Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra Light Skin Perfecting Makeup Review & Swatches

If someone asks me what my favorite foundation is Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra Light Skin Perfecting Makeup almost always comes to mind.

What’s not to like about a foundation that’s lightweight and provides natural coverage to skin making it look refined, fresh, and flawless? Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra Light Skin Perfecting Makeup is exactly what we crave from our foundation products.

Take a look!

Ahh the evolution and joy of water based foundations. This year, we’ve seen foundation evolve from creamy, dense, and thick to a thinner, lighter, hydrating formula. Products like Estee Lauder Invisible Fluid Makeup, Shiseido Perfect Refining Foundation, and Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra Light Skin Perfecting Makeup are proof positive that we don’t have to settle on heavy foundation products when we can have lightweight true to skin coverage.

When compared to other foundations of its type Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra Light is definitely sheerer. Coverage is more natural and fresher than you’d get from a truly pigmented foundation product. It’s the type of base that enhances your own skin type and makes it better. With a thin, runnier texture this water based foundation has a hydrating feel and a super easy to blend out formula that feels and looks like a second skin.

If you’re the type of person that prefers breathable coverage you’re sure to love it. I personally look for foundation and BB Creams that will take my already clear skin and ease signs of dullness. I want something that doesn’t offer a ton of heavy coverage. I want something that perfects but doesn’t look like I’m wearing makeup. I want flawless and natural. All of this is easily achieved with Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra Light. This is coverage that’s barely there yet perfecting. Coverage that’s lightweight and breathable. Coverage that takes your normally lackluster skin and creates an air of vitality and flawlessness.

Although sheer it still manages to ease dullness, create a more uniformed skin tone, and eases minor flawless such as redness easily. The formula is incredibly easy to apply with very little effort. It blends out to a beautiful finish and provides lasting coverage that doesn’t oxidize or fade too quickly (I can get at least five hours of wear with some minor fading in hour six).

Overall, Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra Light Skin Perfecting Makeup is something that should come home with you if you already have fairly good skin. It’s the type of foundation that will perfect that which doesn’t need a ton of coverage or concealing. It’s the type of product that acts like an MLBB (my lips but better) lipstick shade of sorts. It takes what you already have and enhances and beautifies it. It’s my skin but oh so much better.

Try it.

It’ll surprise you.

This review is a long time coming…I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it as I’m sure by now many of you have tried this!

P.S. Mewes was on Comic Book Men last Sunday. Just caught up with the eppy late last night when I got home. I die. I have such a big crush on him. I think he’s the best thing ever in Tod and the Book of Pure Evil.

Poll: Long or short hair?

I purchased this item.

He and Kevin Smith did an ‘ask me anything’ on reddit a few days ago. I’ve always thought he was so cute. XD

I really love the finish and coverage that this foundation provides, too bad my skin is so oily it almost always goes patchy after around 4-5 hours of wear, such a pity 🙁 I’m glad it works for you Muse!

  • Christine

I WANT this foundation…really wish Sephora sold it so that I could pick it up with my $15 off of $60 VIB card. The card is burning a hole in my wallet! Will definitely have to head to a counter to sample some shades now. And PS, Mewes with long hair. HAWT!

    • the Muse

i can’t decide…long hair RAWwwwrrrr short hair N000mmmmm! 😀 it’s all so overwhelming! *curls into the ball and rocks back and fourth* too much hawtness makes my brain explode ;D

have you tried the chanel vitalumiere moisture rich? i went into dillard’s to get the vitalumiere aqua but got the moisture rich instead. the sales associate said that it was a little heavier but a lot more moisturizing, and since i have very dry skin now that it’s getting cold…maybe i’ll get the aqua for the summer. do you use it year round? thanks for the review.

    • the Muse

i haven’t bertha. I typically use this year round but it is nicest in the Summer, lightweight, sheer coverage ;-D my pleasure!

  • Melissa

I love this! When I ran out of the dr brandt bb cream I switched to it. The bottle lasted me a long time too maybe because it’s not thick. Anyhow, I agree with your review. It’s a great addition to my fairly clear skin. It blends well with different brand concealers to cover up when I need an extra touch. I think I want something thicker for winter so I’m going to try the josie maran TM because it’s cheaper then the other Chanel ones. I will more than likely re-purchase the aqua though because I enjoy how easy it goes on. I can even skip primer with it!

    • the Muse

really love the josie maran tm, quite good stuff melissa ;-D ditto! no need for primer here either, have you tried EL’s fluid makeup? equally awesome, more color pay off!

  • Nat

I never really thought of Mewes as handsome, but that pic with the short hair – ROWR! 😀

    • the Muse

didn’t you see him in Zack and Miri Make a Porno? OMGZZZZZZZZZ ;-D short hair, nearly naked, tats, nom nom nom nom nom!

      • Nat

I guess his handsomeness was overshadowed by the yucky parts in the movie, lol. I’ve always liked his voice, though – rough and husky! 😀

        • the Muse

swoon yeah his voice is really what seals the deal. He has an incredible voice ;-D smoker’s voice I call it.

  • midori

I envy those who can find a color match with Chanel! I find they run too pink and they turn dark on me 🙁 I do love these sheer light-weight foundations though; the Estee Lauder is my favorite.

  • Mme Sophistiqué

I wanted to love this soo badly, but I found it oxidized really quickly to an especially unflattering orange tone. Too bad because I loved everything else

    • the Muse

ugh why the hell do I ALWAYS miss him! damn it! he kinda confirmed my worst fears about TandTBoPE *drops head in sorrow*

      • Nat

I is sorry….posted it because I thought it would make you happy, not sad! Oh noes! XD

        • the Muse

lol totes happy ;-D I’m so sad though that the show got axed…they had a petition going around I think to save it but damn I really wanted an S3 ;D

          • Nat

Yeah, I liked that show too….after reading his AMA I really feel like watching all the Clerks movies and the animated series again now, though! 😀

          • the Muse

he made a few appearances on CBM which was quite fun ;-D He always seems completely stoned ;-D lol! I could def go for a clerks marathon. where are you located? I’ll bring snacks haha!

Muse I beg you to try Ben Nye Neutral Set Powder, it goes on white and disappears, and 90 percent of makeup artist have it in their kit, it works on everyone!

I agree one of my favorite foundations. I’m fair and people tell me I have beautiful skin…credit goes to my Swedish grandmother who also had beautiful skin I suppose!

Anyways, this foundation is wonderful, fresh, light, cooling and water based if you love Dr Jart’s Waterfuse BB Cream you will love this as well, this has better coverage. The only reason I even tired this out was because it made Allure’s best of beauty list 2012, and so many bloggers had nothing but wonderful things to say about it.

As a gal with fair skin free of skin problems this stuff is fabulous. I’m always on the look out for foundations that are light but aren’t heavy and make me feel like a million bucks. Will definitely be re purchasing if I ever run out. Great for summer months too! Light and natural:)The Best! Worth it, you won’t regret this purchase! I know I didn’t. Glad I splurged it was totally worth it:)
