Physicians Formula Happy Booster Glow & Mood Illuminating Bronzing Veil Review & Swatches

Visions of Etude House might have came to mind when my eyes set on the new Physicians Formula Happy Booster Glow & Mood Illuminating Bronzing Veil.

Too bad this isn’t a blush as I’d really go full out ballistic…tongue hanging out of my mouth, drool, buggy eyed…ya know that kinda reaction to wicked sweet makeup!

Some of that joy was held back though as I’m so not a bronzing girl but still these cute little heart shaped bronzing beads are too adorable to pass up.

Well, they are a bit of a waste. These come in two shade selections Light Bronze and Bronzer however, after trying both (I only own one but tried the other shade since my friend purchased it) I can honestly say they are terribly sheer and just not worth the $14.99 price tag.

The hearts are stored in a domed lid screw top container with a brush and a powder puff housed inside for application. There’s also a mirror on the lid of the top. There are two varieties of shades here one of which is an golden bronze heart and a muddy semi-matte one. In a powder format these colors might actually look very pretty on skin reflecting a golden bronzed hue. However, the hearts make it difficult to pick color up which results in very sheer results. Heck I can’t even say they’d work well as a highlighter of sorts as color just doesn’t transfer well. I tried picking up with the enclosed puff, with the brush, with my own brush as well as swirling a kabuki in the hearts but sadly, nothing worked to get any color pay off.

Cute factor wins out here as the adorable heart shaped pieces are adorable! Physicians Formula is a heck of a lot more generous with these as well considering Etude House only included ten hearts but there at least twenty here! The sweet scent of violet supposedly provides a feeling of joy each time you apply….Mmm well, I didn’t feel any joy applying but sure did find myself smiling at the hearts!

Overall, they have a great idea here and the golden pearl bronzing hearts are simply stunning however, they are too sheer to get excited about sadly. Perhaps if you nail them on sale? But damn it would have to be a great sale!

Sorry hate to burst your bubble but I don’t think you need them. Well, that is, if you can force yourself not to buy something so incredibly cute.

Own ’em?

Do share!

I purchased this item.

I bought it and I was so excited but yeah kind of hard to use. I have to super swirl a brush and add on top of my highlighter to give it some oomph…well i think it does even though I cant tell the difference LOL!

    • the Muse

shans I did much the same, I applied cheek stain under it and thought that would help but really didn’t do much at all!

    Dear Physician’s Formula,
Eliminate the useless brush and lower the price of your products. Please!
    Love, Louise

    😉

sorry L. seems I somehow didn’t include (and deleted) the swatch photo…will update shortly.

  • BLee

Awww, no glow at all? 🙁 Very sad to hear. I was hoping for a nice glow for the skin as it is still winter time and we sure could use some glow. LOL 😀 Thanks for the review, Muse.

    • the Muse

none very sheer…le sigh! even with blush under it can’t get any real glow! 🙁 sorry blee! my pleasure! hope your week is going well long time no speak!

Totally agree! Did get it on sale at CVS and had a coupon. Honestly still not worth the few bucks. So darn cute I still use and forget how disappointing because it is so deceivingly pretty.

Aww, you didn’t like this, Muse? I mean, it’s not the most pigmented bronzer, but I like to swirl a big fluffy brush and dust it all over my face and down my neck. It warms up my complexion and adds a tiny bit of a glow without turning me orange. And since it’s called a bronzing veil, that’s kind of what I expected of it.

Oh, and I got mine packaged with 2 eye kohls (which I know you didn’t like either, but I like those too, strangely enough. Usually I think your reviews are spot on)for $10 at WalMart. Not too bad for 3 products that I like and use pretty much daily now.(:

    • the Muse

I’d be happy with a little glow Kenzieee but it was very sheer on me unfortunately 🙁 I’m glad you liked both though and GREAT deal too!

  • Miho Mallory

Hmm well I don’t use bronzers because they are all too dark, just too much color on me because I’m so fair skinned. So maybe I would like this! owo b

I’m glad I read this review. I was thinking about picking one up based purely on the fact that they look like marshmallows. But that’s just silly. 😛

  • Amanda

I also bought this cause it was just too darn cute to pass up. Wasn’t impressed either and returned mine since it was so pricey for a drugstore product.

A few weeks ago I got a package in the mail and to my surprise this was what I found inside. I’m fairly sure Physician’s Formula sent it to me because I signed up for some club on their website a while back. I don’t think I would have bought it myself, but I will definitely find some use for it since it doesn’t work well as a bronzer on my face. I was thinking it might be useful as a body bronzer, at the very least it would add a tiny bit of shimmer and a nice scent.

  • Drunk’n’Gorgeous

Aww 🙁 Guess I’m gonna have to pass on these as well. As always thanks for your honest reviews Muse. Lots of love from Kuwait

  • Kara

I bought it as I also thought it was adorable. Same thing, couldn’t pick up color. I have now resulted it shaking the crud out of the container before opening it. That way I get some color…still not much. I am pretty disappointed.

      • Simone

When I bought this, I guess I put too much pressure on the puff, when I was screwing the lid shut, well, a couple hearts smushed! I was upset at first… Like way too upset lol, but it does help a lot with pigmentation. It just makes it easier for the brush to pick up product!

        Thought I’d share 🙂

        • the Muse

aw simone I totally can relate *pats your back* don’t worry it’s inly makeup 😀 I took to removing a heart swatching it on my face and blending it out hehe!

  • jcbg

I bought this on with a coupon in conjunction with one of those $3 off peelies… It’s super cute and adorable, and I like the smell! Yes, it’s very sheer, but I had expected that. I bought it more for the cute factor. 🙂 However, I’ve discovered it makes a nice, gold highlight for me. I don’t know what my MAC color would be, but I have a warm, Filipino complexion… if that is remotely useful to anyone, lol.

It’s not worth $14.99, even though it’s soooo cute, but great on sale!

  • Kimi

I’ll definitely pass this up. Such a shame as it is so adorable, but I can’t justify spending that much on a bronzer that won’t show up. I did enjoy the Sexy Booster bronzer though, and I got it on a great sale at CVS. 🙂

  • Krystle

I saw it at Walmart in a set that was this and two Kohl Kajal Eyeliners for $10. Needless to say, I bought it! I just couldn’t pass it up! It’s too adorable. It is a bit on the sheer side, even though I got the darker of the two shades, but I just use my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush and then go to town until I get the darkness I want (which doesn’t take much with the denseness of the bristles).
