Maybelline Instant Age Rewind the Lifter Foundation Review & Swatches

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind the Lifter Foundation

I wasn’t sure I’d like the new Maybelline Instant Age Rewind the Lifter Foundation since I had a rather bad run with Covergirl Olay Tone Rehab.

These foundation with built in serums and primers just don’t seem to work out for me even though I have dry skin. You’d think my skin would love a formula like this but unfortunately, they seem super heavy and greasy on me.

I tried the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind the Lifter Foundation with the idea in my head I’d dislike it but it isn’t as bad as I thought!

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind the Lifter Foundation is available in twelve shades for $13.99-$14.99. This is a helix design that features foundation combined with a clear primer and a lifting formula which contains peptides that supposedly firm skin. I don’t think the skin on my face is in need of lifting and I can’t say that this did anything in regards to lifting. I need a few extra years on my skin before I could rave its anti-aging benefits….

However, on drier skin this is how it all went down.

I’d recommend this for dry skin or older skin. I would not recommend it for oily, normal, or combination skin. I think you’ll find the texture a little too moist for shiny skin or even combination skin. Anyone with drier skin will love it. It’s surprisingly beautiful in texture….where as Tone Rehab was a greasy experience. The Lifter is a refreshing, cool, and moist foundation product that smooths onto skin like butter and absorbs in a snap. It leaves my skin feeling refreshed (like I just splashed cool water on it), cooled, smooth, and soft. The texture is beautiful and my dry skin seems to suck it up like a cold glass of water with ice.

When the foundation is pumped out it does have an odd separation look but that’s just the primer mixed with the base that gives it that look. The texture has an almost whipped up fluffiness but the clear primer ruins that effect slightly giving it a separated gooey look.

Now this is where things get tricky….

Classic Ivory

If you already have fairly good skin and don’t like or desire medium or full coverage foundation I’d recommend this. It perfects with sheer coverage however, it won’t conceal major problems unfortunately. Redness, acne scarring, darkness, etc…will unfortunately not be covered with this. The coverage is very sheer and offers more of a tinted moisturizer experience. Although coverage is very sheer it still manages to ease my dullness and freshens up my skin plus it seems to provide all day moisture which is much needed. The thing I did dislike about it was the fact it disappeared rather quickly. Although my skin remained moist and at first application and looked fresh, as the day progressed, the dullness returned to my skin and I looked a lot less “fresh” as the day went on. I think setting with powder would prolog the wear some.

Overall, I admit, I loved this. It does have issues especially with pigment…if they can work a little more coverage into it, I’d be happy to Muse Approve it. The formula is spot on and they seemed to have perfected the primer slash foundation formula, one that works, and isn’t greasy, oily, or shiny on skin! As I mentioned above, I’m generally distrustful of this sort of foundation product but I actually ended up really like it. Should be an excellent pick for Summer as well.

If you find it on sale, try it out, it’s surprising or at least it was for me.

Tried it?

Do share!

Oh dear, Classic Ivory looks very orange. I wish more cosmetic companies would make their shades in the neutral range rather than overly yellow/orange/pink.

I had the same issues as you did with this one Muse. I like the concept though, because I add primer to my foundations before application instead of applying foundation over primer. I found that with my mature skin that works best for me. This foundation though didn’t cover any of the issues I have with my skin like age spots, melasma…etc. I found it to be very sheer, almost like a tinted moisturizer. I think it’s a good product for the right person. I’m just not the right person unfortunately.

katros def, it was incredibly sheer 🙁 sad because the texture was lovely.

well thats sitnks that the coverage isn’t more!! I would love a foundation to be smoothing and glide on my skin! lol also the classic ivory is very warm almost orange and thats not good!!

What other foundation+primers are out there?? My dry skin might love them!

I really liked this too but the ratio of foundation to primer I think needs adjusted. I’d prefer less of the primer and more of the foundation for better coverage. But the feel and wear were spot on for me. I just wish it covered more skin issues.

Problem solved. The original formula mixed with this formula at a 1:1 ratio has a beautiful result. Of course it’s an expensive way to do this, but then again, you do have twice as much!

The secret to applying this foundation is to use a brush, working upwards on from the chin. I am 67 years old so not without wrinkles. I also have fair skin, some uneven skin and some brown spots. I bought this foundation in the creamy natural shade after years of using very expensive brands such as Lancome, Dior etc. With proper skin preparation, toning and moisturising, and using a brush, Age Rewind The Lifter makes my skin look lovely and even. The colour is soft and natural on fair skin and does not go orange. It provides a light, smooth finish and I can cover brown spots and redness by applying a little extra. Best value for money.

I have tried this foundation soo many times I have lost count. Today I tried it again making sure my was dry, dry. I put it on and then tried to add a little mite to cover a spot that didn’t get even coverage. But instantly it starting rubbing off and pulling up. So obviously you can’t layer this for mite coverage. Then when I put my blush on it did the same thing, it rubbed off in little balls or flakes.. Now I am at work, 6 hours after application and it is literally falling off my face in little flakes. My Secretary just asked me if I have a Sun burn that is peeling. Yuk. I have learned my lesson. Throw this barely used bottle out. This was the first time I actually wore it all day since in the past every time I started to put it on it would just smear around and not sick to my face. I figured that was because of my sunscreen/moisturizer. This web page is the only one I have found with positive comments so I thought I would share my awful experience. I am going back to my Clinique Even Better foundation. It is the absolute prefect foundation. Luckily I have it here with me at work so I am going to wash my face and redo my makeup before my next meeting. I can’t imagine what the others in the meeting would think seeing me with this crap peeling off my face.

I bought this used it for two weeks and took it back. my face broke out every. I am older and that’s why Rewind applied to me but I wasn’t bargaining on acne. Stop using Rewind and the acne stop also. I think you need to use a product more then one or twice to really to know for sure.

    • Isabella Muse

Hi Cynthia Sorry for the issues you had. When I test products on here I typically take two to four weeks with them before reviewing. I didn’t use it once or twice prior to posting my thoughts. Hope this helps.
