L’Oreal True Match Super Blendable Crayon Concealer Review & Swatches

L’Oreal True Match Super Blendable Crayon Concealer is a new range of chubby concealers pencil that will be hitting drugstores shortly. I located and purchased mine at Harmons.

I purchased two of the six shades they had available. I realize there was some ranting about the shade selection but I imagine displays will vary from drugstore to drugstore so there might be more than six shades available. I don’t believe they are limited edition and they will likely be added to the permanent collection at some point. This leads me to believe more shades are on the way so don’t panic if you don’t find a suitable match.

Let’s take a look!

L’Oreal True Match Super Blendable Crayon Concealer are 0.1 oz in size so they don’t contain a ton of product. Each is a jumbo size pencil with a twist up design so no sharpening is required. They come with a rather precise point at first but I imagine it’ll wear down with use. This isn’t a big issue for me though as I don’t require my concealer to have a point.

I was hoping these would work under eyes but knew they probably would be best suited for cover up issues in and around your face. Under my eyes I felt the formula was a little dry. The pencil has a creamy texture but blending out it feels a tad on the dry side which results in creasing into finer lines.

The pencil is very handy for swiping under eyes or across specific locations on your face. The tip has an easy, smooth glide and blends out decently well on hydrated skin but not as nicely under eyes. Coverage is sheerer with a semi-matte finish. They build well enough but no matter how much I apply I noticed they sheered out to a barely there finish. This isn’t great if you have major issues to conceal but perhaps for minor problem areas it might work out.

N1-2-3 and W4-5

Overall, I didn’t find anything particularly wonderful to love about the L’Oreal True Match Super Blendable Crayon Concealer in all honesty. They might have just missed the mark here as a hydrating formula and better pigmentation would probably gain them a rave from me. Better hydration would make for easier glide under eyes and better coverage would would hide my dark circles, fine lines, etc…..used as a spot concealer they might do the trick but if you have major issues that need covering you’ll want to go with something that has medium to heavy coverage as this is a tad too sheer to conceal problems.

Sorry L’Oreal. Great idea but the formula was lacking.

I’d love to hear your thoughts if they worked for you! Or if they didn’t!

I purchased this item.

I haven’t tried these yet but from your description they sound like they’d be better suited to highlighting and contouring than actual concealing work, especially if they sheer out quite a bit.

I think I’ll pick up the lightest one when it’s available here in the UK and try it as a shimmerless cream highlighter.

mm could work as contouring…i dunno, formula is just weak to me…they seem creamier in some ways, dry in others, pigmentation is weak, they blend out ok but you have to be sure you’re working on nicely hydrated skin otherwise they blend dry…just an odd product for me. I’m half thinking wow these are ok and the other half thinking wow these are rubbish ;-D that’s a good idea or as a lid primer.

Have you tried the UD 24/7 concealer pencils? I’m wondering how these match up those – I haven’t tried either, but have been wanting to try the 24/7 lately.

    • the Muse

i have, reviewed the older ones a while ago but not the newer. they are far creamier and way better pigment so no real comparison. you might as well splurge the extra $$ on UD’s version as the L’oreal one doesn’t quite cut it. Buy from Sephora, that way if you dislike the formula you can easily return!

Wheeeeew! I was literally at the drugstore 15 minutes ago debating on picking one of these up and I thought to myself “No, wait for Muse’s review”. I did find the Color Whisper lippies thought! 😀

    • the Muse

YAY you scored? thoughts?! share ;-D wanna hear what you think of Color Whisper. Sadly, I really didn’t feel like these were any good 🙁 really flattered you waited for my review 😀

      • Cynthia Ramirez

Of course I waited for your review! I always do, you’ve saved me much time and money, I trust your word! And as for the Color Whisper I really really like them. I love my Revlon Lip butters, but after wearing the Color Whisper I feel like the Lip Butters are heavy. I even did a side by side comparison on my lips and overall liked the color Whisper lippies better! Hell must have frozen over for me to say I like something better then my Lip Butters.

        • the Muse

aw shucks thanks ;-D I like ’em too! I agree, whispers are way lighter and virtually weightless ;-D

Ever since I started using liquid concealer, I don’t want anything else anymore!

I’m not really impressed by the look of these, unfortunately. I just think that for the price, there’s better concealers out there. I might pick one up to use as a cream highlighter or something! xoxo

  • Cristina

Have you tried the original True Match concealer? I really like it but I feel like I go through a tube pretty quickly…

  • Kathleen

Want! I have some discoloration near my upper lip–liquids and sticks are too unwieldy. I’ve been nursing a pencil concealer from Jane, so you know that’s ancient! I’m sure these will work just fine for me.

    • Sarah

I use the True Match Crayon Concealer near my mouth as well and it is perfect for that.

WOW!! I am so sad to hear that no one likes these concealer pencils. I had walked into my local Rite-Aid store and saw them this past week. They actually looked appealing to me and I picked up the W4-5 color. I am one who is never happy with concealer and have tried everything!! I tried MAC, Clinique, Estee Lauder, Bobbie Brown, Milani, Revlon, Tarte, Urban Decay, Benefit, Loreal…you name it, I’ve tried it. I finally liked the Smashbox concealer and settled with that as the color blended in beautifully with my skintone. I go through concealer pretty quickly and Smashbox is not cheap. I tried the Loreal pencil concealer and absolutely loved it!! I don’t really need to conceal anything on my skin as it is already pretty clear, but I am cursed with these horrible, horrible dark circles under my eyes. This concealer covered them with great coverage and stayed on pretty much all day. It blended in with my skintone a little better than the SmashBox. I didn’t find it drying under my eyes either, which I was very surprised to hear about. It glided on without pulling my skin. I found this to be true whether I had eye cream on or not. All in all, I’m planning on stocking up on these pencils and plan to carry one in my make-up bag for work. I think I finally found a winner.

I actually love this! I mainly use it under my eyes and for contouring it felt creamy to me.

  • Lucy

you should try the liquid version. I am in LOVE with the liquid version. Its smooth, creamy and blendabel, love em!

  • Samantha

I’ve found this works better as something to cover redness and that end of the spectrum then it is actually covering deep shadows under the eyes. It works best if you make a U shape around the shadow then blending with your inter then using a brush, it also doesn’t cake if you need to apply a second or third layer. I find it makes me go from “I’m an insomniac high schooler who stays up and creeps on social networking sites” to “I’ve had maybe a few all nighters studying and doing homework” which works for me plus i can just toss it in my bag if need be.
