Hello Kitty Wild Thing Say Hello Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Hello Kitty Say Hello Eyeshadow Palette in Wild Thing is the latest palette Sephora has launched in the Hello Kitty Beauty Collection. Although a Holiday release the shades scream Fall to me.
I’ve had my downfalls with the Hello Kitty Say Hello Eyeshadow Palettes. Some are are ok, most are frosty, some have odd color pair ups…they do share one common trait, the very cute packaging. Sometimes cute packaging can get repetitive though and we really just want good makeup. Wait, what am I saying? Cute packaging is EVERYTHING!
With a brown leopard print and shiny bronze metallic bow this palette oozes cuteness but are the contents just as great?
The palette is shaped like Hello Kitty’s darling little face and features a two-tier design which houses a mirror and eyeshadows on one level and two more eyeshadows on the other. Yeah, odd, I know, that second tier looks like face powder or contouring powders right? But nope, they are eyeshadows according to the box and Sephora’s website.
I’ll totally let you in on a little secret…I went ahead and used some of those to set my concealer and highlight the bridge of my nose. There are no rules in makeup right? So if you want, I don’t see an issue with using the bigger/lighter shades of eyeshadow on your eyes and face. There are actually light enough to work as a face powder and/or highlighter should you like!
I think I’m every so confused about the performance and quality of Sephora’s Hello Kitty makeup sometimes. These shadows have fairly nice pigmentation with a buttery smooth formula but they come across very frosty. I have to really work to sheer down the frost element as frosty finishes are just not flattering on me. The first four shades of eyeshadow are the worst offenders with the bottom tier having a more silky, smoother finish and less frost but also less pigment. The easiest way to avoid the frost is to apply with a sponge tip applicator and blend out with a good blending brush. The formula is on par with Stila’s Eyeshadows so you have that buttery, creamy texture with a velvet-like finish that blends fairly easily. They do have a rather weak wear. You need to load up with primer and even than they fade away as the day progresses. It isn’t really an issue of creasing, just that the color begins to fade away and loses its intensity.
For once they got the colors all down right. I’ve run across some of these Say Hello Eyeshadow Palettes with really odd, washed out color selections. Wild Thing is a palette of shades that all just work well together. They create more of a sunset, Summer-y look with dark chocolate brown, bronze, golden peach, yellow and paler shades of nude and peach. All the shades just go together and I find that a rarity with this brand. Although not very Holiday-ish, this is a palette that will work excellent for upcoming Spring and Summer looks.
Overall, I was a little disappointed with the frost but….I liked the palette. The colors are very me and the formula, although you need to have patience with it, is quite good on a whole. At $36 it isn’t cheap particularly when there are so many massive Holiday palettes that offer you much more at around the same price point. I’d check it out if you’re in Sephora. Perhaps swatch it, play around with it a bit, you might fall in love with. This isn’t a huge rave from me but this is a hey, not bad, put it on the maybe to purchase list.
It’s available now at Sephora and Sephora.com
