Maybelline Melon Mania Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Balm Review & Swatches

Maybelline Melon Mania Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Balm LE

As you know the Maybelline Baby Lips Collection has been extended with five new limited edition shades for Spring. I recently reviewed Coral Crush for you and as a special favor to a reader I picked up Melon Mania as she wanted to see swatches of the shade.

Let’s take a look!

Maybelline Melon Mania Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Balm Spring 2013

I gotta admit I’ve never caught on to the craze for Baby Lips. They are a basic tinted lip balm and I can think of any number of balms that I’d rather use and own in comparison. I totally know they are cheap but they still aren’t a fav of mine.

Melon Mania just like Coral Crush is a very sheer balm. If you have paler lips you’re in luck as you might see some tint from it however, I have pigmented lips so it only adds a sheen to them versus any tint. This has a fruity citrus flavor (I wish it lasted like melon) which isn’t overpowering and quite pleasant.

Maybelline Melon Mania Baby Lips

This is less glossy than Coral Crush so it feels a little heavier on my lips and balm-y in texture. The balms are nice enough but I don’t think they provide eight hours of hydration as advertised.

Melon Mania is a really nice shade of popping pink, kinda neon-like. It’ll look cute on paler lips but unfortunately I don’t see that shade on my own lips.

As I said in prior reviews it really isn’t necessary to haul all these different shades as most look the same. If you want a cheaper, inexpensive lip balm I’d go with Soft Lips or something similiar. For tinted balm I’d think the plunge and go with one of Clinique’s new Chubby Pencils. I dunno Baby Lips just don’t do it for me!

These are just very basic and uneventful to me.

Love ’em?

Not so much?

Do share!

I purchased this item.

I agree, they aren’t very exciting. I have a grape one and pink punch…they are just ok, but at least they don’t give you wallet remorse =)

    • the Muse

that’s true Amanda ;-D they are a cute purchase if you’re craving cheap beauty ;D

  • Smriti

I have it in Antioxidant berry (I think that’s Quenched abroad) but my nivea lip balms are much better than these. I swear by the essential care variant. That’s one of the best stuff I’ve come across in a twist-up tube!

I have a handful of Baby Lips shades. I’m a fangirl of these. I do like this shade but I love the scent even more.

Hey, there are $1 off Maybelline coupons on Target’s site – it is a Target coupon. There is also a printable manufacturer coupon for $1 off Baby Lips – I don’t want to post the direct link to the coupon because I don’t know if that is allowed here, but google “maybelline baby lips coupon” and I am sure you’ll find it on a variety of different coupon blogs and/or couponing websites. Babylips is only $2.99 at Target, so you can stack the Target store coupon with the manufacturer coupon and get it for 99.. Take care.

Funny, I just bought this one. I actually like Baby Lips a lot and I own almost all of them. My lips are not very pigmented though so they show up on me pretty nicely. Pink Punch is the only one that is really pigmented, though.

      • Anna

Not many show up too well but certain shades are quite pigmented (pink punch, for example) and they can easily be built up in color.

        🙂

nothing at all I just don’t like basic 🙂 I want something with a little more tint, little more shine 🙂 I’m just not into a basic lip balm, prefer a lip pencil with more tint/shine.

  • Kiss & Make-up

Looks alright but definitely doesn’t make me go all ooh and aah. I own too many tinted lip balms already to pick up this one 🙂

I have never understood the baby lips craze myself. I don’t find them very hydrating and and with little to no color (on my lips) I don’t get it.

    • the Muse

me neither, completely a basic lip balm that is so hyped up. What am I missing?

  • Missy Valentine

I use they’re chap stick (babylips) but i can’t seem to find it in America! I always stalk up when i vacation in foreign countries!

  • Christi

ITA, these lip balms are basic, and not even very moisturizing! Nothing’s wrong with basic if it actually works well, cuz sometimes u need just a basic hydrating product that will heal your chapped lips. These don’t do that to, so you’re left with a basic, a.k.a. Boring slightly pigmented tinted lip balm. The only shade in this that has some nice pigment to it is pink punch, which is a pretty bright pink. I totally have never understood the whole baby lips “craze” in the beauty world either!

    • the Muse

yeah ditto..they provide ok moisture but no where near the 8 hours advertised and the tint is disappointed. I think you can totally do a great moisturizing tinted lip balm on the cheap but these aren’t it!

  • Chelsea

I don’t like the texture of the Baby Lips balms. Tinted lip balm is my go-to lip product (I like sheer color and a moist look) but Burt’s Bees in Hibiscus is my mainstay.

    • the Muse

Chelsea me too b/c I’m lazy about reapplying my gloss and lipstick…def love all the chubby lip pencils available at the moment they are great for tossing into my bag and getting moisture and tint on the go ;D

  • Christine Joy Luikuo

Such a disappointment that its flavor does not coincide with its name. Melon could’ve been a yummy flavor!

  • Jaz

I dont like the baby lips. I was just looking for a good balmy-chapstick type of deal, so I bought one at work one night. I took it right back. They did absolutely nothing for my lips 🙁

    • the Muse

me neither jaz…they are ok but not as great as the raves I hear.

  • Citygirl907

I find the untinted Baby Lips to be way more moisturising and generally a lot more amazing than the tinted versions. I compared ‘energizing orange’ and the tinted ‘berry crush’ and was surprised how different they were since they are both ‘baby lips’.
I do live in Australia though so we probably some super old product that isn’t even sold over there any more and the packaging is different too! Hahaha

  • Amy

I actually love these…I’m obsessed w/ lip products & find that as I get older, less is more for me. I’m wearing Melon Mania now & when I was washing my hands, I was impressed at how “glowy” my lips look. Kind of a glowing coral-pink pn my pale-ish lips. I find them to be very moisturizing and a good alternative to something much pricier like Fresh balms. I also like Yummy Plummy. If you like these LE colors & can find them, I’d suggest snagging some back-ups. I saw Melon Mania on Amazon for $16.99!
