Make Up For Ever Technicolor Palette

Who’s up for reliving the 80’s with the new Make Up For Ever Technicolor Eyeshadow Palette ($45)? I see neons I think 80’s! Leg warmers, scrunchies, pop beads….remember pop beads? Come on there has to be someone that remember those.

Technically the Make Up For Ever Technicolor Palette is an eight shadow collection of classic neutrals and statement colors inspired by 1930’s cinematic transition from black-and-white motion picture to color imagery.

But I’m just seeing the 80’s flash before my eyes.

I remember when Pop Lid Neon was kinda my absolutely need to have item back in 2008 and this palette kinda got me all nostalgic about it (god going back to that post I am literally scared of my bad swatch photos! haha!).

So do you need the Technicolor Palette?

The Technicolor Palette contains:

  • Black
  • Yellow
  • Apple Green
  • Turquoise
  • Lilac
  • White
  • Espresso
  • Yellow Beige

These are all matte shades aside from the lighter beige shade with had a frosty shimmer to it. Most of the shades swatch excellently and have a consistently pigmented formula with a silky feel. I had absolutely no issues with swatching these and thought they felt incredible on my arm.

I’d like to say that I want to run around with bright matte shades of blue and green on my eye but in reality I’m not terribly tempted to do so. The Technicolor Palette is definitely marketed towards those who want something fun and bold. I was put off by the matte finish to begin with, it’s not my medium of choice, but adding neon shades to a matte finish proves a daring release as I’m unsure how many people will really want to get their hands on such a palette.

Aside from that I believe the formula swatched nicer than they applied. I think the colors are a tad challenging to work with. I tried doing a green and blue look but the shades didn’t want to play nicely together and blended out super muddy and patchy. If you’re gun-ho to try the palette I’d suggest a solid cream base for the best application as well as a sponge tip applicator as brushes won’t do. A sponge slightly dampened will aid in getting the color built up easier and you can of course, revert to a blending brush later on. Make Up For Ever does include two mini brushes with the palette but as I said sponges are best.

I did play it safe and used the light beige and brown in a look and these had a better wear time and an easier to apply formula. I think the neon shades are just more of an issue for me application wise. They are really hard colors to pull off and the formula is a little unforgiving to apply correctly.

Overall, the Make Up For Ever Technicolor Palette is a daring little piece for Spring 2013. Those who like bold, bright mattes might love it but keep in mind it is a hassle to work with and a little aid of a cream base and a few sponge tipped eyeshadow applicators are handy to have around for the best application.

This is available now at Sephora and Sephora.com or Make Up For Ever Boutiques.

Curious minds, do you love it?

I saw this in-store a couple of weeks ago, but I opted for the LORAC Pro palette, instead, LOL. I figured 3 of these shades would get little to no use, and they didn’t even swatch the way I’m used to MUFE shadows performing. I’ll just stick to the singles.

I agree with you, swatches beautifully but it applies very different. Very deceiving!

Idk why but I reaaaaalllllly want this….like reaaaaaalllllly bad. Haha! I think the different bright, bold colors are just so interesting to me!

I think this is cool and it does remind me of that POP BEAUTY palette from way back. I WANT this only because I WANT everything LOL. I will not purchase because I know I won’t be sporting these colors anytime soon. At my age there is a fine line between “Rockin’ it” and “Oh no she didn’t!” LOL

THat said, the blue and green kind of remind me of the new NARS duel shadow palette that is in the Spring 2013 collection. I saw an eye done with the green on the lid and a little into the crease and the blue winged out as an eyeliner – the finished look was really nice and didn’t look crazy at all.

I’m glad someone remembers that pop palette ;-D I still have mine somewhere. LOL same here don’t feel bad…! I’m always a little scared of blue/green lately, my tired eyes don’t do well with all that color le sigh!

Ughhh…this palette has bad reviews everywhere so I’m not getting it but I am disappointed…I own several single shadows from MUFE and I LOVE them and they dont have hardly any palettes…and the one palette they make that has brights and neutrals….is a dud. SIGH.
