Maybelline Gold Fuse Blush Review & Swatches

Maybelline Blush Gold Fuse

Maybelline Blush in Gold Fuse is the last of three limited edition blushes I’ve been reviewing for you this month that Maybelline launched with the So Electric Collection.

Gold Fuse happens to be my least favorite since it is sheerer than the other blushes in this launch. I mean when you have a killer blush like Coral Burst and you’re following up with Gold Fuse on the back burner, well, you can imagine it feels a little lacking.

Take a look!

This shade is available for a limited time so if you like the looks of it I do urge you to pick it up as soon as possible before it disappears for good.

This happens to be the most shimmery of the three blushes that Maybelline launched. It has a high golden sheen that gives a very pretty glow to cheeks. The beige almost bronze shade has a pretty golden under tone and swatches beautifully but unfortunately doesn’t translate as nicely on skin.

Personally it feels like a ton of shimmery sans any really color so your best bet is to use it as an overcoat of sorts by applying a sheer layer of your favorite cheek stain on cheeks and followed up with a sweep of this for the best results.

The formula is soft, silky yet powdery as it does kick up a good deal of blush when a brush is swept across it. It blends easily but as I mentioned produces more of a shimmery glow versus any major color. If you’re super fair it might just work well for you but those with medium fair, medium, or darker skin tones won’t find it pigmented in the least.

At this price, around $5 and some change at Harmons, it might be worth picking up as the pretty glow it lends cheeks can be very nice so long as you can get on board using it as a highlighter of sorts and not a full blown blush.

It’s available now at drugstores.

Anyone haul it?

Hey Muse! I knew I should have trusted my gut on this one, but Maybelline and L’Oreal have this great sales pitch — let’s release LE products — which compels ladies like me to have to buy said LE item before it disappears! You know I love the Coral one, and also bought the purple one because I love purple, but I knew this would be too light for my coloring. I guess I will use it on top of a bright blush to tone down for day time looks.

As an FYI I went to “my” Harmon’s yesteray and they were in the midst of taking down the old and putting up new permanent displays. One display which was completed and completely new is Prestige, and I indulged in several High Intensity Duochrome Eyeshadows; they are really gorgeous. There were also new NYX displays, but as nice as the new products look I will not purchase any cosmetics made in China.

I think I will be making another trip today to see what else is new…

LOL christina tell me about it ;-D damn LE products. I don’t like this one or the purple nearly as much as the coral. Both are merely layering colors with a ton of shimmer, I mean the purple is better than this but still not as great as the coral. Interesting!!!!!!! must get over there when I get a chance! thanks for the heads up. Hopefully they get the new L’Oreal bb blush ;-D I want to try that so badly!

As an aside, I finally scored the four new Revlon lip butters although I’ve not yet had a chance to try them. Also in the display were two eyeshadow quads (I hauled one), a white gel eyeliner, and those baby color stick things which are supposed to double as blush or lip gloss. I don’t really like double-duty products — I am not putting it on my lips then my cheeks or vice versa. They were kind of pricey too for as small as they are. So happy about the lip butters!

    • the Muse

AHHHH I need those 😀 I guess a road trip is in order ;-D unfortunately haven’t had success finding that display yet ;-D

      • Janelle

what?! what new lip butters?! Why is the first that I am hearing about these. I have the worst chapped lips and can only do super creamy emollient lippies. Are these LE? I need these I need more lip butters!

        • the Muse

they are the regular revlon lip butter range but now are available in four new shades 🙂 not LE, but from my understanding becoming part of the regular collection!

  • Christina

Oops! My bad…should have mentioned that I found the Revlon display at CVS and not Harmon’s.

  • Christina

There are several in New Rochelle and the nearby areas. I found this display at the 24 hour location on Boston Post Road, so maybe the busier stores are getting the displays up first. I spotted it last Friday so it’s probably going to be at all CVS’ soon.

    • the Muse

the boston post road I know is white plains!? I’m bad with New Rochelle area 😀 Mapquest please guide me to the new makeups! LOL! 😀 thanks chica!

    Hey Muse ,

I bought all 3 LE Maybelline blushes and love them ! This Gold one I use as an eyeshadow
    and it looks great …
Like a coppery bronze shimmer w/ no irritation as I am very sensitive to eyeshadows…

    • the Muse

hey celine happy to hear it hun! I’ll have to try as a shadow!

  • Janelle

I am using this as a highlighter and all week people have told me that I have been glowing. I scored an extra one of these yesterday at Walgreens. Walgreens is more expensive but it was B1G1 50% off so I figure it is relative (I saved 25% on each which brings the price in line with some of the cheaper stores).

  • Christina

Muse, let me know if you need directions but I don’t think it will be necessary. I stopped in another CVS (not in New Rochelle) today and they have the Revlon display. I think you should be able to find the Revlon dislpay without needing Mapquest!

    • the Muse

which other cvs Christina? hehe…I think I should be able to find it 😀 I’m horrible with directions thank god for gps :-D!

  • Christina

The other CVS is at 1310 Boston Post Road in Larchmont, also a 24 hour location. BTW the New Rochelle 24 hour CVS is technically listed as 309 Main Street, but Main Street is also known as the Post Road (which does run through White Plains).

    • the Muse

thanks chica!!!!!!!! Gonna try and get over there later in the week ;-D you’re like my drugstore sleuth 😀

  • Christina

Just want you to know so that you don’t go too far out of your way that I stopped in the New Rochelle CVS last night and the display was GONE. I assume it was wiped out so they removed it. But check your local CVS since the new stuff seems to be surfacing everywhere.

    • the Muse

thanks chica! and I was plotting a run up tonight you totally saved my butt! I was going to hit up Trader Joe in the area and try to locate the CVS as well so that saves me a trip 😀 thanks! I checked Bed, Bath, and Beyond last night but no luck and a CVS. I’ll keep hunting! They blushes got poor reviews but I still want to try ;D

  • Christina

I did read some poor reviews for the blushes too but the deal was sealed when I saw them. I kid you not they are so tiny (about the size of my thumb) and at about $10.49 each, so not cheap.

    • the Muse

ewwwwwwwwwwww I blame cvs though! there prices are OBSCENE! bet they are like $5 and change at Harmons when they arrive!

      • isabella

        Yes
and they only feature Buy get one half off now. Didn’t used to be that way.

Oh well thank goodness for my beloved Harmon 🙂

  • isabella

i bought this gold blush today @ Harmon after looking at the price @ CVS, it’s half the price at Harmon 10.99 in CVS.* Also remember you can use your BBBeyond coupons there too

*I remember when CVS used to be “cheap”.
