Flower Color Play Creme Eyeshadow Review & Swatches

Flower Awesome Blossom Color Play Creme Eyeshadow

Flower Color Play Creme Eyeshadow are part of Drew Barrymore’s new Flower Makeup Collection available exclusively at Walmart. These cream shadows are a mere $7.98 and available in twelve shade selections.

Flower continues to please me with their offerings as not only are they budget friendly but quite high quality makeup. Being a fond fan of cream eyeshadow I was quite excited to give these a whirl.

Take a look!

Flower Color Play Creme Eyeshadow

Flower Color Play Creme Eyeshadow comes housed in a glass jar with a twist up tube. Flower’s packaging is quite simply chic without a ton of bells and whistles but still manages to look very feminine and pretty. Inside things do get messy…they have a small stopper on top of the shadow to keep it fresh I suppose but the shadow is so squishy and gooey that it was running over the sides of that stopper. Moral of the story, these don’t look exactly pretty when the cap is unscrewed.

But I promise they are brilliant.

The texture is a thick, creamy whipped up style mousse that glides onto lids easily and builds up equally easily. These are probably some of the friendliest cream eyeshadows I’ve ever worked with. A dab on finger tips blended out onto your eyes is all it takes to create a rather stunning eye look. I find they are fool proof and very easy to work with. The texture builds easily as well. Sometimes cream sahdows can go horribly wrong and blend out patchy or sheer out so my lid is showing but I had no such issues with these.

The shade I purchased was Awesome Blossom which is mauve brown. The shade has some shimmer but it’s very refined and wearable. These don’t dry down to a powder finish and they do remain a little dewy throughout the wear. I find they crease without primer and fade completely within a five hour period. So primer is key especially if you have oily lids. I think the hydrating texture of the product works for it as you can blend it and build, blend it and build, and never have to worry about it setting too quickly.

The pigmentation is excellent and produces very vivid color when built or a sheerer more refined color wash when applied lightly. Either way they look gorgeous. In my photo below I wore it lightly so I only applied a tiny amount and it still looks rather beautiful!

Overall, Flower Color Play Creme Eyeshadow is worth checking out. I really liked this formula and found it very easy to work with. Even if you dislike cream shadows I’d highly suggest trying them out as they are one of the easiest cream formulas I’ve had the pleasure of working with.

Have you tried the foundation? I got it a little while ago (don’t ask how I got it, I still have nightmares) and its actually really good, it definitely feels like it has a built in primer it sets almost immediately and gives medium coverage with a satin/matte finish. I can totally see this as like a one product out the door kinda thing.

    • the Muse

hey! no, just the BB Cream so far which I liked but odd color 🙁 LOL…wally world trip gone bad?!

      • Cj

Ugh I just don’t understand it, it’s like the creepiest people all go to walmart… Like a creepycon or something lol. You should totally try it, it’s really nice

@tammie EXACTLY! I was so happy when the shade was like a perfect match, noo they didn’t have the lightest color in the TM, how good are we talking? Is it worth another trip there lol xD

        • Tammie

It’s really good for a TM but I think if you are happy with the foundation you don’t REALLY need both. My skin has just been misbehaving lately and I thought maybe a little moisture would be helpful..

It’s worse than a trip to the DMV! Like a circus side show. I don’t get it either. Two miles down the road the Target has nice, normal, well grommed customers. I have to gather all my mental strength to go to Wallys and feel like I need a good scrubing when I get home.

    • Tammie

Isn’t it just wonderful? I love that they have a shade pale enough even for us lol.

PS. You should also try the Tinted Moisturizer, it’s really nice too!

  • Liza

I have this in Midnight Garden and LOVE it!! It’s an absolutely perfect deep charcoal grey with subtle silver/irridescent shimmer. Even my husband said he liked my eyeshadow when I wore it (we’ve been married 7 years and I’m pretty sure that was a first!). Like you said, it does require a primer, but other than that, this stuff is pretty much perfect. I can’t wait to snag a few more shades.

    • the Muse

yay liza happy to hear it chica 😀 it’s always nice when a man (hub, bf, etc) compliments our makeup hehe ;D

  • Audrey

I find cream eye shadows always make my Tarte pen liner skip, then cease to work altogether. Any tips on what kind of an eyeliner to use with cream shadows? p.s. – the shade is absolutely gorgeous on you!

    • the Muse

have you tried powdering your eye first, applying shadow, than lining? that works for me ;-D Thanks Audrey! <3!

      • Audrey

I’ve never tried that technique before! Would the powder go over or under primer? Thanks for the tip, Muse!

        • the Muse

typically I apply lemon aid first, my primer second, and with a blending brush a small amount of powder (very sheer layer). I like Skin Food Salmon Powder 🙂 (under eyes too!)

  • Tammie

Really loving Flower Cosmetics stuff…so much so that I end up going to Walmart far more than I’d prefer :x.

