Not sure about these, albeit I do have a question for you, O Great Muse! I’ve recently become obsessed with finding products that will fill/hide my gigantic, ungodly pores from hell. So far the most successful product I’ve tried has been the Missha The Style Pore Cover Balm (or something to that effect); I haven’t really tried very much, though. I was hoping you (or anybody else) could give me some recommendations! My face isn’t sensitive, nor is is prone to breakouts, so I’m open to anything, lol!

    • the Muse

i don’t really have huge pores shadia to be honest but I really like revlon photo ready primer with nars reflecting powder on top, this really perfects ;-D def do try the reflecting powder in conjunction with your primer of choice, it’s amazing!

      • Shadia L.

Dude, I’ve been lemming that NARS powder since you posted a review on it! I’m also curious about the Mally Face Defender….. Which do you believe performs better on hiding pores?

        • the Muse

both are excellent products shadia ;-D the powder might prove the longest wearing for oily skin with mally’s face defender the better option for oily skin. honestly if you have the $$ I’d indulge in both.

Shadia L, Try NYX pore filler. It does the best job filling in pores of anything I’ve ever tried, and I’ve tried a lot! And, it’s not too expensive. Also does a great job taking away shine and bluring fine lines. I’ve got tubes of this everywhere, car, purse, bathroom, bedroom…

      • Shadia L.

Thanks so much for the recommendation! The few NYX products I’ve tried have been awesome, for the most part, so I’ll definitely look into that!

    • K.B.

I’m in the same boat as you, Shadia, so I’ll try to help you out. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Benefit’s Pore-fessional primer, but I haven’t gotten around to trying it, so that’s the only thing that I don’t have personal experience with.

As for my recommendations, I’ve noticed that my skincare regimen has done far more to help my pore issue. I have really bad blackheads on my nose and chin, but my pores are highly visible on my cheeks. I also want to mention that I have very, very oily skin, so take that into consideration.

I don’t know what your budget is, or if, like me, you’re willing to cut back on other expenses to spend more on skincare, but I suggest investing in a Clarisonic with the pore refining brush. I also really like Kate Somerville’s ExfoliKate (I use the acne version), and Origins Clear Improvement mask. I’ve switched to the Peter Thomas Roth Glycolic Acid gel because of its anti-aging qualities, but if you’re uncomfortable spending that much money, and you’re looking for one amazing product, I’d highly suggest you check out Clinique’s pore refining correcting serum. I saw a difference after using it twice a day for 2 or 3 weeks, and that’s the fastest any skincare product has worked for me.

As for makeup, I like Tarte’s 12 hour poreless primer (the one in the purple tube). Clinique has a pore refining foundation that is pretty decent, but I don’t consider it an “OMG you gotta try this!” product. When I apply foundation, I stipple it on my cheeks (and I apply a second layer of foundation), and then I pat (instead of buffing it into my skin) my setting powder so that it also helps “blur” my pores. I’m currently using the MUFE HD powder, but I wouldn’t recommend it. I’m just trying to make myself use it up before I try something new.

I’m sorry that I don’t have a lot of makeup recommendations, but if you were to take one (or two lol) recommendations from my long-winded reply, it would be the Clinique pore refining correcting serum and the Clarisonic with the pore refining brush.

      • Shadia L.

Ahhh, I’ve seen and heard a bit about Benefit’s Pore-fessional, but have yet to try it.

I also have pretty oily skin and tend to get nasty blackheads on my nose if I’m not careful; the pores on my cheeks are highly visible as well. I usually keep my pores gunk-free with a mandelic/salicylic acid serum and occassionally dot on some benzoyl peroxide on the rare pimple or two. To cleanse my face, I use either a cleansing balm or a cleansing oil, followed by liquid castille soap. I’ve always been interested in the Clarisonic brushes, but I literally have ZERO room on my bathroom countertop for anything else, lol! My biggest problem is when I get super lazy and sleep in my makeup, which I know is terrible and disgusting, but I guess I just suck, lol! Otherwise, my skincare regimen works out pretty nicely….when I stick with it! I am, however, very interested in the Clinique pore refining serum you mentioned, so thanks for that! Budget isn’t too large an issue, but I tend to spend waaaaaaay more on makeup than skincare products–lately, though, this seems to be reversing! Ahhh, getting older stinks!

Does the Tarte primer hide your pores well? I usually use the Missha Pore Cover Balm, then pat on some Skin79 BB cream and I too finish with MUFE’S HD powder, which I find to be okay for the most part (I’m always trying new powders, though!)

        I appreciate the feedback!

        • K.B.

It does a better job than the other primers I’ve tried (I’m currently going back and forth between that, the MUFE HD primer, and the Hourglass Mineral Veil), but it’s not an HG product for me. It makes my face feel really smooth (and a little goes a very long way), and it helps with my foundation stippling trick, so it’s worthy of a recommendation for that alone.

I’m really interested in the NARS loose powder mostly because it claims to blur pores.

I am so jealous of you, Lorac is unavailable here in Turkey and I really need to use silicone free cosmetics I was already lusting for Aquaprime but now this?!! 🙁

  • K.B.

Ugh. I’m such a sucker for anything that claims to be pore refining and/or mattifying, so I’ll definitely pick this up. Looks like I’ll be placing an order with Ulta.com today, even though I already have 3 primers that I should finish up before I even look at another primer. lol

I hope you’ve kicked that cold/flu once and for all and that your life has calmed down a little, Muse! 🙂

    • the Muse

cold is gone thank GAWD! thanks for asking! but sadly life isn’t calm, busy, busy, busy and more busy ;-D I need a little R&R!

  • Joy

Muse, please please please do reviews on these products at some point. I’m so curious about them. I hope they’re as amazing as they sound.

  • Joanna

Yes I am up for trying a new primer and I am now eyeing the Lorac POREfection Mattifying Face Primer.

  • Angel

Hallelujah! It’s so damn hard finding a silicone free primer. Love that it’s paraben and fragrance free as well. Every silicone primer I’ve ever used has broken me out hardcore. I’m excited to try this!

  • LuckyCat

I actually just snagged this at Ulta, and have to say the “I’m So Sensitive” face primer is pure heaven for my crazy skin. I am not entirely convinced that it helps control shine all that well, but it does do a pretty wonderful job of filling in pores and leaves my face feeling super soft and hydrated. Certainly the best silicone free primer I’ve tried to date. Hopefully, there will be more reviews on this in the future. I felt like I was flying blind when I purchased it!

  • Jennie

The POREfection mattifying primer broke me out. Should have known since it is silicone based. No thanks to the lady at sephora who recommended it even though I told her other silicone based primers have broke me out in the past. However my makeup did last all day…. I just started getting really bumpy around my nose and noticed all my pores getting clogged at around the noon hour. Not pretty. Excited to try the I’m so sensitive primer though!

    • casey23

Oh the guys in Sephora are clueless! I am also sensitive to silicone. The guy there looked at my face (as if I asked for is) and told me that I’ve got pores and showed Porefessional, told me that this is necessary for me bla bla and in the middle of his speech I stopped him and told him that I can’t use it since silicone is one of its main ingredients. And he argued with me without checking the ingredients list, so I took one box showed him “See here it says dimethicone… That is silicone!” and he didn’t care a bit. He just said “whatev…” and went to the next shopper.. I do know that I can never trust a salesperson to know the ingredients so I always check from the internet before the buy.
