Stila Positively Pink Cheek Palette Review & Swatches

Stila introduced their Positively Pink Set for Breast Cancer Awareness back in October. You might recall the whimsical design of the palette as Stila introduced their Love at First Blush Palette in a similiar style. If you already own Love at First Blush you can still go ahead and indulge in the Positively Pink Cheek Palette as well since the colors are different.

The set comes with a 0.28 oz blush palette as well as a mini Stila Lipglaze in Splendor. It’s $18 but I used a 20% Off promo code and got free shipping as well so I felt like it was a nice little deal.

Take a look!

This is a multicolored pressed powder blush with a pink ribbon design. The blush shade is a dominate rosy pink shade with soft pale pink accents added in from the pressed ribbons design. I actually dislike the ribbon shade because they take away from the overall blush color and give it a more subtle color pay off as well as a frostier finish. If you can avoid dipping into them (which is challenging) during application you’ll find that the lovely rosy pink gives cheeks a lovely pop of pink. However, that frosty, lighter shade of pink ends up washing the rose out and replacing it with a tad too much frost. Blah! I was able to brush around them to create my look below. I’m thinking after a few more uses perhaps the frost will dissipate some and my brush will end up picking up more of the rosy pink. Crossing my fingers!

The blush has a nice smooth, silky texture but for some reason it runs a bit drier I suppose because I barely pick color up when swiping a brush across it. I used a kabuki instead as this allowed me to swirl deeper which resulted in the brush picking up more color. Needless to say this isn’t the quality I’ve seen from the past Valentine’s Day Blushes Stila introduced.

I’m a big fan of Stila Lipglaze so I was happy to add Splendor to my collection. This is a sheer, shimmering pink. Lipglaze comes in a click style pen with a brush applicator for application. They have a thicker texture with a glossy finish and a wear of around four to five hours thanks to the tackier formula. I’m always impressed with the pigmentation on Lipglazes but Splendor does run a little sheerer so you won’t see a ton of pigment from it. I find it’s best suited when used over a lipstick or stain.

Overall, the set is quite cute but it has a few quirks that kinda sorta irritated me. To improve it I would have definitely avoided the lighter pink ribbons in the blush and included a rosier Lipglaze shade. It’s a nice set and I’m happy with the price I did pay but it’s not as great as some of the limited edition blushes Stila has produced for Valentine’s Day. Stila has released a new blusher palette the past two years and I hope to see a new one this year. I do hope they don’t simply revise the Positively Pink Cheek Palette though and re-release in some new format for Valentine’s Day 2013.

Do you need it?

Probably not but I imagine if you collected the other blushers this might be on your hit list!

It’s available now at Sephora and Sephora.com

I purchased this item.

Wow, that’s too bad that you had to work around the ribbons on the blush when making your look at the bottom of the post because you look BEAUTIFUL!! Really, it’s a gorgeous color of blush on you Muse 🙂

  • Tiffany Martin

Holy pink! Pink everything, shirt, headband, lips, cheeks! You’re starting to style up like I do! (; Can’t say that’s a bad thing, but I’m sorry you weren’t so thrilled with your buy. Does it feel better knowing you got a deal on it? Usually that makes ME feel better.

Now Muse, this was a perfect opportunity to post a link to the song “Pretty in Pink” on youtube! 😀

That’s such a gorgeous color! I don’t think blush looks good on me though, I’m more of a bronzer person, but it looks amazing on you muse! I might even give it a chance because the color is soo pretty (:

  • Cherise St. Claire

I love the pink blush it will look good on me or rather I’ll look good with it 🙂

I ended up digging out the larger of the ribbons with a tiny screwdriver because the color was so frosty! It crumbles a little too easily now, but the color is better.

PS – had a casualty yesterday – I dropped my TT Dollskin Cheek palette! RIP Parasol 🙁

omg missy! *takes a moment of silence* that’s awful news! I wish I had an extra to send your way (both of mine are used). *hugs* I’m very sorry! ha…I wouldn’t dare to be honest, it prob would end up falling apart, I kinda dipped and curved around them because the blush is gorgeous but those damn ribbons are a bish!

    YOU CAN FIX IT!!!!
take the end of butter knife and GENTLY smoosh it into fine powder.
    add rubbing alchol until damp
take a quarter and wrap it with a paper towel
press the papertowel into damp powder to smoosh it all back together
    air dry

I knew you’d understand the tragedy!! LOL! My husband was like, “meh” when I told him. He doesn’t get it.

And Ruth ~ you are AWESOME!! THANK YOU for the tip! I will totally try this 😀 Glad I didn’t throw it out!

The ribbons sound so annoying! They should put a slightly lighter colour without the shimmer as the ribbons.

  • Lindz

I think the blush looks particularly really nice on you! By the way, Ruth sounds like a makeup MacGuyver.
