Maybelline Clean Express! Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover Review

This was provided to me by a brand for review but all opinions expressed are my own

As you know Maybelline is introducing a new Clean Express! Makeup Remover Collection for Spring 2013. Maybelline Clean Express! Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover is one of those new products.

I typically use Sephora’s Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover and I like it, a lot, but I’m always looking for the next best thing.

Perhaps Maybelline’s new Clean Express! Collection will turn into my new staple.

Maybelline Clean Express! Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover is $5.99 for a 4 oz bottle. Already the price is working in my favor considering I’m all frugal-like when it comes to dishing out for eye makeup remover. Who knows where that stems from but as much as I love Lancome Bi-Facil, the idea of spending $27 on it for 4.2 oz makes me sob for my mummy!

I’ll be honest and say that even Sephora’s new $10 price tag for their 4.2 oz bottle makes me wince.

But $6 bucks, I can handle that.

Maybelline Clean Express! Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover is a pink bi-phase remover. You can apply on a cotton pad, press to your eye, and gently swipe away makeup. It has a slightly oil feel but nothing too greasy, it merely leaves the skin around your eyes nicely hydrated. I’ve used it all week without a hiccup. The formula is gentle, didn’t irritate my eyes, or leave me with cloudy vision.

The formula seems to work great with a variety of eyeshadow, mascara, and eyeliner formulas. It swiped away waterproof mascara easily and heavier eyeshadow and liner. I had one minor issue when I used three different mascaras in one day, don’t ask, I was trying to get some really dramatic lashes going on. In this case, I had minor left over mascara which was removed easily after I washed with an cleansing oil. Aside from that it performed well removing eyeshadow, waterproof mascara, and eyeliner without a hiccup. It removes it all easily in one to two swipes.

Excellent formula.

If you enjoy bi-phase removers you’ll find that this one is an excellent budget pick for removing makeup. I liked it a lot and can see myself repurchasing it in the future.

Muse Approved.

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Ooo..Thanks for the review Muse! Sounds like this one is a winner! I love the bi-phase makeup removers. I’ve used clinique’s take the day off for years (I buy it when they have a GWP going on – otherwise I couldn’t justify the price)but when/if I run out between times I will scoop this one up!

Take care of that nasty icky cold Hun! **sends you virtual hot tea with honey and some buttered toast**

aw thanks kim! sniff I could use it. def try it, good stuff, nice budget price!

This looks like something I would def check into. I really like Clinique’s Take the Day Off, but that also is $18, and I sure could get into $6 range happily!. Thanks for the review!

Muse, do u think this one work better than Biore one? I love Biore….I just finish a bottle of it, and brought the one from Neutrogena…but I am so regard of not buying the Biore 🙁

  • Kiss & Make-up

This is about half the price of the make-up remover I’m currently using. The bottle’s almost empty though, so maybe I’ll pick this one up instead next time!

Do you like it better than the “Neutrogena – Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover”? It’s the one in blue bottle. It’s my go-to makeup remover, but I’m always looking to try something new 🙂

I’ve been DIYing my makeup remover because of the exorbitant costs and not finding anything cheap that works better than my homebrew, definitely going to give this a shot. Gah! I love your blog so much! Thank you for the review! <3

Once you go evoo you never go back. Takes everything off, is cheap and easily available, non-toxic, no chemicals, and it’s good for your skin.

I liked the old formula really well if this one is an improvement I’ll have to try it

    This looks awesome ^_^

I have had such a difficult time finding a good waterproof eye makeup remover, and this is truly affordable! Thank you, Muse!!!!!!!

I have Lumene waterproof makeup remover, and I can’t even remember where I got it. It’s also a bit on the greasy side, so my loyalty can easily swing. I was going to pick up the Sonia Kashuk one when this runs out, but I think I’ll try Maybelline first!

    • Tammie

If you’re anything like me you got it at CVS 😉

It’s good but like you said it’s a teeny bit greasy and I get some film in my eye…I got a second Lumene one when I had a REALLY good coupon ($5 off Lumene skin care, this counted) but what the hey, if this saves me from getting filmy eyes I’m in…

  • BLee

My have to give this a try. My Milani is not in store here and not on the site either. Thanks 🙂

  • Vanilla

Thanks! I used to use the Lancome one, and later switched to Clinique’s take the day off which was cheaper. And then I switched to the Sephora one cuz that was even cheaper… and now, I may have to switch to this one!

the second ingredient listed is butylene glycol… i’ll pass. burns the heck out of my eyes anytime i’ve used a makeup remover that has it high on the ingredients list. sticking to my tried and true neutrogena (which, incidentally, is very, VERY similar to the discontinued clean & clear one – all the same ingredients, but a few of the middle ones are in different orders)
