Queen Helene Mint Julep Natural Facial Scrub Review

Queen Helene Mint Julep Natural Facial Scrub

Earlier last week I raved Queen Helene Cocoa Butter Natural Facial Scrub so folks started asking me if I tried Queen Helene Mint Julep Natural Facial Scrub…but of course! Outside of the Cocoa Butter one the Mint Julep is a fav as well (although I find the Cocoa Butter one a touch more hydrating).

If your flaky skin needs exfoliating but you don’t want to drop an expensive dime on one, well, grab this little guy up for as little as four dollars and get happy, glowing, soft skin for less!

This has a herbally mint scent that’s very refreshing and pleasant. The texture quite resembles the Cocoa Butter in texture but seems to have a grainier texture (they are actually ground walnut shells). It contains Natural Cocoa Butter as well and from what I can see, other than the scent, it’s almost identical to the Cocoa Butter Scrub in ingredients and texture.

I still seem to like the Cocoa Butter formula better for some reason. I find it more hydrating this could be because the texture of the scrubbing grains are more refined and smaller in the Cocoa Butter formula versus the Mint.

Either way, both work GREAT!

To use, simply wet your face, squeeze a small amount into your hands, and massage gently onto your face. Oily skin can use it a few times a week but drier might want to stick to once or twice a week.

It gently scrubs away flakes and dead skin cells reveal smoother, softer skin and adding a nice glow to my face. The mint isn’t irritating on my face in the least but rather has a cool, refreshing feel.

It’s so difficult to find cheaper exfoliators that work and don’t dry out skin further or strip them but I’ve had great success with Queen Helene scrubs!

Brilliant budget pick!

I love this stuff – I tried a bunch of expensive scrubs and found no improvement over this and the cocoa butter from QH. I really like how you swatch the texture of the product against your skin – it’s hard to convey skincare in a review and that helps a lot!

thanks saffron 😀 I’m glad to hear you think it is helpful! Love feedback like that! I love ’em too so cheap too!

  • Amy Amethyst

I just bought this one not too long ago but not really enjoying the scent. Gonna stick with the cocoa butter one!

I haven’t been able to find either one. I have tried Wally and target and Walgreens. Any other place I can look? And thanks for all your great reviews.

Sally Beauty! I got the scrub and matching mask there, and you really can’t go wrong with this Mint Julep line 🙂 The mask seriously rocks, and the scrub saved my skin during my finals week skin-freakout

I love this! It’s great at getting off dead skin w/o being too abrasive. Also Muse, do you have any suggestions for undeye concealer? I’m currently finishing off my Maybelline Instant Age Rewind, but find it drying and it wears off completely after two hours for me. Plus, the puffball applicator is ick. Thanks!

I have only tried the mint mask so far. I’m looking for a new scrub though so I might try this out!

Love These ! Bought both on drugstore.com last week after you’re review . The Cocoa butter one is very gentle .( I think I even like them better than the St . Ives ones ? )

Cheaper too ! I will continue using them …

i would love to try this but i’m very allergic to nuts and walnut shell powder to the face seems like a terrible idea

Elle, butting in here, but you might want to try the St. Ives Green Tea Scrub. I use it all the time. No nuts or shells, synthetic exfoliant beads. It smells great, is cheap and really gets the flakes off my skin.

i used it before but it didn’t do much for exfoliating my skin. it smelled nice though

I love the queen helene mint julep mask so this looks like a must try for me. I love brightening my dull skin by annihilating old skin.

I have super dry skin too Muse and I’m not liking the Sodium Laureth Sulphate in that scrub. What I’ve been using for the last few years (came back to it after straying) is Avalon Organics Exfoliating Enzyme Scrub Lavender. It’s a bit pricey is you buy it at Whole Foods etc ($20) but I get it for about $10 at vitacost.com. It’s got really fine scrubby things that don’t bruise your skin yet does a great job. You just have to not wet your skin too much before you scrub or the little scrubby things wont be as effective.

I do like Queen helene scrubs but I won’t buy them because I’m not terribly fond of the packaging. I wish they would make a flip top cap.

This version, I am falling in love already. It does soften and refresh after using it.
It also make my face look brighter and smoother and healthier apparence.
I think even sensitive skin would love it because of its fine beads and not too harsh to the skin. I recommended 🙂

Wooo, it looks amazing! I’ve been getting irritated by my St. Ives scrub (those things can really cut you!) and this seems like a great alternative.

  • j.d.

Love this brand cuz they are cruelty free!! 🙂
But i wish they have more good package 🙂

I use the clay mask and boy! Does it work miracles! It tightens and firms skin not too sure of the ckeansing since u don’t have much breakouts but I do like this products over St. Ives also. This mask must be better or excellent for oilier skin I left it on for the entire 20 and it dried out the sensitive skin around my nose. Next time I’ll reduce the timing to just letting it almost dry. But you can see the difference I do like them! Got it from Sally’s the round jar of clay.
