Aveeno Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturizer Review & Swatches

Aveeno Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturizer 3

I’ve never tried Aveeno Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturizer so I thought I’d give it a test prior to trying the Aveeno Clear Complexion BB Cream as it would be easier to compare the two formulas.

Companies are a little guilty of switching around the names of their Tinted Moisturizers and simply adding “BB Cream” to new packaging so I wasn’t sure if Aveeno was doing the same thing. Both Covergirl and Olay have done this recently…!

After I review Aveeno Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturizer I’ll follow up with my review of the Aveeno Clear Complexion BB Cream to compare the two formulas.

Here’s my thoughts on the tinted moisturizer formula and I’ll follow up shortly with my thoughts and comparisons to the BB Cream formula!

Aveeno Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturizer is one of those products you’re either going to really love or really hate. Available in a Fair to Light and Medium shade selection this tinted moisturizer is a little limited in the shade department. If you fit into these two shade selections you should be a-ok! I tried the Fair to Light but I think the Medium would be better (although it might be too dark, I haven’t swatched it!). Although a smidge too light for me it is sheer enough to blend away without looking pasty.

Aveeno Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturizer

The formula is a gel-like consistency with a thinner formula. For the most part it resembles a lightweight lotion or daily moisturizer with a bit of tint. It absorbs easily into skin and moisturizers my drier skin quite nicely. I’m comfortable using it as a daily moisturizer at the moment and would even recommend forgoing moisturizer in place of this. It leaves a dewy finish on skin and blends out seamlessly without clinging to flaky areas of my face such as my dry, patchy cheeks.

This contains Total Soy Complex which promises to brighten and even skin tone while providing SPF 30 sun protection. Personally I didn’t feel my skin looked brighter after use but it did create a smooth, even surface for my makeup. It’s a no makeup look which I’m very comfortable with. It eases dullness, softens skin, and evens it out. I’m not really convinced I love the completed look though. The dewiness isn’t terribly pleasant for me somehow as the product makes itself known, not something I’m used to with bases.

Although it contains SPF 30 it does not contain UVA ingredients which is why I would NOT forgo sunscreen when using this. Plus you’d need to apply a heck of a lot anyway so sunscreen prior is always the best option.

Overall, Aveeno Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturizer is a nice budget friendly option ($12.99-$14.99 at drugstores) with a fairly nice formula. I think it takes tinted moisturizer to a different level as this texture and formula reminds me more of a tinted lotion of sorts do to the thinner formula. I have to admit as much as I liked the formula something felt like it was missing and I wasn’t quite impressed with the finished results. My skin looked ok and even good after application but not nearly as flawless as I typically like to look. Perhaps the sheerer formula just wasn’t doing much for me.

I’ve been using aveeno for 2 months now and it’s a great product but I agree something is missing. My problem with it…is, it leaves me looking patchy through out the day…it’s not consititant on its over all stay power no matter how evenly I distribute it on my face. :/ I’m on the hunt for a new foundation after I finish this aveeno off

hi DomesticandDesigner…there’s something not right with it, I can’t put my finger on it! I dunno if it is too sheer for me or maybe too dewy!? I didn’t look patchy thankfully but I didn’t feel finished either if that makes sense?!

SPF isn’t an ingredient, it’s a measurement of how well the sunscreen performs. The active ingredients in the photo you provide are UVA/UVB filters, these give the lotion the SPF

    • the Muse

sorry tea I stand corrected what I mean to say is it does not contain essentials such as titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, avobenzone, all important SPF ingredients. Apologies for the way I worded it. Rushed out what I was trying to say ;D

I think there are even tiny shimmers in the formula. I get a lot of people pointing out that my face has little sparkles under the sunlight whenever I use this product. That’s what made me stop using it eventually.

    • the Muse

ya know maybe that’s what it is, I looked in the mirror outside and it wasn’t really shimmery but it kinda glowed and I can’t do glow with my fuller face.

      • Audrey C.

The last two ingredients are mica and iron oxides, which I bet are to blame for the shimmery effect. I used to use the Aveeno Positively Radiant body lotion, and it gives a really nice glowing and blurring effect on your legs but it’s probably too much for the face!

I have used this products for a couple of years now. I have oily skin and it gives me a nice sheer coverage without a lot of product buildup. I use it primarily in the summer time and I think the products looks best when set with a good powder. I also have large pores and this products does a nice job of softening the look of them, especially when I use it consistently. I will say I notice a difference in skin tone the more I use the product – evens it out.

  • Meezer

I do use the positively radiant line but I hesitated in buying this since I had such poor luck with other tinted moisturizers. The colours just never looked right and with this one only offering two shades I decided to keep on looking.

  • Jade

I have tried this product, and I hated it lol. I found that it didn’t offer any coverage – it actually seemed to collect around imperfections and make them more obvious. The colour was actually pretty good, a smidge too dark, but as I’m NC15, it’s hard to find anything that’s not orange!

  • Liza

I tried it and returned it. The ‘shimmer’ bordered on glittery for me and with my oily skin, I don’t need any help with getting a ‘dewy’ finish 🙂

  • Iris

I look forward to the BB Cream review. The “dewy” finish for this one doesn’t seem like it’d go well with my oily skin.

Any word yet on the new Peter Thomas Roth CC cream or the Loreal Nude Magique CC cream color correctors (anti-fatigue, anti-redness, anti-dullness)?

  • Danii

The shade looks like the 10 Classic Beige or whatever is Neutrogena’s lightest shade. I don’t like the looks of it either.

  • Autumn

I used this for months last year, but gave up on it. I love the moisture of it and the finish it gives, but it make me so shiny. I feel bad complaining, because it seemed like it has really good wear time, and just enough tint to give a no makeup look for me. But I looked shiny all day with this, and setting it with powder just hid the shine for a few hours.

  • Avalith

I’ve had this but every time I applied it, even on my bare skin, it will rub off like an eraser on my skin and it was just absolutely terrible.. that could’ve been a defect or I got one that was in the store for too long or something, because my mom bought the exact same one and hers didn’t rub off weird at all.

    • the Muse

that happens to me too avalith depending which moisturizer I use…! it’s odd!

  • Beautycat

This one doesn’t work for me. I’ve tried Aveeno clear complexion BB cream as well, and the BB cream is way better in terms of formulation and color matching (at least for me). I am in the shade of fair to light. I do like the sheer coverage of this TM, however the TM a orange/peachy tone in it while the BB cream offers more yellow tone.
