Physicians Formula Super BB All-in-1 Beauty Balm Powder Review & Swatches
Not sure how many of you remember Physicians Formula Youthful Wear Cosmeceutical Youth Boosting Powder but it quite reminds of the new Physicians Formula Super BB All-in-1 Beauty Balm Powder recently launched for Spring 2013.
The beauty of both of these powders is the very handy brush they include. Physicians Formula doesn’t exactly have a great track record when it comes to including decent brushes with their products but in this case they succeed.
Take a peek!
I didn’t personally like Super BB All-in-1 Beauty Cream but if you have it and love it I think the Physicians Formula Super BB All-in-1 Beauty Balm Powder is an excellent way to set it.
If you already own the Youthful Wear Cosmeceutical Youth Boosting Powder I don’t think you necessarily need to indulge in the Super BB One as I feel like the Youth Boosting Powder as a superior formula.
This comes in a white compact with the powder on top and a mirror and small well for the brush on the bottom. They offer it in two shade selections of Light Medium and Medium Deep but honestly both shades are very similiar. Lucky enough I fit into Physicians Formula Light Medium shade range but many folks do not and that’s sad as you won’t be able to enjoy the products with such slim pickings in the shade department.
I find the formula of this powder is very similiar to many Asian (particularly Korean) Sebum Control Powder Foundations. It’s powdery, a little chalky, and has a matte finish. I think the Youthful one has a more silky texture in comparison and much nicer.
The brush is key here…! They include a super short bristled brush for application. I’ve likened using it to shaving my face. It’s odd! You simply stroke it across your face as if you’re shaving and it basically creates a flawless, airbrushed appearance. It’s quite an interesting brush and it’s one of the reasons the powder is such a hit with me. I can see this powder clinging to my patchy cheeks if I were to apply with a sponge or a bushier brush. However, the short bristles kinda apply and distribute a light dusting that creates a soft, smooth appearance even on my drier areas. If Physicians Formula sold these brushes alone, I’d buy them for all my powders!
The powder is sheer and will work best to set the new BB Cream cream released in this collection. You can however, wear it alone, as foundation of sorts if you don’t have a ton to conceal. It evens out skin tone and perfects quite nicely leaving skin looking flawless.
It contains an SPF 30 however, I am all about applying liberal sunscreen prior to any makeup application. SPF in powder just seems pointless to me.

The wear time varies for me as over BB Cream it’ll set for at least six hours before needing a touch up but on its own it seems to fade within a four to five hour period (that’s on dry skin).
Overall, I liked Physicians Formula Super BB All-in-1 Beauty Balm Powder but I prefer the silkier texture of Physicians Formula Youthful Wear Cosmeceutical Youth Boosting Powder. This is a tad chalky and a bit powdery and I didn’t really love that texture on a whole. It just feels like too many Korean powders I own already and never use.
This is available now at drugstores for $13.95.
