Clinique Chubby Stick Intense Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm Review & Swatches

This was provided to me by a brand for review but all opinions expressed are my own

Rejoice Clinique Chubby Stick Intense Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm have landed! Not a fond fan of the original Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm because they just weren’t pigmented enough for you?

No worries! Chubby Stick Intense is a newly formulated balm with a more intense color pay off. These nourishing lip balms give a pop of color with a formula that keeps lips soft, supple, and hydrated.

Take a peek!

I’ve been a fan and lover of Clinique Chubby Sticks since their original launch. They are such an easy way to get color in a balmy formula that keeps my lips soft and hydrated throughout the wear. I’m awful at reapplication of lipstick and gloss as the day progresses but I am one for chronically applying lip balm. So tinted pencils like this are a god sent. They give my lips the balm-like texture it craves and delivers a lovely pop of color along with it.

An Intense version was quite exciting…! Same great formula but with more pigment? I was so on that.

Clinique released eight new shades of this popular formula but now they have that extra bit of pigment you might be craving. I wouldn’t say they are completely opaque but they meet somewhere in the middle which leads to natural color on lips (depending on the shade you use). The swivel up pencil design allows you to easily tote them around for applying on the go.

I think those disappointed in the original formula’s color pay off will be grateful that Clinique has duped up on some of the original colors launched in this release. The only difference being the Intense version is truer to tube upon application for a great color pay off!

Swatched in their order of appearance below!

I’d like to say that the texture changed slightly here. These aren’t as balmy as the originals. They have a smooth, creamy feel sans shimmer, sparkle, or glitter of any kind. They are heavier on lips due to the extra color but not so much that they are uncomfortable to wear. Color is indeed intense. Certain shades are more opaque than others but overall, all eight colors I tried are very true to tube. What you see in the pencil is what you get on your lips. They are indeed quite pigmented and can be built up for even greater intensity should you desire. They don’t have a slick or shiny feel or finish but lean towards more of a lighter textured balm not as balmy as the original version as I mentioned above though. They make my lips feel quite soft during the and after the wear. Wear time varies shade to shade but for the most part they’ll get you through a four hour period before fading but even after fading some shades will leave a lovely stain behind. Color pay off is most comparable to Revlon’s Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain.

Overall, these are a win for me. I really liked them. Clinique did an excellent job with the reformulation. Honestly if you’re trying to decide if you want the originals or these I’d say go with both. The originals are great for natural color where as the Intense version are excellent for daily looks or evenings out as it beefs up color for a lovely lipstick-like look! The formula wears comfortably and quite long, it applies easily, and it keeps lips soft and hydrated plus hey, you get great color too!

Roll over the image to see the color of the shade on my lips, it’ll pop right in the title!

What more could a girl (or guy) want?

LOVE these.

Muse Approved for purchase.

P.S. You must purchase Curviest Caramel if you have fair or medium fair skin! It’s stunning!

I got Roomiest Rose but returned it the next day because it wasn’t moisturizing enough *sad sigh*. Maybe I will try it again in the future, but the one I got was just too “lipsticky” for me 😡

    • the Muse

they are a lighter balm texture mmm…I feel like they keep my lips nice and soft, wouldn’t say they are extremely moisturizing but they do keep them soft ;-D

  • OrangeLipstickBlog

OMG, my heart is just bursting. I’m like, unnaturally excited about these things. I need them ALL.

  • breyerchic04

    Looking good!

Wasn’t clinique going to release a chubby eye pencil? Or am I dreaming again

  • bertha

I’m still a little new to your page, but do you like these clinique chubby sticks better than the tarte lipsurgences?

    • the Muse

both are equally great formulas bertha, depends what you are looking. tarte’s are sheerer compared to these, they also have a very pleasant minty taste with a variety of finishes Hope this helps?

    • the Muse

just may have or actually did? *looks at the ceiling and whistles* it’s ok if you’re in denial! 😀

      • Laci

Haha oh I did. I got the first 3 in from Nordstrom then immediately got 3 more from Clinique and the last 2 using my Sephora VIB card.

Caramel and Berry are my favorites. 😀

        • the Muse

caramel is amazingggggggggggggggg ;-D I love the shade very MLBB ;-D ha GREAT hauling! *proud of you*

  • Sarah

Oh I had hoped they would be a new formula. Sigh, I like the original but they give me an allergic reaction and my lips aren’t even that sensitive.

  • Ivy

Still a revlon girl all the way! The exact same product for a fraction of the price, but on top of that, STAINS as well? Unless you’re dying over a specific color I don’t see why anyone should opt for this over revlon! Btw lovely post Muse, you’re one of my favorites <3

  • Lauren

Pretty shades, but the names are absolutely terrible! Broadest Berry, Heftiest Hibiscus, Roomiest Rose? Yikes!

