Dr. Jart Water Fuse Smart Gel BB Review & Swatches

This was provided to me by a brand for review but all opinions expressed are my own

Dr. Jart Water Fuse Smart Gel BB 1

Dr. Jart Water Fuse Smart Gel BB is an interesting new BB Cream from the brand that features a bounce-y texture that just makes you want to sit around and play with it.

I was tempted to make a little video featuring it as I wanted you to see the texture in as true to life medium as possible. The thing is, the bb cream, almost has a life its own. Seriously! It’s ALIVE! You can pop a finger in it, scrap some off the top, place a brush in it, and after a few seconds to a minute it’ll “grow” over and become fresh and new again. It’s odd! We have to be careful, it might take over the universe at some point!

The unique jelly texture of this BB Cream is definitely worth a trip to your local Sephora just to play with it if not to buy. It comes in a smallish round container and has a jello-like look and texture. If you tap it or poke it, it’ll wriggle! If you scrap some of it off with the included spatula or poke a finger in it or do anything to upset the smooth finish it’ll basically reshape itself, back to it’s original form, within a few seconds. I can seriously spend hours messing around with it just to watch it “regrow” as I’ve taken to calling it.

The bounce-y texture isn’t the only fab thing about this. It sports an SPF 30, is available in a Light Medium and Medium Dark shade selection (the original BB Cream launch from Dr Jart only came in one shade), and it features a formula that’s extremely hydrating.

The dewy finish will get a welcome from those with dry skin but might prove too much for those with oily skin so you might want to test in store prior to a full purchase if your skin type is oily. I find it has a sheerer finish in comparison to some of Dr Jart’s other BB Cream offerings but it still manages to even out skin tone, ease dullness, and perfect skin while keeping it fresh and moist through the wear. The shorter wear time I experienced was a disappointment as I only got about two to three hours of wear before it faded away on me but aside from that I enjoyed how easily it blended and how nicely it looked on my skin.

Dr. Jart Water Fuse Smart Gel BB is an interesting product to say the least. A little more wear time and it would be damn near perfect for me plus fun to use (I could spend hours just poking at it and watching it reshape). If you like sheerer coverage with a natural, flawless finish I’d recommend trying it out especially for those with drier skin.

It’s available now at Sephora and Sephora.com

I’ve been SO curious about this product, especially because it’s not in any of my local sephoras, thanks for the review Muse!

It looks cool? But it’s way too dark for me and too hydrating for my combo/oily skin. I’ll give this a pass.

Interesting product. I have never even heard of this brand and I live in Japan {I came here after searching for Kate product review I think!}- I need some new make up and have been reading your reviews of some of the J based or worldwide products. Off to do some shopping tomorrow.

Only need a primer and a powder foundation but might be tempted to get some blush and lipstick as well. Oh and eyeliner since mine is getting low.

Will be back to continue reading your reviews of J based products.

I use Kesalan Patharnan concealer by the way- Love it and have been using it for years {since I first started living in Japan which was 2004}. It is one of my consistent purchases in make up . Not all department stores here stock the brand but Seibu & Tokyu usually do! I checked out your reviews of the products you have done by that brand just now.

Anyway thanks for sharing your reviews- always interesting to read others perspectives.

lol I’ll try to update with a video shortly! ;-D It’s kinda fun to watch it…!

The lighter color looks too dark for me. It sounds cool but I would never buy something that had to be reapplied every few hours!

  • kimkats

Lol – so does it reach out and grab back what you took out to apply? *pictures have to (literally) fight with makeup in the AM*

Imagine me clapping my hands as I shout:
    Vid-e-o!
    Vid-e-o!
    Vid-e-o!

    hee hee 🙂

I told my boyfriend that it “regrows” itself, and he got excited.XD I want to see it regrow too! It’s just so neat! Even if I can’t wear it since its so dark.

It looks interesting, do a video if you can to show us! It kind of looked like it was oxidizing a little around the edges of the swatch. I have to go see it in person. The jelly texture sounds nice.

I actually used samples of this for almost a week in Light/Medium. I found it a bit difficult to blend on the face. I felt like I had to keep reaching in for more & more product bc of its sheerness (I’m OK with sheer coverage, but dang, this is SUPERSHEER) and I tried using hands, fingers, brushes, etc. Hands were the best option btw…

Great concept, but no bueno in my opinion.

Mac nc25 & dry skin for reference.

I am an NC50 African-American with combination skintype. I was very excited to find this bb in a med-dark color in my local Sephora. I swatched it and found the hydrating effect on my 51 year old skin to be wonderful! I tried it on my face and my pores disappeared – thanks to the morphing characteristic of the gel. I mixed a spatula sized dollop with a drop of MUFE Face and Body#44 (also a water-based gel texture), warmed it up on the back of my hand and patted it onto my moisturized skin. It was a PERFECT match and a flawless finish that didn’t look like makeup but, instead, looked like great skin.
I have since added to my ever growing collection of BB and CC creams using a drop of high quality foundation to match it to my skin tone. My skin looks so natural and flawless(great genes-no wrinkles or lines yet) that I my daugthers and friends are now using BB creams.

yeah just a touch sejal however, the second shade MIGHT be ok if you’re a little lighter tan. you might want to swatch in store to be safe.

I am seriously considering getting this, but O Great and Powerful Muse, I need your advice! LOL I’ve been reading your reviews since Shiseido Perfect Refining Foundation and I found my experience with that to be almost the exact same as yours! The Premium version of this was way too pink of my slightly yellower skin so what do you think of this one? Does it oxidise at all? And do you think a primer and setting powder would help it to stay longer? Thanks!!!

    • the Muse

Hi Kathy hardly great nor powerful but thanks ha….I didn’t have an issue with oxidizing. It might help with setting powder and primer, I typically use primer anyway but didn’t notice any better of a wear but didn’t set with powder to be honest so that might help!

I bought this two days ago and i’m already obsessed. It goes on so smooth and even. It lasted all night on me and I actually got a compliment on my complexion. I highly recommend it!
