MAC Archie’s Girls Caramel Sundae Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
I’m sure you’re well on your way to getting your goodies from the MAC Archie’s Girls release. Did your order include the Caramel Sundae Eyeshadow Palette ($44) by chance?
This palette contains four lighter shades of color for all the Bettys out there.
I actually like this palette considerably more than Veronica’s which contains some heavier purple shade. The palette is MAC’s traditional slim line rectangle that they embrace for many special edition released. Inside you’ll find Cherly Chic, Dreammaker, Caramel Sundae, and Showstopper.
Cheryl Chic is a light coral pink but oddly enough it somehow swatches lilac on me. Don’t ask! I’ve no idea why. On my lid it has a frosty finish with a sheerer formula that builds easily. Dreammaker is the perfect pairing with the shade as it’s a yellow gold that blends out nice as an inner eye color with Cheryl Chic on the outer lid area for a festive Spring eye look. The frosty finish isn’t bad here but it does have a weaker color pay off as well and quite powdery when applied leading to fall out.
Although both of these weren’t terribly appealing in the quality department I did find success with both Caramel Sundae and Showerstopper. These shades are a nice contrasting duo with fairly nice pigmentation. The satiny finish of Caramel Sundae is very easy to work with and applied smoothly and even Showerstopper, a matte finish shadow, was easy to work with even those the shadow was dense and hard. I did find that sponge tip applicators aid in the best application here as brushes seemed to not work well with the color!
Texture and color wise I think Spoiled Rich (Veronic’s Palette) is the more difficult to work with. Caramel Sundae is the easier of the two to use and create looks with. I dunno if I’d necessarily use all four of these shades in one look but I like that I can create two looks with them.
Quality isn’t really up the speed with many of MAC’s other offerings and I think the main appeal might be the collectability of the packaging and overall, collection. I have felt for a very long time that MAC has failed a little with recent eyeshadow palettes. Caramel Sundae isn’t necessarily a huge fail (I’ve seen worst from them) but it isn’t a huge success either.
For collector’s, yes get it. For those wanting practical, quality makeup, perhaps skip it for some MAC standard single shades instead! I know, the cute packaging is terribly appealing but you might be happier with quality shades from the general catalog instead!
