Philosophy Take A Deep Breath Oil-Free Energizing Oxygen Gel Cream Moisturizer Review

Philosophy Take A Deep Breath Oil-Free Energizing Oxygen Gel Cream Moisturizer was something I purchased on the original launch a few months ago. I wanted something light yet moisturizing enough to use as a daily face cream. I typically use Lush Gorgeous but I feel like its gotten a tad pricey to indulge. I decided that I wanted to keep things around $40-$50 for a daily moisturizer. I honestly don’t mind splurging big for PM moisturizers but AM I wanted to go a tad cheaper.

Philosophy Take A Deep Breath was the perfect price range at $34.

Now did I like it was the question?

I love it.

This is gel moisturizer with a fresh scent that promises to revitalize skin. The cream supposedly diffuses energizing oxygen to detoxify skin and support cell respiration. Basically, due to environmental factors, your skin might be a dull, this promises to correct that issue.

Any oxygen factors and benefits might be lost in translation though due to the packaging. It is housed in a pot which means open air gets to it each time you open and bacteria as well if you’re using your fingers to apply. This definitely deducts points from the formula on a whole.

If you can get past all this, it’s actually an incredible moisturizer. I don’t really think it’s oxygen that eases dullness here. It is however, heavy duty moisture that the product provides that will ease dullness and restore youthfulness and glow to skin. My skin gets dull due to dryness and with the amount of moisture this provides it does seem like a certain vitality is restored to my skin.

Although oil-fee the cream is quite heavy. It’s a gel moisturizer that absorbs quickly into skin leaving behind extreme moisture. I think it might be a little too much for oily skin so a little might be in order when applying to avoid it going shiny on such a skin type. I’m pretty amazed that a gel moisturizer like this is so rich. The wonderful factor of the product is it seems to provide moisture throughout my day, keeping flakes and dryness at bay while keeping my skin super smooth and soft. Dare I say it might even work well as a nightly moisturizer as well due to the richness of the moisturizer.

As I mentioned above although oil-free it is a bit heavy and produces some shininess on my face in warmer weather. Unfortunately, although a gel formula, it might prove to much for Summer use unless I really cut down on the amount I apply. However, as a winter staple it’ll prove perfect.

I was quite happy with Take a Deep Breath and I would buy it again. The price is right and the moisture it provides to my dry skin is perfect. I’d like it even more if it was in a tube but hey, can’t have it all eh? If you have dry skin I’d check it out for the colder winters. It’s lightweight enough to wear comfortably under makeup but rich enough to provide all day hydration on a cold day to keep skin soft and smooth.

Muse Approved.

Do try it, I think you’ll like it as much as I did.

It’s available now at Philosophy.com

I purchased this item.

I was feeling excited about this but I’m shiny-central as it is so I think I’ll pass!

I think it’s that theory of jars looking nicer than pumps or tubes. Personally, I’ll take the packaging that protects my product and, by extension, my skin.

I totally agree with you about being a “thick” gel. Which is perfect for me right now because I’m so dry I look related to the cactus out my window. I bought over the summer and thanks to your review just pulled it out. I’m glad you brought it up because I need it now not in august lol (when I bought it).

Between the look of it and your description, I wonder if it’s anything like Biotherm Aquasource moisturizers…. have you tried those? The green one?
