MAC Fabulousness Neutral Eyes Palette Review & Swatches

This was provided to me by a brand for review but all opinions expressed are my own

MAC Fabulousness is MAC’s Holiday 2012 Collection featuring three eyeshadow palettes. These very stylish palettes are utterly fresh and unique for the brand due to their vintage packaging.

I feel like MAC Holiday has become less and less memorable due to the packaging so it was a very nice surprise to see they revamped the entire design. The palettes have a plush pin cushion design with a plastic ribbon clasp to open them. It feels very sixties mod to me and as I mentioned before something you’d see Dita Von Tease or Lana Del Ray whipping out of their purses.

Let’s take a look!

If you’re one for displaying your makeup on your vanity you’ll be very pleased with MAC’s design this year for Holiday 2012. I’m really in love with the packaging….!

But most important what’s inside.

One rant…there is less product in here than last year at a higher cost…I can’t recall at the moment how much eyeshadow palettes had in 2009 or even 2010 (check back with me later and I’ll update) but last year palettes included six eyeshadows with a total size of 0.21 oz at $38. This year the palette contains five eyeshadows at 0.14 oz for $39.50.

Quite a difference in size…!

And if I’m correct I believe 2009 the shadow palettes were even bigger so sadly, like everything else in today’s society, you’re getting less for more.

That aside I’m very happy with the Neutral Eyes Palette even though I’m not a fan of the eyeshadow shades. I’m very hopeful this formula will be as consistent with the other two palettes in the collection as I do very much want to indulge in the Warm Eyes.

The palette includes:

  • Brun (black brown satin)
  • Blonde Mink (taupe frost)
  • Enviable (mint green with pearl)
  • Smut (off black with red shimmer)
  • Magical Mist (metallic taupe)

This was definitely a made for the taupe lovers palette. I don’t really like taupe myself so I find the colors boring and uneventful. However, the formula on ALL the shadows is up the MAC standards. Releases lately have been somewhat meh but this palette has a consistent formula with excellent pigmentation, ease of blending, and traditional MAC formulation that’s proof the brand still got it.

Now…

I just hope we’ll see the same greatness from the remaining two palettes in the release.

The MAC Fabulousness Collection is available today at MAC locations as well as online at maccosmetics.com

Those colors wouldn’t work for me but I do adore the cute packaging! DVT is one of my style idols!

Hi Muse! I hope you are having a good day! I am a taupe lover yet I really don’t find this to my taste. I hope you do review the warm palette as I was checking that one out and thought it looked best out of the three.

jen I really dislike taupe as well! I’ll be purchasing and reviewing the warm one for sure I hope it’s as good as this one as MAC god the formula perfect on this color selection thank god as I was worried!

TAUPE! I will proudly plant my flag in the land of taupe. I think loving/hating taupe depends on your coloring. Some people look great, some look like their eyes are dirty. My daily look is made with matte taupes with some occasional shimmer. The only thing that will keep me from a purchase is the price. I really feel like the increased the pallette prices in the collections but are giving is as much. I’m still surprised the Nordstrom pallette is $70. Little pricey for me.

yeah that’s me always look dirty with taupe hehehe ;-D true…70 bucks ouch!

Littlecreek – what’s your favorite taupe shades? I like many a varieties of taupe -except the above for some reason. I have light skin, blue eyes and light brown hair with both warm and coolness to it. I tend to wear both warms and cools for make-up depending on clothing etc. Always looking for more eyeshadows in the event i don’t already own! Thanks for sharing.

I love taupes, and it’s great to see the quality of the shadows is good; however, the packaging, although absolutely adorable, seems less than practical. It would seem the surface would get really grimy over time, and how would you clean it? So many complain about NARS packaging getting dirty, but at least you can wipe those down!

I bought this palette and the one that I got is terrible. The colors don’t swatch nearly as pigmented as the one that you have. The lightest 2 colors do not even show up on my NW20 skin at all and the matte browns are really patchy. What a fail. I am returning mine.

Woah I’m so late to this party but I’m dying for the Smokey Eye, pink palette. Those colors and that packaging. Perfect~ But they’re totally sold out. I hope I can grab it for a reasonable price somewhere online..
