
