Aqualillies for Tarte Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder Review & Swatches

Aqualillies for Tarte Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder Summer 2013

You likely already have Tarte Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder in your stash but I know you’re going to want the Aqualillies for Tarte Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder anyway just for the packaging.

Who can resist such cute vintage-y packaging like this? Give your old pot to a friend and embrace this newly packaged version!

Tarte has teamed up with the Aqualillies, America‚Äôs most glamorous synchronized swimming group, to create their Summer 2013 Collection. These powerful, healthy, real women are the perfect (and first) muses for Tarte’s Summer launch!

Aqualillies for Tarte Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder1

The Summer Collection including the newly packaged Aqualillies for Tarte Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder ($29) features a pale mint green lid with coral accents. The pot quite reminds me of a vintage 60’s powder jar, like something you’d find on Mad Men. The inner sifter does pop off so you can enjoy the packaging well after the contents are gone by simply refilling it! It also features a single hole to sift powder out which I love as this is a good way to get powder out without making too much of a mess. Typically sifters contain several holes and dispense too much product. This single hole is an excellent way to live the “more is less” philosophy when it comes to setting powders like this!

I’ve reviewed Tarte Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder in a past post or two however, here’s a re-brief…

This is a silky perfecting powder that can be buffed onto skin after foundation or BB Cream application. It blurs the appearances of pores, fine lines, and imperfections while setting makeup. I realize the white shade can be intimidating to some but no worries it does not appear chalky on skin and has a transparent finish that perfect as it absorbs excess oil.

Tarte says it is powered by Amazonian Clay which acts as a skin balance by hydrating all skin types and mattifying while keeping skin looking flawless.

I also like using it to set my concealer by simply swirling a blending brush in it and swiping under my eyes. It gives a brightening appearance and sets my concealer for all day wear.

As Summer approaches this is the perfect way to keep your makeup fresh, long wearing, and beautiful!

The cute packaging is the cherry on top of this cake.

Loves.

It’s available now at tartecosmetics.com and launches shortly at major retailers.

Is it on your Summer wish list?

I own this in the traditional packaging and love it, but it has the same issue as every Tarte product I’ve tried, except the Gifted mascara: The packaging disintegrates – fast. My “Ten” cheek stain lost one of its gold beads within two weeks, and the remaining gold paint and all of the writing followed within months. This powder I’ve used since November, and all the writing on the lid is gone, with the design chipping badly. Even my “Clean Slate” tube is becoming unreadable. I don’t travel often with my makeup (and always use a cosmetic bag), and otherwise it sits in a basket on my dresser. I love the vintage look here but can’t imagine saving and reusing any Tarte packaging!

oh no sorry jane :( I don’t have the ten cheek stain tbh…and haven’t had this long enough to see any issues yet. I hope it keeps ok! thankfully my clean slate tube gets daily use but never had an issue with it ;-D

Do you prefer this one or the nars one?

    • 3/28/13 10:14 the Muse:

TOO vastly different products honey! this is loose, nars is a pressed and does something stupid flawless with my skin ;-D this produces similiar effects as in blurring of pores, setting, etc..but the nars one just erases any imperfections and creates instant smoothness ;-D

It sounds amazing. I am not really oily (little bit of shine in the tzone when its super hot and humid )but I like setting my makeup with powder and need something that won’t dry me out or accentuate my small wrinkles

          • 3/29/13 11:49 the Muse:

i don’t really have fine lines yet (only under my eyes) nor larger pores, except on my nose and also drier skin but it works super for me. I’m not really oily either I have the same issue as you if it is hot I am def oily but otherwise no ;-D I don’t really use powder to set so it surprises me I like it…especially considering the application method (don’t like putting powder on with a sponge or anything)…it perfects beautifully ;-D so I def think you’ll like it, very soft and smooth finish. if you buy, get it at sephora, so you have the option to return if you hate :)

SO I just made a nice haul at 20% off at Ulta! Got the Tarte Aqualillies palette, the new LORAC CC cream and some pretty spring nail polishes. LOVE when ulta has the 20% off presitge – they are quickly replacing sephora as my fave! Now, if they would just get NARS…..ooooh that would be dangerous!
