Clinique Chubby Stick Shadow Tint for Eyes

My review on the Clinique Chubby Stick Shadow Tint for Eyes is a long time coming but I’ve finally completed my testing with them! Good news as I know MANY of you were eager to hear about these.

These are a fantastic follow up to Clinique’s wildly popular Chubby Lip Balms and excellent marketing on Clinique’s part if you think about. I mean think about it, we all know and love the balms so of course, introduce a similiar product for eyes and we’re bound to get excited about it. Imagine if they did a blush pencil? Don’t tell me you wouldn’t run to your counter to grab a blush pencil…!

Launched in twelve shades these are $16 each (buy two and get free shipping at Clinique.com using code CHUBBY) so they fall rather nicely into a mid-range cosmetic lover’s budget. I feel the price is very reasonable and borders beauty budget and mid-range pricing.

Take a peek!

These are a chubby twist up pencil just like their the Chubby Lip Balms. They swivel up and down easily so no need for a sharpener. The rounded dome head of each pencil fits the contour of eyes beautifully which allows VERY, very easy, mistake-proof application plus that dome shape of the pencil means it’ll never go dull and will keep its uniformed shape over use.

The pencil is very well designed and ensures proper application each and every use. These are the type of shadows a two year old could apply for you and you’d coming out of it looking flawless. The color has a knack for looking smooth no matter how much you apply and they don’t tug during application which ensures an easy glide across lids. It’s a soft almost powder-y feel with a powder-like dry down on my drier lids. It’s weird but the pencil almost feels like a powder versus a cream texture as it just applies so smoothly and flawlessly and there isn’t any tackiness or dewiness to it, it virtually sets in seconds after application but still remains easy to build over should you desire. Colors vary but for the most part they provide sheer to borderline medium pay off and can be built for a smidge more intensity but….for the most part, I’d say they deliver a softer look so don’t expect super bold.

Wear time will vary but on my drier lids without primer I can get a crease-free wear without fading for a solid eight hours. They just don’t budge at all!

Overall, Clinique Chubby Stick Shadow Tint for Eyes is a very interesting product as although they are a cream shadow of sorts but they don’t act that way at all. Clinique somehow created a formula that’s one part cream, one part powder, and all awesome. They wear strong, they apply easily, and they look great. The funny thing about these is the minimal work involved in application! It’s all about smoothing it on your eye directly from the pencil and just going. No blending required! The dome shade of the pencil follows the natural curve of your eye, delivers color perfectly, and doesn’t require you to sit around and blend it out. It just flawless from from the get go.

A very interesting product that even cream shadow haters will love.

Muse Approved.

Do try a shade or two I think these will surprise you with their no nonsense formula that transforms lids with a wash of pretty color!

Available at Clinique counters or online at clinique.com

These are so beautiful! I think I need Whopping Willow- it looks great on you, BTW. Thanks for the swatches and review 🙂

    • the Muse

aw my pleasure jade and thank you! they are really pretty pencils!

  • Chelsea

I just got Lots o’ Latte – It’s great. I have ultra greasy eyelids, so I had a bit of creasing, but an excellent wear time, and good color payoff! I might have to pick up Whopping Willow!

    • the Muse

ya know I was going to mention in my review that I thought maybe they’d grease on oily lids so it’s good you confirmed…Mine are dry and it held well but I can imagine the formula having a few creasing probs on an oily lid.

      • Chelsea

It’s so weird, because the rest of my skin is really horribly dry, but I sweat easily and have a bit of a hooded lid, so I almost always get creasing, so I don’t hold that against any product. I used it with a primer today, and it eliminated the creasing issue, more or less.

        • the Muse

my sister has oily lids as well and she always has issues with most every single product. It’s def hard to test products and see how they wear when you have the issues, just good to know it at least worked with primer for you 😀 that’s good news!

        • Vi

Oh gosh Chelsea, I feel your pain. I’m the exact same way–super dry, fast-aging, flaky skin on my face, and impossibly greasy eyelids. It sucks. :/ What primer do you use, might I ask? I’ve tried Too Faced Shadow Insurance, and that does absolutely nothing for me (it also started separating in the tube–ick!).

  • Kimmwc03

I was waiting on your review and now I know I want to get Whopping Willow. I like that lip color you have on with it too. Is that one of the new Revlon lip butters?

    • the Muse

no kim, those are milani statement lipstick shades 😀 (can’t recall which ones exactly at the moment but review upcoming on those shades)….! 🙂

  • maryann

Oh, I think I’ll have to try these. Glad to hear there’s not much creasing on oilier lids. Mine aren’t super-oily, but they’re not dry either. Should be a good fit, and the colors are pretty.

  • Cj

Bountiful beige = AMAZINGGG I’ve been wearing it literally everyday since I bought it lol.

  • Tammie

I have 3 of these and I LOVE them. I hope they come out with more shades (taupe please!) in the future~~ Lavish Lilac is my favorite!

    • Chelsea

I have Lots o’ Latte, and it’s pretty taupe-y, if you don’t have that one.

