L’Oreal Voluminous Power Volume Black Smoke Mascara Review

L'Oreal Voluminous Power Volume Black Smoke Mascara Spring 2013

L’Oreal introduced their new L’Oreal Voluminous Power Volume Black Smoke 24H Mascara for Spring 2013 and I have to tell you I was hesitate about indulging.

My experience with the Voluminous Mascara Collection has been rather poor and in general, I’d be the first one to admit I haven’t found many mascaras, both high and low end, that have truly wow’ed me over the last several years.

But this year I seem to be on a roll! First the new Telescopic Mascara and now this little gem from L’Oreal and I’m one very happy mascara girl (P.S. Another one to think about, the new Tarte Mascara launching with the Tarte QVC Today Special Value, more on that soon).

Take a look!

As I said far be it from me to get excited about L’Oreal Voluminous anything but L’Oreal Voluminous Power Volume Black Smoke Mascara might just be my new best friend.

This has a smoky matte effect on lashes that instead of looking dry and crunchy actually makes lashes look full, fat, and dramatic. Me likey. I don’t think you can get the full effect of the mascara from my close up shots (I suck at these) but I have to say the mascara on a whole produces some truly desirable volume with a nice bit of length.

The mascara has collagen spheres and a matte finish formula. I think the key to the great application is the slightly arched brush brush with tangles up in lashes and pulls them upwards and out producing a fuller, curled finish. Although matte, something I commonly associate with crunch and dryness, this actually has a lightweight texture on my lashes that holds curl well.

It doesn’t fade, smudge, or flake on my drier eyes and has a strong wear throughout the day.

Overall, I was very happy with the results. It produced some length and a good deal of the promised volume. I was surprised as I’ve experienced some crummy times with many of the Voluminous Mascaras introduced in the past but this one was a winner.

I love this version of this mascara. Normally I don’t like this line (voluminous carbon black has been the only one for years) I like that it isn’t super wet and it doesn’t flake on me

Love the L’Oreal 24H mascara in Blackest black, without the curved brush. It does everything that I want a mascara to do and for seven bucks, I’m down. It’s my new Holy Grail mascara, replacing Maybeline’s Full n’ Soft, but only because it adds everything to my lashes with a mere single application. Love, love, love.

Wow, Muse I see how great that looks on your lashes. You do take great pictures! 😀 Ill give it a try, I need one that will not spot from my lover lashes. Even my Tarte (all the ones I have) does it. 😛

I’ve been lusting after this mascara for some reason, but I’ve held out for your review. Glad you approve, I’ll be picking this up asap!

I sure haven’t been impressed with any mascaras lately. I must be looking for something that doesn’t exist. Even blackest black doesn’t show up. I will give this a try, since I trust your opinion implicitly! 😉 The original Power Volume 24 was meh, so fingers crossed with this one.

I found this at Walmart for six bucks! Got home, tried it..oh my god my lashes look FAKE. I think this will be then only mascara I repurchase over and over, aside from Buxom Lash. I haven’t seen how it holds a curl yet but I will be ecstatic if it does!

I had to let you know that I had completely overlooked this mascara in the L’Oreal display (I was distracted by the new eyeshadows), so after reading your review I went to Harmon’s and purchased the last one ($6.79). If I had seen the darn thing from the get go, I probably would have picked it up anyway since I love a smokey eye, and the idea of a matte mascara is very appealing to me. So thanks for the review!

my pleasure! what did you think? Actually I almost overlooked it, it looked like a repromote but noticed it said “smoke” and realized it was new!

I think I’m definitely gonna try this! I haven’t had much luck with drugstore mascaras either, but my holy grail is Almay Get up and Grow. I love the brush and formula and it gives great volume and length! Not sure if you’ve tried it, I couldn’t find a review, so if you haven’t I would recommend it!

Ive tried the original one and loved it for a while. At first I could smell alcohol and my eyes needed to get used to it. I did very much enjoy the original and havent tried this one yet but I might soon. However I repurchased the original one and the formula was completely goopy and gross and the little part at the top the squeezes off the excess product came off! Like legit broke off.
