MAC Primped Out Lip Look Bag Lavish Coral Review & Swatches

This was provided to me by a brand for review but all opinions expressed are my own

The MAC Primped Out Holiday 2012 Collection features an array of lip and eyeshadow bags. There are two limited edition Lip Look Bags in this collection which are $39.50 each and feature two full size lip products and one mini.

Mmm Holiday Makeup world of more for less you might find these bags a little lacking but that’s up for debate.

Check ’em!

The Lip Bags come with a small makeup bag, a mini lip pencil, a full size lipstick, and a full size lipgloss. Basic math for the gloss and lipsticks works out to $34.50 so for an extra $5 you can get the LE makeup bag and mini lip liner pencil…!

If you’re a little frugal you might just say frak it I’ll buy a lipstick and a lipgloss from MAC and skip the LE packaging, bag, and lip liner. Considering I don’t like the bag nor do I use lip liner this is the better option for me and it saves me a few bucks. It is debatable though and depends on what sort of value you are placing on this set.

I personally dislike the bag because I don’t like leopard print. This has a nifty fishnet design inside but the outside is a baby pink leopard print. I’m not particularly partial to it and felt like it isn’t exactly in fitting with the rest of the vintage-y packaging we’ve seen from other pieces in the collection. I might be a nitpicker who knows but that’s just how I feel. The bag has a plastic lame with fabric under it so it’s excellent for makeup as it wipes down easily. The inside is roomy enough for a few small lip products and perhaps a powder but won’t hold your entire makeup sink if you know what I mean, just the basics here darling.

Lavish Coral should have been a smashing success with me but the colors are too mod and nude which results in a zombie girl look for me. So sadly, these aren’t the types of corals I’d use. Again, possibly nitpicky, but I’d prefer a bag full of festive reds and sparkling lipglosses, this is, after all, a Holiday Collection yes?

You get:

  • MAC Cremesheen Glass in Kiss Me Softy
  • MAC Cremesheen Lipstick in Shy Girl
  • MAC Lip Pencil in Boldly Bare

I don’t like Cremesheen Lipstick personally. I find it drying with a patchy application and Shy Girl is the mecca of bad formulas. It felt dry on my lips, applies dry, and looks dry less I follow up with gloss. The color isn’t coral to me it’s a neutral light beige peach that’s very mod and nude. I don’t love cream finishes so def take this review with a grain of salt particularly if you enjoy Cremesheens or a cream lipstick finish.

As for Cremesheen Glass I’m not a big fan but have run into colors I simply adore. Sadly Kiss me Softly is not one of those shades. This is a soft nude peach which again, is a little too living dead girl for me. The Boldly Bare Pencil might just be the ticket you need to spruce up this rigor mortis gift set as it’s a darker dirty brown. You might want to line lips with it prior to gloss application to give them a bit more tint that will show through with Kiss Me Softly on top.

Overall, I didn’t really love anything about this set unfortunately. I blame it on the shades for the most part plus I’m not a huge Cremesheen fan. Fans of Cremesheen might love this as well as those who like nude lip looks and can rock them. As for me…mmm can’t do the nude lip look so well and def don’t love Cremesheen with such a milky, cream finish…not a good look for me! I also feel like these particularly shades emphasize finely lined lips or dry, chapped ones….! Not pretty!

What’s with these shades? None of those seem ‘coral’ to me.

How disappointing. I was originally eyeing both lip look bags, but now that I’ve seen this one, I’m a little worried about the pink set…

I don’t mind animal print, as long as it is *natural* in color. I, for one, have never seen a pink leopard, but maybe I missed something? As for the products themselves, I really like the colors, but I’m not one for stalking MAC counters and/or websites to get y hands on LE items. If I happen upon a MAC counter, and this is available, I’ll check it out, but I won’t be going out of my way.

True Muse-Chan. But it’s hard to top Russian Red imho! and I agreed about the packaging! Perhaps a play on the colors of the palettes? With a lace overlay and tufting with black metal rivets or something?

sis I so wish I could wear Russian Red but I look like a clown with it on 😀 oh that sounds lovely!!!!!!!! the leopard just wasn’t doing it for me at all!

I know you don’t love them, but the lip look you have in the photo is very pretty on you. It just looks natural and glossy!

I love Shy Girl but I’m white as a ghost 🙂 I agree these colors don’t scream holiday to me nor does the bag.