      • Tammie

        I do, for that reason haha. I just want one even MORE taupe-y xD;;

  • Caroline

I have Ample Amber and Bountiful Beige and I love them both. Super excited for Clinique Bonus Time (which starts at Macy’s on the 25th) so I can pick up a few more shades and get some freebies, too! I think I will have to get Whopping Willow; it’s so pretty on you and I’m trying to work more green shadows into my routine. Great review!

    • the Muse

ooo caroline thanks didn’t know it was bonus time w00t! aw thanks!

  • Zuza

Muse, you look absolutely beautiful in olive one! Really suits you:)
I hope they gonna be in stock in Poland soo, so I can check them out;P
    btw, love your blog:)

  • Beth

Got the Lavish Lilac shade. Wears so beautifully, layers well, lasts all day. Not quite as opaque as the Color Tattoos though, in my opinion.

  • Shadia L.

Holy crap; Whopping Willow looks incredibly gorgeous on you! I know it’s creepy, but I cannot stop staring at those first two photos, lol. And it’s brilliant with that lip color! I’m far too hesitant to wear bold, bright lip colors, unfortunately, but these Chubby Stick Shadows look promising. Honestly, I wasn’t the slightest bit interested in them, but your review has me drooling over ’em. I really hope they add more colors to this range–especially a dark grey/black!

  • blueraccoon

I have Bountiful Beige and I like it a lot; it’s so easy to apply. I do think I got a bit of creasing without a primer but I have somewhat oily eyelids, so next time I’ll use a primer and I should be okay. I’m tempted to get more, maybe Whopping Willow and Ample Amber or Lavish Lilac. Or maybe I’ll just collect them all…

  • Joanna

Pink & Plenty is so pretty definitely need one 🙂 Love the pictorial illustration!

  • liyeun

Thanks for the swatches! Btw wat were the two lip color u had in ur first two pics??? I love pinks!!!

  • Libby61

I have the Amber, Lilac, Beige and Fudge…I love the ease of application these provide. I use my Nars Smudgeproof primer for all day wear. I have oily lids and these stay put for hours …just did a pre-sale at Macy’s for more colors. Muse you wear them all beautifully!

  • Missy Valentine

I got this in massive midnight and I just think its soooo flattering!!! I love your blog its so inspiring!!

I just started this blog and it would mean so much if someone would check it since I am just starting out in the beauty blogging world!!

These pencils are great. The brown one looks awesome.Your review makes me want to go out and get a couple of them right now. I don’t normally like eye shadow sticks like these, because I don’t want to agitate my mature eyelids. I need something like this that applies gently and easily.

  • Kathleen

LOOOOVVVEEE that lilac, it looks so complex and beautiful. I think my mom would like the green, so I’ll mosy on over to check that out on the 25th.

P.S. It was a welcome laugh, but I don’t think you meant to say below the swatches and above the face pics, “They just don’t budget”!

    Thanks for the review!

  • Ed Watson

This will be the perfect gift for my wife’s D&D. She has been asking me whether I can get her a set of eye shadows to match her evening gown at her company’s D&D. 🙂 And by the way, you look really good in those shades.

  • Aida

Massive Midnight looks so lovely! I might have to try it :). Thanks for sharing!

  • Jen

How nerdy am I if I keep reading “Whopping Willow” as “Whomping Willow”?
Still a lovely color, though :’D

  • Sarah

Thank you so much for taking pictures of you wearing the product! I’m convinced I need them now 🙂

  • Karena Acree-Paez

Muse – Thank you so much for the swatches!!! The green and purple shades look GORGEOUS on you!! WOW!!!

    • the Muse

you are most welcome Miss Karena and thank YOU! you’re too kind ;-D

  • ozzie

could this product be good for over age 50 women?i enjoy your reviews.
    have a nice day!

    • Isabella Muse

hi ozzie thanks so glad you enjoy them! They aren’t as creamy as some shading sticks so if you have crepy lids or drier skin you might find they tug a little bit during application!

  • Kimberly

I’m so late to the party on these. Having seen them mentioned in a video from Vivienna Does Makeup, I came to the Muse’s blog for the legit scoop 🙂 and am blown away at the beauty of all the shades on you. Truly gorgeous and am only sad I haven’t tried these before. Am ordering five of these shown on you and will gladly put away my Mally eye sticks and mercier Caviar sticks to enjoy these. Even almost two years later post still helpful and relevant and absurdly making me order nearly everyone. Thank u as always for being so reliable in offering us the best in opinions and info and pictures. Now to get the gorgeous skin of yours… Best always! Kim

    • Isabella Muse

awww kim wow what a great compliment so flattered 🙂 thank you so much <3! I'm so glad you liked these. They are so easy to use and great for quick but beautiful looks 🙂 thanks again for your beautiful comment, it made my day!

  • Christina

Thank you for this great review! I recently fell in love with chubby stick lipsticks and was wondering whether I should try the eyeshadow. Now I will 🙂 Fuller Fudge will be the one for me, I think…

  • Deanna Duncan

If you are like me and LOVE super shimmery eyeshadows ~ Would this be something I would like?

  • Sherry Solomon

Do you have a picture with lots of latte on your eyes? And I think there’s also a color it’s almost cream colored as a highlighter and wondered if you had that. This is very helpful but I want to make sure because I can’t get anything that flakes like a powder and this was recommended to me. Did it flake on you? Thanks very much