I bought one when they first came out, and just picked up another yesterday. They are really beautiful, very dimensional color. Almost too pretty to be used as a base. They come in a large variety of really gorgeous colors.. in fact more colors than are offered in the shadow quads including three greens. The application was much easier than I expected, they do not smear.. blend out really well. Work well with a brush and are very pigmented, it only takes the slightest bit to achieve full coverage. With a good primer I had no problems when used with shadow, but alone I did have some very slight creasing at about the seven hour mark. The “stopper” is a bit of a pain because the product sticks to it, I usually just use the product stuck to the stopper to apply. If you twist first before you pull the stopper out it helps reduce the amount that adheres. I usually use my creme shadows for bases, and I prefer the Maybelline CT’s for that, they can be applied in a sheer layer and “support” the shadow without overwhelming it.. these really are better as shadows on their own, or with some shadow as accents… which is why I only have two of them, due to the formula I just do not feel they are as versatile as the CT’s, and I do not feel that I can rely on them as much to perform 100% over the course of the day. If they release more powder shadows I would probably pick up more as “companions” to the quads.

  • Kiss & Make-up

Ack! Doesn’t look pretty in the jar. Does look pretty on your eyes 🙂

    • the Muse

no it doesn’t 😀 kinda gross! but thanks 😀 I think it wears nicer than it looks in the pot!

  • Victoria

I love them too, I have the same shade and mum’s the word. I always wear a primer with any shadow anyway, with a primer these are just wonderful even on their own. I toss out the stopper, i see no use for them and find them a bother. the product is just fine without it, I don’t find them drying out and I find the lid secure enough. I also love the rose gold detail of the packaging. I wish she would come out with new shades in the future.

  • Linda

I liked everything about these except that they faded even with primer on my in a few hours. i won’t be buying anymore. I also tried the powder eyeshadows and while I totally loved the colors they were just to powderey. They had a ton of fall out. When I put them in the crease they would get into the inner corners of my eyes and make it look as if I had darkness there. I love the matte lipstick in Petal kiss. It’s the perfect nude for me and loved the cream blush as well.

    • the Muse

i haven’t tried the powder ones yet linda, I was curious about them but might skip if they are powdery 🙁

  • Tiffany

I’ve tried the lavender colored cream shadow and I didn’t like it. I felt like it never dried and was too thick for me. I prefer the color tattoo by maybelline consistency. I do love how they have so many colors that are different from other brands.

I just purchased Orchid-ing Around and can’t wait to try it! The shades are gorgeous and I’m glad I made a good choice. 😀

I wish I had a Walmart near me so that I can check this out. The eye shadow looks adorable and fun to work with.

Hi Muse! Been so busy at work…going to catch up on your blog this weekend. These remind me of the YSL shadow pots that i love. Love the color on you. I have green eyes so it might work for me too. I get up at 4:30am to drive to downtown LA by 6:30 and I am loving the Clinique Chubby eye sticks for quickie make up application.I will try these too with my Nars Smudgeproof Eyeshadow primer. Have a great week. 🙂

    • the Muse

hi libby! I know the feeling well! Hope you had a pleasant weekend. I’m still testing out the clinique chubby pencils ;-D glad to hear you like! YOU too!

  • Ana

I got this shade and love it! I’d describe it as a beautiful brownish-cranberry shade. I also got Orchid-ing Around which is a stunning medium greyish-violet… I’ve been waiting for a drugstore dupe of the similar les ombres de Chanel creme shadow shade and this is pretty similar! I also got one of the glossy chubby pencils in a berry color based on your review for that product 🙂 Love love all the products… it was worth braving the shady crowd at Walmart – I hate shopping at Walmart in my town! 😛 Almost picked up the BB cream based on your review but it seems to have some pore clogging ingredients (Laureth-4 & others). Thanks as always for the reviews! <3

    • the Muse

ana so happy to hear your success with flower. I def think it is a worthy line to face walmart for hehehe ;-D So happy you purchased some of the products thanks to my reviews and enjoyed ’em 😀

    • the Muse

not really adel, the lustrous shadows are very very shimmery…these don’t have as much shimmer and the texture is smoother.

  • Megan

I have this color, too, and I love it! I’m also glad you included a close up of your eyes, it makes it a lot easier to see the product in action 🙂

  • lily

I have the about face foundation and the lipstick in camellia charm (white packaging one). I LOVE the foundation, it a drugstore dupe for KVD lock it tattoo foundation that is always out of stock. Been wearing it every single day! I don’t like the lipstick as a lipstick lol but its amazing as cream blush! This formula really should be a cream blush or at the very least a color stick. Its creamy and the color is matte and it has a matte finish and a matte feel on the lips which I don’t like. And I find that on the lips, the formula tends to separate and it doesn’t play well with glosses or lipbalms because the formula again…separates. But as cream blush….OMG holy grail status. I put it on over the flower beauty about face foundation and set it with powder and it did not move the entire day and looked fresh and flawless. Such a pretty color!

    • the Muse

no kidding lily? I haven’t tried it but love kvd lock it so def will try! Interestinggggggggggggg maybe these will work as a cream blush ha ;-D thanks for the idea!
