Rimmel Scandal Eyes Show Off Mascara Review

Rimmel Scandal Eyes Show Off Mascara ($5.99) recently launched in the US. I located mine at Harmons but it should be making the rounds at other drugstores for Spring 2013.

This is a fiber formula mascara that lengthens, lifts, and volumizes.

Let’s take a look!

Rimmel Scandal Eyes Show Off Mascara has an interesting applicator that features a standard straight line plastic applicator with tiny spikes and a round ball bristle. The flat side of the brush builds volume where as the ball lifts lashes up and out.

Although the brush looks clumsy it actually applies easily without poking into your eye. There isn’t any clumping, mess, or fuss during application even though the applicator is bigger and the ball seems like it might prove stressful so near your eye. The flat edge of the brush captures lashes at the outer corner of the eye where as the bristled ball captures ones towards the inner eye. Brushing it through a few times didn’t result in any clumps and I saw some very nice length as well as a little volume.

The result is more of a fluttery lash look than anything else. There isn’t a ton of drama here but it does produce doll-like lashes that are longer, curled, and slightly fuller. The formula, although marketed as a fiber mascara, is a gel-like consistency that coat lashes with a lightweight finish which enables curl to last a good deal longer without weighting lashes down. I didn’t really notice the fibers in the least. This is a plus considering fiber mascaras tend to make me feel like I have something in my eye.

It doesn’t say it’s waterproof on the packaging but I didn’t have any issues with flakes, smudges, or general raccoon eyes and it was easy to remove with my regular eye makeup remover.

If you like a fluttery lash look Rimmel Scandal Eyes Shadow Off Mascara should serve you well. If you’re looking for a fuller lash look with a ton of length you might wish to pair it up with another mascara for better results. I failed to see dramatically longer lashes from this formula nor did I feel like it made my lashes look super full. I liked it a lot and think it’ll make an excellent companion mascara but on its own I’m not terribly impressed.

May have to give it a try next time I’m in the market for “base” mascara. It seemed to do a great job of stretching and separating. I started combining a couple of years ago and never looked back, the only way I get what I want.. long fluttery yet thick lashes. Would you consider it a wet or dry formula?

I think it looks good on you!! It gave you nice length and thats about it!! 🙁 atleast it didn’t clump!!

The brush looks a lot like the They’re Real! Mascara brush! I was sorta hoping this was going to be a cheap dupe, but alas, it isn’t. Thanks for the review!

There are a lot of really good mascaras on the market.. but it really depends on your individual lashes and eye shape/size and what you are looking to achieve. Mascara is one of those things that just is not a “one size fits all”, you have to give it a try and see if it works for you. If you live in the US buy from a store with a good return policy and just start trying them out.

I bought it but returned. The mascara itself is quite nice, lengthens and separates.. performs very well with no flaking or smearing. I does layer well, and looks fantastic with a volume formula on top. I just couldn’t deal with the brush. The spikes on the end are very long, and with my small eyes I kept jabbing myself. I think someone with larger eyes and/or longer lashes would enjoy it. It’s almost like having a lash comb built in, especially if you hold it vertically.

Which mascara would you recommend for me-I have thin, sparse eyelashes and I would like a drugstore mascara that will thicken and lengthen without clumping and without the mascara being too dry! Thanks in advance!

My favorite “all in one” mascara is the original Loreal Million Lashes, especially if you like them separated and no clumps. I can get better lashes if I layer two mascaras, but it does the best job for both length and volume in the shortest amount of time for any single drugstore mascara I’ve tried.
