L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Diamonds Mascara Review

L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Diamonds Mascara is a newly launched rendition of the original Voluminous formula with an injection of “diamond sparkle” for the Holidays.

I really dig sparkly mascara around the Holidays. It could be dubbed juvenile but I think a little sparkle on lashes during the holiday season keeps makeup festive. However, I wrote off L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Diamonds Mascara before I even tried it since the original formula did nothing for my lashes…

However, diamond sparkle is so bloody tempting isn’t it?

L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes really sounds like some sort of epic mascara. When you throw around words like “Million Lashes” you’d expect some crazy result after use.

Yeah, great marketing, now if it only worked. But as typical with most L’Oreal Mascaras I try this is just a sore disappointment.

Don’t expect sparkly lashes as the formula is indeed laced with a hint of shimmer but this isn’t easily detected on lashes unless you get a magnifying glass and hold it up to your eye. The effect is truly non existent so if you’re heading into the purchase believing your lashes will have a bit of sparkle after use, don’t bother, it doesn’t technically work and the finish is simply that of a black mascara sans shimmer or sparkle of any kind.

The mascara itself is sadly lacking as well. It comes with a round plastic applicator with a straight non curved design. The formula is quite lightweight so it doesn’t leave lashes crunchy or stuff after application however, the lightness of the formulation could be blamed for the lack of drama after application. It promises thicker lashes however it delivers more of a separated spiked out look. Your lashes might appear a bit longer but the brush separates lashes so much that it gives a spare lash look rather than a fuller one.

Lucky enough I only paid $7.99 as I believe the original formula I paid $12 for. If I paid that I’d be terribly pissed to say the least. Sparkle nay, length a little, volume, nope….total score…zero.

Don’t bother.

The sparkle shouldn’t tempt you into a purchase as it doesn’t show up and the mascara itself is just blah. I’m not impressed.

Tried it?

Did love it?

Didn’t?

Do share!

I purchased this item.

When I saw your post I thought this sounded so good! Such a shame there’s barely any sparkle 🙁

What a disappointment. Can you recommend any sparkly mascaras that work? Or at least sparkle well, even if they don’t do much for the lashes.

joni I use one by k palette a japanese brand, sana (also japanese) does a nice one too they have combs which allows you to comb the glitter through lashes. it gives such a nice sparkle I believe I reviewed both a while ago! adambeauty.com has both for sale I think! 😀

    🙁

Did you make it to ComicCon, my kids went, lots of Doctor Who costumes apparently my daughter’s new profile picture is her with a WWII Dalek!

    • the Muse

i did not. i went to san diego comic con but didn’t go to NY’s this year. 🙂 haha fun times! sounds like they had a blast!

blarg, how disappointing! great concept for the holidays but awful execution. guess I’ll try a bit of cosmetic glitter on the tips of wet mascara instead!

I actually see some sparkly in your after shot, but I agree that it doesn’t seem like the mascara did much for your lashes.

  • Danielle

I saw a little sparkle in the after shot but I would rather bejewel my lashes with a little NYX cosmetic glitter & Too Faced Glitter Glue. THAT STUFF HOLDS LIKE NOBODY’S BUSINESS! Maybe if you got super fine silver pigment/glitter that was eye-safe you could get glittery lashes? Just a thought :3

damn you’re good danielle hehe I felt like I couldn’t see it. def can do that but typically just use japanese glittery mascaras, they are awesome, come with combs to comb through lashes and give a pretty sparkle!

I was actually impressed with how well Million Lashes works on my lashes… mine are already naturally long and I just need to barely touch the brush to my lashes a couple times to get a really dramatic look! In general I have yet to find a “shimmery” mascara where the sparkles are noticeable enough… probably a good thing as big sparkles falling in your eyes would be no fun!

  • Ana

oh, I do like running glitter liners like those from ELF or Sleek on my lower lashes sometimes for a more festive look 😀

I’m can’t say I’ve tried the Diamonds version but I’m a die hard fan of the original Million Lashes. I just sent my friend a picture of myself wearing it and she asked if I had extensions or false lashes. I will probably avoid this particular formula because of the glitter; I’m sure it would flake off anyways.

Tried it twice. First time one coat. Second time *today* I applied a generous amount of coats and so I just got done taking it off…and the glitter got all in my eye and blinking hurts I can feel the glitter sitting above my eyelid. I think I’ll definitely go to the eye doctor ASAP.

I don’t really agree with you on this review. I like this mascara, it gives me long lashes and glitter on my lashes 🙂

  • Nikki Craddock

thank you for the review and pictures. i just happened to see this last night at walmart and almost fell for it, but i thought i would search some reviews first. the picture helped a lot, i thought it would be a little more sparkly for my taste! Happy I saved the extra cash! 🙂

smart move nikki! really wasn’t worth picking up in my humblest. the sparkle is so subtle you can barely see it!
