Essence Breaking Dawn Lipgloss Review & Swatches
Beauty budget brand, Essence, has created a Twilight Breaking Dawn 2 Collection to celebrate the release of the movie. This isn’t the first time Essence has embraced Twilight as they have had another collection inspired by the film.
I generally like Essence and although some of my fandom has cooled when it comes to Twilight I still like the overall idea of this collection. It’ll be a little tricky to locate as Ulta is the only US store I know of that sells Essence but keep an eye out for it in store.
I went to Ulta this weekend and they sadly, didn’t have the collection. I have my eye on the bright red blush that was released with the collection.
My other lemming? The Breaking Dawn Lipgloss which I was lucky enough to get a sample of!
The Essence Breaking Dawn Lipgloss comes in two shades one of which is a sparkling red. Considering the Holidays are right around the corner this is a fitting release for both the movie and the Holiday Season. The bright blood red shade has sparkling flecks of gold. The shade is called Renesmee Red (did I ever tell you how dumb I though Edward and Bella kid’s name is?).
The formula is a thinner consistency with a high glossy finish. It’s not tacky, sticky, or heavy. It has a very smooth glide across lips with a sponge applicator that applies product easily on lips. The gloss has a shorter wear time but remains quite comfortable through that wear. Once it fades I didn’t have issues with the gold glitter remaining on my lips. The gloss has fruity perfume-y taste that’s pleasant but not overpowering.
Although far from opaque the gloss does tint lips a nice shade of red much like the character’s in the movie. It is quite sparkly with chunky glitter but that doesn’t give it a disco-ball finish. The gold flecks does something very nice to the red so you have a nice tint of red with a golden sparkle.
At $2.49 it’s worth picking up not only if you’re a Twilight fan but also because it lends a nice tint of red to lips for a just bitten look.
Available now at Ulta.

It’s pretty on you
thank you miss!
I picked up the darker gloss and the gold lipstick on a whim. I was not impressed with the gloss personally. The fragrance and the flavor put me off. If you’re still looking for the blush I might just be able to help you track it down as I think my local drugstore still had some the last time I was in store.
hey lindz, thank you for the offer I might just take you up on that! I have a friend looking for me, if she doesn’t find it and I’ll be bothering you if you don’t mind ;-D!
No problem at all. I have become all too familiar with having to go to great lengths or asking for favors from friends and family back in the States & even Canada to hunt things down since moving to Germany. So I certainly don’t mind helping if I can.
I have yet to try anything from Essence but this looks like a great place to start. Looks great on you. Fruity sounds yummy.
aw thanks blee <3!
it is weird how german make up brands reach the us but us make brands dont reach german drugstores… xD
convinsed by your review and I don’t like lip gloss. So good review
convinced
Just wanted to chime in, if you live in the pacific northwest – you can find Essence in Fred Meyers:). I bought the darker purple gloss and I was kinda disappointed in the same way I was with Milani’s “Black Honey” gloss. Neither had the color payoff I washoping for…now I’n thinking I shoulda bought the red.It looks really nice on you!
thanks christy for the tip! and thank you for the compliment
<3!
I actually really like Essence’s lip glosses. When I got my first one, it was so pigmented and shiny that I went back for a few more. Not a Twilight fan though, so I think I’ll pass…also ditto on the kid’s name. Couldn’t they have just settled on Tyler or something?
What pisses me off about Renesmee is her middle name is Carlie, which is AN ACTUAL NAME.
i dont like this movie series at all…but i still wanna get some stuff from this collection! did u get anythin else from the collection muse?
reen I can’t find any of it sadly I looked…I do have a glitter eyeliner I’ll be reviewing shortly and a pigment that’s it though as I couldn’t find the collection in my location.
i tried essence lipsticks an blushes, they r good! nice affordable brand! would love to see more of ur reviews:) thanks for posting!
hi reen if you check under the archives I have a ton of essence reviews
Suits your skin beautifully! xx
aw thanks charlie!
I pick up the red blush (gorrrrrggg!!) and one of the polishes. Most of the display was wiped out. Didn’t see this gloss.
The Essence section at my Ulta is always woefully understocked and I’ve never seen them get in a special collection. I have been eyeing that blush, too! I *WILL* get my hands on some of this. I’m not a huge Twilight fan, but I think the collection is really nice.
Same here, never see LE Essence products at Ulta
wish they would sell them online!
Oh how I hate Twilight. THANKS FOR KILLING VAMPIRES, STEPHANIE MEYER. The collection piques my interest though but my Ulta has this teeny tiny set up for Essence. Maybe it’ll have a little set up in front of one of the drugstore brand aisles.
I could also probably get my hands on the blush for you, I just bought it myself and there were a few left…I also got the shimmer powder called bella’s secret, they had a few of the loose pigments and the gold lipstick left but that was it, i took the last shimmer powder. what i think is odd is that the blush is also called renesmee red, why would they name two products the same thing?
Renesmee IS the dumbest name ever. And you know some immature twihards have already named a real life kid that. And I used to hate my name….
I have seen Essence cosmetics at Dollar General….not this collection though…
Agree, stupid name for a kid. Nice idea behind the name, but it doesn’t come together all that nice. They probably could’ve jumbled the letters up differently.
