Take a peek!

Hard Candy Lip Def Spring 2013

Hard Candy Lip Def is marketed as a super shiny lip color with 3D Pearls that create the illusion of volume. You might recognize the packaging on these as they resemble Hard Candy’s Eye Def Liquid Eye Shadow. Same concept with a sponge tip applicator application.

I only tried one shade so far which is Midnight Stroll, a bright violet purple. This has a shimmery pearlescent finish with very subtle color pay off. Granted I only tried the one shade but if the formula is consistent on all the colors we’re in for some disappointment.

This has a thick silicone-like texture that wraps lips in an uncomfortab heavy emollient gloss. It isn’t tacky or sticky but it is quite heavy. The formula would actually prove ok and I could cope with the heaviness if they applied well. Unfortunately the color is sheer and very patchy so you have moments of purple on some areas of your lip with skin showing through on other areas…it’s just NOT a pretty look.

Hard Candy Lip Def Swatches

The wear time is fairly good as the gloss wraps around lips and hangs around well. It remains fresh throughout the wear and you can head into at least three to four hours in before it starts fading away.

I’m going to go ahead and try a few more shades when I locate these at Walmart because it could be this shade was the exception to the formula. However, I’m not holding out hope. I think the formula just isn’t a pleasant one. A little too thick, a little too heavy, and the patchiness, ugh!

This is available now at Walmart.

Any scent to these? The swatch looks good though! I was thinking it was going to be super sheer but when I scrolled down to the swatch it wasn’t all that bad.

a weird plastic grape tina. :-/

  • 3/7/13 19:30 Spooki:

I was disappointed by how sheer this was. The display signage gave the impression that it was more of a liquid lipstick than a sheer gloss. It’s nice to layer over purple and pink lipsticks though. It does wear well and leaves a sliiiiight stain on my lips.

The grape candy taste is kinda gross but I can ignore it.

yeah the taste wasn’t so fab spooki nor the quality of the product :( I didn’t get the staining effect wish I did! It’s a very sheer product and my lips show through so it kinda looks patchy and uneven :(

i got this color as well, and excitedly so, considering that beautiful color. then i tried it and…. wah-wah. lol. that happens a lot with their cosmetics. the only things that i like are their nail polish and the glamoflage concealer. i think thats a great product. i also got a couple of the new nail polishes which are okay. havent tried any of the other new stuff though….

aaaa.. I think I am going to try it. I love new products..

  • 3/8/13 12:59 Vi:

Well, there’s hope yet…I’ve heard a lot of people say that purple lippies in general tend to be patchy/streaky, no matter how good the other shades in the line are. Not sure why, but I hope that’s the case with this one!

    • 3/8/13 13:05 the Muse:

vi kinda hopeful it’s just this shade and others are better!
