Tarte It’s A Wonderful Life LipSurgence Collector’s Set Holiday 2012 Review & Swatches

This was provided to me by a brand for review but all opinions expressed are my own

Tarte LipSurgence Collector’s Set in It’s a Wonderful Life is a QVC Exclusive Set for Holiday 2012. No worries if you love this set and dislike shopping QVC as Tarte has a few renditions of it available at a variety of locations such as Sephora and Ulta.

This set features five full size Tarte Lip Surgence Natural Lip Tints in a variety of shades for $34. It’s quite a deal considering all of the tints are full size and should you buy one it would set you back $24. So for an extra $10 you can get four more tints!

Nice eh?

Shipping isn’t too bad on this at $4.47 cents and I actually like this set more than the one sold at Sephora I recently reviewed for you. Why? I like the colors a little more in this set.

Now there isn’t a ton of difference here actually.

Both the set available from Tarte and Sephora have the shades Escape, Sweet, and Elite. This set however, leaves out the matte shade Exposed (which I wasn’t fond of anyway) and Enchanted and replaces it with shades Buff and Exotic. I’d say It’s a Wonderful Life is a nice combination set of peaches, pinks, and berries.

Buff

Sweet

Exotic

Escape

Elite

You get four Lip Lusters in this set and one lip tint. The lip tint formula is a hydrating, balmy texture where as the Lusters have a shiny, glossy, shimmery finish. Both give lips a touch of tint with a nice sheen. Color builds easily on these for more pop and leave lips pleasantly moisturized through the wear with a comfortable feel. If you really like the Lip Luster formula you’ll be quite excited about this set as it brings more of the formula than any of the other sets Tarte is offering for the Holidays.

I always feel like most of the Lipsurgences give my lips a MLBB finish (my lips but better) with sheer to medium color pay off (when you build them up). The pencil itself is a swivel up design so no sharpener is needed.

Overall, even after factoring in shipping, this is a bargain! It’ll make an excellent gift for a makeup lover but if I’m honest I just love it for myself. As I mentioned above I actually like this set a lot more than the Statement Lip Collection due to the lack of mattes here and also the color variety. So far I believe that Tarte is offering three total sets of Lipsurgences for the Holiday season so if not this set, you’re bound to find one of the others to love!

Muse Approved for purchase.

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. I wish they had different shades for these so I could buy this set too! I’m still kicking myself for not purchasing their set last year 🙁

I picked up the lip set at Sephora and I’m really glad I did; I actually like Exposed and Enchanted. But I really like Buff and Exotic from this set, so…what’s a girl to do? (And let’s not talk about my Tarte blush collection which is now up to seven clay blushes and the three airblushes.)

    • the Muse

i know blue! every time they do a sale I feel the need to get MORE blush!

  • Lors

What is the eyeshadow and blush you’re wearing? I like how they look with these lip surgences… 🙂

    • the Muse

hi lors thanks! that’s the sleek contour palette I featured on my cheeks both the blush and highlighter from the palette. eyeshadow is one of the new elf long lasting lustrous shadows in gala 😀

Muse, is there another version available other than the qvc or the sephora/ulta set (statement set)? I am on the fence about the qvc set. I think this is one of best deals around….not sure if I want 3 dupes though. Wish qvc had 3 diff colors in that set and then no brainier! Btw, I’ll take your exposed! That’s my fave!

    • the Muse

hey jen! I think the 3rd set is called baby it’s bold outside or baby’s it’s cold outside. I don’t have that one sadly :-/ Agreed on the dupes…wish they included five different shades per set :-/ I have a giveaway for three random shades going on ;-D enter to win chica I think exposed is one of the shades I am giving away!

Baby it’s Bold Outside is the exact same thing are Statement Lips. I don’t get why they’re giving it different names when it’s the same items in there, it’s confusing D:

So, in regards to this “title” of sets discussion. I just looked at the back of both my lip surgence collector set (purch at Ulta) and the box says “Baby its bold outside” and just noticed on the back of my QVC kit that has the eyeshadows, liners and glosses (TSV) and the box says “baby its bold outside” too. Maybe thats there holiday slogan or something? Muse – do you still have your blush quad set? Just curious if that packaging said the same!v

Just thought I would share as thought interesting.

    • the Muse

interesting jen! I looked on the blush set as I kept the box and didn’t see anything about baby’s its bold outside, simply “limited edition collector’s set” which they all seeem to share in common….!

i bought both of these sets…one from sephora and one from qvc. i bought the qvc set thinking that i would love buff. it looks like such a beautiful color but then i put it on and it feels soo gritty…like i can feel all the glitter. do you feel that way? i love the color but can’t stand the texture. however i like the rest of the colors, which is why i didn’t mind buying both. gives me back ups. i also really dislike enchanted, it is not my color but i like exotic a little better.
