Burt’s Bees 100% Natural Lipgloss Review & Swatches

Recently I reviewed and loved all over the new Burts Bees Lip Shine. I eagerly picked up two of the new Burt’s Bees 100% Natural Lipgloss due to the success I had with the Lip Shine formula.

These are available in 12 shades and promise a soft, shiny lipgloss experience with a natural formula.

Let’s take a look!

I’d love to tell you that Burt’s Bees 100% Natural Lipgloss was as great an experience as the Lip Shine one but sadly, that wasn’t the case.

I picked up two shades at my local CVS. Eagerly got them home, opened, and applied. I typically toss things in my “to be reviewed” pile so you can see I was quite eager to try them out that I raced home and dove right in. I just really liked the Lip Shine and ws expecting a great experience with these. They also looked damn pigmented!

But…

These have a drier formula.

Pigment is here and I’d say you’re looking at a full color gloss so what you see in the tube will translate to lips. Unfortunately I expected more shine, more glossiness, and less of the thinner almost waxy texture that I got. They formula kinda hugs lips and does offer moisture but applies rather patchy and dryish leaving a waxy film across lips that slides and migrates around.

Evening Glow and Summer Twilight

Sadness!

You can improvise and apply clear gloss on top but really, you shouldn’t have too go to that extra step to get the gloss to look right. It’s a real shame because the colors in the tube look amazing but the formula isn’t exactly what I had hopes for!

Evening Glow on Lips

Oh well!

Can’t have it all!

If you’re curious they are available now at drugstores.

Tried already?

Do share your review!

I purchased this item.

Lame! Summer Twilight looks so beautiful too. Usually I’d take a chance and try it anyway but considering the Lip Shines were a fail for me I can’t imagine how these would ruin my lips lol.

I loved the lipe shines go figure lol! ;-D maybe you’ll be reversed and really love these where as I don’t hahaha so maybe you need to try them!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Kris

Did you find that they had a bad odor? I swatched one on my hand at the local Ulta, and the smell was so bad, I couldn’t stand it and washed it off right away. But…it was a sample….open to the public….maybe it was a bad batch? I dunno, but it turned me off.

Omg the same thing happened to me! I loved the lip shine and have been wearing them every single day but these glosses felt heavy and waxy and even a bit drying. I swear you read my mind with this review!

    • the Muse

i thought I was nuts! Happy someone else felt the same! I loved the lipshine too ha! ;-D but these just didn’t cut it. A little clear gloss helps it along but really we shouldn’t have to add to the formula for it to wear correctly!

I picked one of these up in a pink color but don’t remember the shade name. Tried it once but it was over a revlon lipstain. I was torn between the gloss and a similar hue in thelipshine. Now I am bummed I didn’t get the lip shine instead! I am weird though and may actually like this stuff as I like the new cover girl lip balm sticks and everyone else seems pretty meh on them.

YOU never know jen! veronica was just saying she liked, different strokes for different folks ;D

Oh, that’s a shame you had a bad experience with them because they actually work very well on me! The formula is a bit waxy, but I’m fine with that because the trade off is that it’s one of the few red/vampy glosses I own that doesn’t require a lip liner to keep it from feathering. Otherwise, I didn’t have any problems with them. (I can’t really speak for how drying they are because the unfortunate reality is that all lip products dehydrate me somewhat, so I always wear my lip color prepared with balm underneath!)

    • the Muse

I’m happy to hear they worked for you veronica sadly no go for me 🙁

I should add that I do agree they were a little troublesome applying from the tube – the applicator just doesn’t grab enough all at once! I still like the product, but I do hope the company listens and reformulates them to be more universally wearable!

I bought one of the glosses but just wasn’t impressed with it at all. I couldn’t really see it on my lips, it felt uncomfortable–dry, like you said. Not for me.

I am a big fan of Burt’s Bees, and I love love love their lip shine. I owned Blush and Flutter from the latest release, and also Zesty Red from the former collection. They are absolutely adorable! Very moisturize with a hint of color. However, I am totally disappointed with their new line of lip gloss. I had the Sunny Day shade. The texture is super dry and thick. It is hard to scoop the gloss out from the tube. Application is a pain. When I put the applicator back, there is a “ring” of lip gloss sticking on the edge of the lid. What a mess… Pigmentation is poor. After struggling for a while, I returned it to the store. This lip gloss is priced at $8.99 a piece. Money is not a big deal, but Burt’s Bees need to redo the formulation of this one to win the love of their customer. I decided to return this product hoping to let Burt’s Bees know this one doesn’t pass the test.

beauty cat I’m returning the two I purchased as well, near 20 bucks for two glosses that apply crummy=NO way!

  • Saiba

I felt the doe foot applicator to be too hard which doesn’t help the application also. But I’m not really used to lip glosses and such so I may be thinking too hard.

I’m with you on the lip shines! I loved those! 🙁 But gosh it’s so sad, because I love the color of the two that I bought and think it looks really good on me. But it applies patchy like you said and I have to work at it too much for my liking. Oh well, win some lose some :/

    • the Muse

same here saiba, loved these two shades but hated the application and finish 🙁 le sigh!

  • Joan

I saw these at the counter in Walgreen’s when I was checking out and picked up two shades. I don’t consider these a lipgloss at all. They give nice color, but go on dry. I keep dipping the wand into the tube thinking I’ll pick up more product. I was definitely disappointed in these.

  • OrangeLipstickBlog

Aww, sad day! I almost picked up a few of these at CVS because I *thought* these were the ones you had reviewed well. I second guessed myself and didn’t grab any so I’m glad I skipped ’em!

  • Tennyoceres

I bought one tube hoping the color would translate on my lips. Sadly it didn’t. Super patchy applications and no color. I agree with the waxy feel, but the whole point of Burt’s Bees is beeswax =p Rather than tossing the tube entirely I use it as a top coat to my way too shiny lip glosses. I get a little less shine, which means I don’t like like I have bee stings on my face.

Hi! This comment is a tad late but I came across your site on Google. I just bought the same product as you and was looking for different reviews. I was also disappointed with the lip gloss. I agree that the colour looked a lot more pigmented in the bottle than on your lips. I also had a mini allergic reaction on my lips after using this, and there is also a strong smell to it. Great site by the way 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

aw sorry carmen hope your lips are ok now! I understand your disappointed I felt the same way 🙁 the shades are just too sheer! aw thanks so glad you enjoyed your visit!

  • Jennifer

i didn’t like them at all. i tried the lip gloss and it felt sticky to me.
