Revlon Wild Watermelon Colorburst Lip Butter

Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Wild Watermelon is one of the last new shades (and the best) from the Summer 2013 Collection that I’ll be reviewing for you.

As they say, save the best for last. Wild Watermelon has the best formula of the four new shades Revlon introduced however..there was an issue.

Ok, so we established that these new shades might not be limited edition! Check your local Target as many reader’s reported seeing new slots for all four colors in the regular display. Or check CVS (that’s where I got mine) for a special display that features these colors as well as the new Baby Sticks Blusher, new eye quads, as well as polishes.

Wild Watermelon is the MOST pigmented of the four shades launched. I’ve already mentioned in my prior reviews that these colors had an inconsistent formula with the original but Wild Watermelon doesn’t suffer the same issue. Although it lacks the creaminess of the original formulation it still has excellent pigmentation and more of a balmy finish with a high sheen. Needless to say the formula is just as good as the original if not a little different. Particularly the pigment of the shade is excellent with full opaque coverage.

Wild Watermelon is a slightly odd name as the color is more of a reddish tangerine. It’s a wearable color though so don’t be frightened of how loud it is.

Now I mentioned above issues with it…sadly, it’s VERY melty….I applied and it proceeded to break off on my lips in a rather large chunk. This is the second time I had a problem with the tip breaking off as I experienced the same problem with Pink Lemonade.

Le sigh!

I was terribly disappointed as I liked the shade and now it’s quite messy and I haven’t been able to yet locate another one.

Outside of this, Wild Watermelon proved the best of the four shades and I do recommend a pick up! Hopefully though the breakage is a fluke!

I purchased two of them in the shades Sorbet & Wild Watermelon, but I didn’t have the melty problem & I accidentally left it in the car all day when it was super hot! I was surprised they didn’t melt since my older lip butters melted being in the car on a hot day. Wild Watermelon is very nice though 😀

Happy to hear it! pink lemonade and watermelon had the issue sadly 🙁 must be a fluke for me!

  • Angie

I have this one as well as the papaya – it did not melt on me at all – hopefully another one will do better for you, Muse!!

    • the Muse

hey angie! could be a fluke, this shade and pink lemonade ended up snapping on me ;D

  • Anjie Scheuren

I wonder if you got part of a bad batch? I bought Sorbet and Wild Watermelon at Ulta last week and mine were pretty solid…

    • the Muse

it’s possible anjie! just glad you didn’t experience the same!

    • the Muse

thankfully papaya survived for me but not pink lemonade 🙁 it snapped!

If you contact Revlon customer service, they’re great about fixing issues with products. One of my lip butters did the same thing, and they sent me a ten dollar Revlon coupon.

  • jennifer szymanski

No, I did not pick that one up. I got the juicy papaya and sorbet. I still cannot figure out if the like them. I like the original creamy lip butters better.

  • Simone

This was the only shade I was really interested in. Unfortunately, I’ve only spotted Juicy Papaya (which I got…just to have it, really).
Happy to hear this doesnt suffer from the same issues as the others, minus the meltyness. So weird.

That color looks great on you! It really brightens up your whole face!

  • Alexis

It’s a beautiful shade! Maybe this will finally give me a reason to use my lip brush (even though the breakage was an unfortunate fluke).

  • CHASE!

That shade looks wonderful on you! After seeing your first few reviews I was tempted to just brush these off but this one I may need to partake in ;D

  • Rebecca

I think you got a funky batch because mine is not like that AT ALL. My tube of wild watermelon has a similar texture/pigmentation as tutti frutti.

I was actually quite surprised in your post with the swatches because of how thick the swatch of wild watermelon was.

    • the Muse

yea the tip broke off rebecca so the swatch was SUPER pigmented lol! sorry about that 🙂

  • Lulubelle

Makes you wonder if Revlon forgot/mislaid the original formula. Why mess with something that was so successful?

  • Cindy Ramirez

I’ve really steered clear of these new colors because of your reviews. It takes a lot of willpower for me to do that involving lip butters!

Also I was at target sometime last week and I saw a L’Oreal display with their new pastel nail polishes and they had some new lippy colors that were really pastel. They had a blue one! Have you heard about/seen these yet? I almost picked up the blue one just because it was so unique!

  • Leslie

Weird, I just found it here this morning, and I thought the shade looked nothing like how it swatched for you – not a reddish tangerine at all, but more like a slightly orangish fuschia. Very pink, though, which I can’t really do – I need more of an orange or brown. 🙁

    • the Muse

orange-y fuchsia? really? I get more red tangerine from it 🙁 so sorry Leslie 🙁

  • Tennyoceres

Strange that a watermelon ‘color’ turns into something more tangerine. Well I’m glad I picked this up anyway. Certain days cool tones work on me best, other days warm.

Don’t throw away the broken chunks! Spread with a butter knife or gently melt under a well lit window the chunks into a small empty tin (like an Altoids mini tin). There you go you have a portable lip balm in a cute container and no wasted product.

    • the Muse

how’s it look on you tenny? more red/tangerine or pink? curious minds ;-D I actually did just that 😀 I didn’t melt it near a window I did however put it a small pigment container (always have these around to decant piggies into) and use a lip brush to apply ;-D

  • Sara

I hate when lipsticks melt and get everywhere. By the way, are you going to swatch the other WnW spring palette? I’m so jealous that you have them. They haven’t shown up where I live yet.

  • Michelle

I have every shade. I know what you mean about the ‘melty’ issue!
