Etude House Sweet Recipe Chocolate Highlighter Review & Swatches

Etude House Sweet Recipe Chocolate Highlighter

Recently I got my Etude House Sweet Recipe Chocolate Highlighter from the new Etude House Sweet Recipe Collection. I rarely use highlighters however, I am a magpie so sparkly, pretty powders are one of my biggest downfalls.

I couldn’t resist purchasing this little highlighter especially since it’s shaped like a brick of white chocolate.

Take a look!

Etude House Chocolate Highlighter

This is 14,000 won which is roughly $12.91 USD. By Etude House pricing that’s a little high however, for us, here in the US, that’s cheap as sin.

I have to admit that although cute the box is a little flimsy which takes down the price drastically for me. I’m a little surprised as typically Etude House has some fairly nice packaging but this is a very flimsy cardboard box. For example, the Balm also stores many of their blushes and powders in a similiar style of packaging however, at the least, their packaging is sturdy and I don’t feel like I’ll break or crush it if I’m traveling with it. Etude House’s Sweet Recipe Chocolate Highlighter is basically flimsy cardboard, paper at best which will become rather battered with daily use or travel.

This is a slide out design so it some ways it kinda resembles a fancy chocolate bar. Inside the powder is divided into what appears to be six breakable chocolate pieces. Each piece has a small emblem like a heart, a little star, etc….These didn’t swipe away with two uses of the highlighter but given time I imagine they’ll fade with use.

The highlighter is divided into graduating shades of light beiges. The first is a true creamy beige, the second a pale cream beige, and the last a pink almost peach beige. You can use the shades together or individually. Together I find they combine to create a white gold shimmer.

It’s actually a very sparkly highlighter and a bit frosty. It does cling to flaky areas so I imagine it’ll accentuate larger pores as well. I didn’t like it as an all over highlighter but preferred using it on my highbrow area as a highlighter or even as a sheer color wash on lids.

Overall, the packaging is darling (although a little flimsy) and the entire highlighter in theory is truly adorable. However, the actual product is a little difficult to use due to frostiness and too much shimmer. If you’re an expert highlighter user you’ll probably adore it but if you aren’t and you’re a bit heavy handed it might not be for you.

For purchase I’d recommend Zinopark on E-bay. I’m not affiliated with him merely shopped from him before. He’s fast to ship, has reasonable prices, and fair shipping prices.

I purchased this item.

This reminds me alot of the e.l.f. “bronzer” in Golden, which I use as an everyday highlighter. I think if this were more readily available, I’d definitely check it out, but one way I “control” my spending is by limiting shopping online, LOL. Just curious-does it *smell* like white chocolate? That may force me to rethink my policy, LOL.

Did you also get the Chocolate eyes eyeshadow palette? I am still thinking whether or not I should get it.

I’m excited to see you review the rest of the collection. I have a few (too many) of the Sweet Recipe collection on my wishlist… So I’m half hoping some things are not as good so I won’t have to buy it all haha!

While it might seem like too much for the face, it could work well as a browbone highlighter. (Trying to think of other uses because I just bought this, but it hasn’t come in yet!) Muse, are you going to review the Jelly Lips? (Have you tried any on your eyes?)

hi Danielle! that’s how I’ve been using this and also as a color wash on lids 🙂 too much frost/shimmer for my entire face tbh. I did but haven’t tried them yet on lips or eyes 🙂 but will def be reviewing shortly!

How cute! I’m currently using The balm mary lou manizer. I have to use a very light hand. I don’t own any other powder highlighters so really can’t compare to any other types.

Ah, I’m glad I only picked up the nail polishes. For now. I’m not a fan of the flimsy packaging and wish it was more like the Bourjois Delice de Poudre (the fact they discontinued the highlighter just galls me).

I just bought this today and I really think it’s super cute! A suggestion is that maybe you could use it as a BODY shimmer or something! I really want the Sweet Recipe chocolate eyes palette but they didn’t have it…. might have to pick it up from ebay or something ^_^
