L’Oreal Magic Decrease Review & Swatches

L’Oreal Magic Decrease is a new eyeshadow primer released for Spring 2013. You should be able to find this little guy tucked right into the new Color Riche Eyeshadow Quad displays.

Now I mentioned earlier when I did another post on this that L’Oreal did indeed have a primer of sorts like this in the past however, I never actually tried that base so I can’t compare Magic Decrease to it sadly.

Here are my thoughts on Magic Decrease.

Decrease Magic is 0.2 oz in size for $8.95 (at CVS). This is a fair price for primer considering that Urban Decay offers double the amount for around $20. So really $9 is just the right price for half the size of Primer Potion.

The primer is a fleshy nude shade that dries down to a transparent finish. It has a sponge tip applicator for application so you can swipe it on and gently pat it into place with fingers. I have no problems getting it onto my eye and it blended out easily. It has a creamy, dense texture that doesn’t separate, feel oily, or greasy. It’s most comparable in texture to Make Up For Ever Eye Primer but a little creamier.

As it dries down you can feel it conforming to your lid and creating a layer over your skin for shadow to adhere to. This isn’t an uncomfortable feeling but it’s the type of primer you’ll know is on after first application.

I tried it with loose shadows, packed shadows, and cream shadows. It gave me a solid five to six hours of crease-free wear with most mediums I tried it with and in some cases with pressed shadows even longer ranging in at eight to nine hours. It really didn’t do much keeping the vibrancy of my shadows though, they did show some minor fading in terms of the intensity of their pigment as the day wore on however, they did not crease and that’s a plus.

Overall, L’Oreal Magic Decrease performs very well on my dry lids and prevented creasing on both cream and powder eyeshadow for at the least six hours of wear and sometimes longer depending on the brand of shadow I used. The price isn’t exactly budget friendly but does prove easier to pick up when you’re at the drugstore versus having to head to Sephora or another location to restock up on a higher end eyeshadow primer. However, taking into consideration coupons, the variety of sales, etc..that your local drugstore has and you’re likely to get a better deal than the $8.95 I paid.

I liked it. It performed well and did the job of keeping my shadows crease-free. I would like to note that this is probably the same exact formula as the original De-Crease Eyeshadow but just with new packaging but can’t confirm as I never tried that one.

Tried it?

I’d love to hear your thoughts!

I purchased this item.

This seems the same kind of forumula of Smashbox eye primer which is what I have.

If the price per ounce is the same as high end, solid formulas out there, I’ll really only consider with coupons/on sale!

Based on your description, I’d say this is the same as the original, or at least close to it. I still have two unopened tubes that I got on clearance a while back, plus countless UDPP & others, LOL, so I’ll pass on these for now. It’s nice to have the option though, if I happen to be at the DS.
