Maybelline Orange Edge Vivids Lipstick Review & Swatches
So I’m under the illusion I can wear orange lipstick and Maybelline’s new Orange Edge Vivids Lipstick is one of my new favs. Launched with the Goes Electric Spring 2013 Collection this shade is available for a limited time at drugstores now. It came home with me after I recently discovered it at Harmons.
I slathered it on and posed in front of my upstairs bathroom mirror for about 30 minutes pepping myself to go outside with it on. I walked down the stairs to the door, almost made it outside, and ran back into the kitchen to grab a tissue and wipe it off.
So maybe the illusion I can wear orange lipstick is all in my head…but someday I will make it outside with shades like this on my mouth!
The Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids Lipstick Collection has been quite surprising for me. Not only are the shades something I’d normally not go for but also the cream finish formula is something I’d typically avoid at all costs. But most of these shades sport a highly creamy formula with excellent full color coverage and a lightweight finish that’s quite comfortable to wear.
The colors are stunning to say the least especially for a five or so dollar lipstick at the drugstore. You just don’t get this kind of pigment from drugstore lipsticks especially in such bolder, unique shades. Orange Edge is a neon orange that resembles Sephora’s + Pantone Universe Color of the Year Creme Lipstick but has a far better bolder color pay off. The color reminds me of a lighter tangerine orange-y shade.
Pop of Cherry, Orange Edge, Infra Red
Although creamy in texture it does accentuate flakier, drier lips so you’ll want to be sure to prep well prior to application for the smoothest appearance. I don’t particularly love cream finishes so I like slicking on some clear gloss for a bit more pop. I think you’ll agree the clear gloss really adds something to the finish.
Overall, I haven’t quite braved the outdoors with Orange Edge on my lips but I love the shade and think it’ll be quite flattering on a darker skin tone for the upcoming Spring and Summer season!
If you’re wanting to embrace orange this is a cheap way to do so with excellent pigment and a fairly lovely formula!
