Revlon Colorstay Concealer (Spring 2013) Review & Swatches

Revlon released a new version of Colorstay Concealer for Spring 2013. I’ve never tried this concealer before but I do believe it might simply be a repackaged version of their original Colorstay formula which used to come in a click pen applicator. But don’t quote me as I never tried that one….! I’m assuming that perhaps it was repackaged and has minor formula adjustments.

According to Revlon it will provide 24 hours of wear. This drugstore cosmetic claims get more and more ridunkculous lately….being a concealer junkie I’m all about long wear but 24 straight hours? Who even needs that?

Take a look!

This comes in six shades for $9.99 and I both like and dislike the formula.

The sponge applicator makes it easy to dot onto blemishes or to swipe under eyes for even coverage. You can swipe and blend out with fingers as I do. I find the sponge convenient and easy to use under my eyes and it should prove just as great for areas on your face should you wish to use this to conceal blemishes, minor imperfections, etc….

The formula is…dry…it’s a thicker, creamier formula that should provide sheer to medium coverage however, the thickness isn’t entire pleasant when you’re trying to go with a sheer layer. I find it blends best when I prep VERY well. I need to pay proper attention to moisturizing under my eyes quite well to get the best application with this as it is dry and will crease without a little TLC work prior to application.

Light Medium Swatched

At first I hated it…it felt too thick under my eyes, somewhat cakey, and it looked like I had concealer on. It took a little bit of practice to get just the right amount under my eyes and quite a good deal of moisture before hand for the best finish. I really don’t want to have to work this hard for concealer application in all honesty…

The bad news is without proper prepping prior it’ll crease, look uneven, and possibly aging and unnatural. The good news is with work it’ll look very natural, with a crease-free finish that wears quite long (at least nine to ten hours).

It’ll probably conceal on skin easier than under eyes as the formula pats on quite nicely, evenly, and smoothly when I attempted a patch test. Under eyes is where you need to pay extra care and attention.

Overall, if you don’t mind prepping super well prior to application under eyes you should be ok with this. I wouldn’t recommend it for extra aging eyes or drier ones though. It has a semi-matte satiny finish that should work well for oily eyes however, drier eyes might find it creases and looks unnatural so plenty of moisture before hand is recommended.

I didn’t love it but I did think it was ok. It isn’t something I’d purchase again but for now, I’d be more than willing to use up the tube I did purchase. It provides decent coverage when applied correctly and gave a long, flawless wear under my eyes. It’s just the extra time I need to take prior to application that kills me…..!

Available now at drugstores.

I purchased this item.

Yeah I tried this one too and it didn’t impress me. Now I just keep it in my car for blemish touch ups.

It’s really really thick? Do you think it would work well as a spot concealer for acne or scarring?

hi. I have been trying to get a good concealer but not able to. I have some blemishes and dark circles to cover. I hate it when a concealer leaves a grey area under my eyes. I have dark and hollow eyes. I have been reading your concearler reviews..Just wondering is there any concealer that you can recommend me?