  • Tennyoceres

But, but I have a crayon box worth of Revlon Balm Stain to still go through. Agh Clinique why do you release more pretties when I can barely get through my current makeup backlog? *Add to growing Christmas wishlist*

  • Robin

Sarah, I understand; I’m allergic to MAC lip products. Love O shade.

The orange looks better than I thought it would, but I want Caramel and Grape!!

    P.S.

I broke down and got Lancome’s Ruby Affair! I’m so going on a no makeup diet beginning in Jan. Until then, I may be binging on these chubby sticks! LOL 😀

  • Lulle

I LOVE the original Chubby Sticks and I was so excited when I heard about this Intense version!
They look amazing, I’ll need at least Curviest Caramel and Chunkiest Chili.

  • Tinkibell

I’ve had my eye on Curviest Caramel as I am VERY fair with pink undertones. LOVE how it looks! Thanks so much for the review and swatches! Can’t wait to pick it up now!

  • cat

Eep! I really want to get these now. Though I feel a bit silly just getting more pigmented versions of colors I already like.

  • Susan

Bought the Rose and Berry tonight. can’t wait to try them out! I love that there is a bit more color, the others were truly a balm with little color. As far was how these compare to the Tarte ones, I find the Tarte have a lot more shimmer. I also find the mint irritating at times, especially when my lips are painfully chapped.

  • Tina

Sigh..the colors are so beautiful but sadly they aren’t as moisturizing for me so I had to return them.

  • LY

They all look good on u! Do u think Revlon’s version moisturizing enough for u? Btw, what blusher did u use there? Very pretty!

    • the Muse

these and revlon are about the same moisture ly. thanks very much 🙂 It’s benefit fine one one!

  • Joan

I LOVE these so much! Wasn’t happy with the original because they weren’t pigmented enough. They were just too sheer for me, but these have great color payoff and my lips don’t feel dry after wear. Bought four of these when they came out….Roomiest Rose, Plushest Punch, Mightiest Maraschino and Heftiest Hibiscus. Bright colors are best on me. Went back to buy Broadest Berry, but the shade is not a favorite. Was so happy to see that these were coming out and wasn’t disappointed. They look great on you, Muse!

    • the Muse

aw thanks joan! so so happy you adored them as well! I really liked them ;-D

  • K.B.

They’re all so gorgeous on you, but I think I’ll only be picking up Curviest Caramel. I was expecting something slightly less…raspberry-colored for Roomiest Rose.

  • Danielle

Curviest Caramel on you is just a few shades lighter than my natural lip color.XD Still soooo pretty… Might get one. Maybe. I have like 4 lipsticks and 3 lip creams (I love those little NYX creams!).

  • Cindy

These look amazing! I might have to take a break from my Revlon Just Bitten balms and try these out.

  • Karen M

I will be picking a few of these up this weekend. Okay probably 4 or 5. 🙂

  • KimberlyAnne

I LOVE these!!! I already bought Plushest Punch and Grandest Grape & will probably have to get a few more. They wear so well on me, too.

  • Emilee

I had roomiest rose in my sephora shopping cart but after your swatches I think I need to switch to broadest berry and curviest caramel! (i already own chunkiest chili… I have an addiction to this chubby sticks!)

  • Tanz

I just bought Curviest Caramel after your suggestion and I LOVE it! I’ve been searching for the perfect nude color for probably years and finally found it. Thank you!!

    • the Muse

fantastic tanz! so so so happy to hear it. It’s amazing right? you’re most welcome glad you LOVE :D!

  • Rachel

Is Curviest Caramel different/better than Honey in Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains?

I’ve been deciding between the two and I don’t know which one to buy.

    Thanks for your help Muse!

  • lisa

just picked up the hibiscus – probably will need to try the chili and berry colors too.

  • Tiphanie

hey girl! New to your site. What are the two colour names you are wearing in the last 2 pics? Have an iPad 4 and could not see the colour names! thanks!! 🙂

    • the Muse

hi tiphaine! welcome 😀 glad you found Musings! Just scroll over the image and a little text will come up telling you the color 🙂

  • Ruby

Love curviest caramel. Need that in my life. Now I just have to justify spending the money, sigh.

    • the Muse

aw my pleasure! Sorry it didn’t work for you, it def doesn’t work on tablets :-/ but typically if you’re on your pc and browsing you can scroll over the product and the color will display for ya!

  • Pelagius

Hi Muse! Thanks so much for these. I have a great fear of oranges, rusts, and browns. My skin is neutral-cool and I can only wear warm colors on my eyes, not my cheeks or lips. So I was on the fence about Curviest Caramel for fear of orange. Thanks for the swatches, the great reviews, and for being such a nice sweet person and replying to everybody! I think I must try CC now!

    • the Muse

AWWWWWWWWWWWWW thanks pelaguis! sorry delayed reply but your comment made my day ;-D I sure hope you like CC! I think it is a fab color 😀 Thank you for visiting! and for such an incredible comment 😀

  • Artsy smart

Do you have a dupe for heftiest hibiscus cuz their a little pricey for lipstick
