Beauty on a Budget: Nivea Lip Butter

Nivea Lip Butter

Y u so damn elusive Nivea Lip Butter? Seriously Nivea Lip Butter is as difficult to locate as the Ark of the Covenant.

From reviews I read they sound like a great little budget lip balm.

I imagine the tin packaging won’t be terribly appealing to most (myself included) but the formula on these sounds amazing and promise a hydrating, lip soothing, softening formula with a hint of flavor.

Available in the following flavors:

  • Caramel Cream Kiss
  • Vanilla & Macadamia Kiss
  • Raspberry Rose Kiss
  • Smooth Kiss

These are $2.99 each and can be found at Ulta and Ulta.com

I know certain drugstores have had them too but sadly I haven’t located them anywhere even though I stalk the drugstore like I live there.

Anyone try ‘em?

Do share!

These are EVERYWHERE here. Even my university sells them! They sell for 3.99, so they’re a bit more expensive. I personally don’t like them, though.

A couple months ago these were scarce as hen’s teeth; now even walmart has ‘em. Maybe try to scope them out there – CVS always has them, so try to find them there? This is embarassing, but I haven’t even tried them yet!!

They should be at Walgreens! I work at one and ours are now on a permanent display next to the Nivea lotions, and it should be the same for most Walgreens, I think. :)

I have the Smooth Kiss one, and I LOVE it. It is so creamy and rich, not at all greasy. The only downside is that it leaves a white cast on my lips, almost like a lipbalm with SPF would. I just use it before bed, so I can moisturize without anyone seeing my ghost lips!

Have three of these (Raspberry, Vanilla & Macadamia, & Smooth Kiss), love them. If you have to get one, get the Vanilla & Macadamia nut, smells like cookies or like Kinder Surprise chocolate. I think they’re on sale at Walgreens for like 1.99 this week, and I know Target has a web coupon for these out right now. I’ve had one of these in my pocket at all times since I got them.

I have the caramel cream. I joke ye not. It’s so awesome that I do not care about the packaging at all. And the pot is so big around that I don’t use my finger. I take off the lid and just rub the whole damn thing on my mouth. It’s amazing!

I got caramel cream kiss in a giveaway (the company was supposed to send it to me before they were released, but it showed up the day of Lol!). They sent Caramel Cream Kiss, and it’s so yummy! Judging by the caramel, and from what I’ve heard about the others, they all smell exactly like their named, so I’d pick up whichever scent u like best! They all leave a veryyyy slight milky cast (that’s my only conplaint) but I do really enjoy this little pot, and will likely try a different scent once I’ve finished this one… Which will be forever from now since I have such an obnoxious stash of lip balms! Oy vey!

I found them at CVS–i got the macadamia kiss…honestly i would really stay away from them. not hydrating at all and leaves white milky cast on the lips. it just did nothing to hydrate at all i’ll be reviewing it soon!

I’ve tried these and they’re alright. I think they might be slightly overhyped. I dislike finger into lipbalm things anyway but I love my Nivea Milk & Honey and gave these a shot. They’re not bad, just not amaaaaazing either (imo ofc!) and I found them in CVS at Union Sq and my local Target in Flushing had em! They were by the lotions so perhaps better luck there? Good luck on your mission to find them, Muse!

    • 4/19/13 3:49 Sydni:

I couldn’t put my finger on why they smelled a little weird but that describes it perfectly. Artificial! The smells are alright but don’t smell very much how they ate described.

    • 4/19/13 8:40 Teasha:

They all go on white if you apply a normal amount, if you apply a little bit they don’t. I have the 3 scented ones, the scents disappear once applied, and they taste like nothing. I don’t know why people describe the ‘flavors’ as yummy. They are petro based, which has it uses. They are similar to all scented vaseline products imo. If someone likes rosebud salve and that kind-of thing, these will be amazing. If not, these probably aren’t for you.

Ugh, I just hate potted lip balms. I love the Nivea balm formulas but they’re nothing special and I prefer the tubes. I can’t see why anyone would need 12948324 different types when they’re completely sheer, lol.

  • 4/19/13 8:03 Heather:

I agree that tin/pot/tub type packaging for any face/lip cream is not hygienic. Pumps are best hey. Come to think of it though perhaps lipsticks are not either… I did throw out a whole heap recently… and my mascara’s were grossing me out too so I got rid of most of them. More excuses to buy new stuff. Although the great thing about the packaging is it’s like the old fashioned tinned packaging for their famous nivea creme. It also matches the packaging from the tiny nivea cremes that come from those vending machines. It’s super cute packaging. They are like little disks. I won a pack of 3 from a prize recently. I got caramel creme, vanilla/macadamia and unscented. Unscented is absolutely boring but I guess great for someone who wants a creamy lip balm with no scent. I love caramel creme the best. They smell super delicious!!!!!!!!!! They are super creamy too…kinda come off creamy looking on the lips though so you can only use a small amount and rub it in well. We don’t have the raspberry one, that looks nice.

I absolutely hate these lip butters. I picked them up after alot of youtubers raved about them. They are way too buttery and waxy and leave a weird film on the inside of your lips. I couldn’t justify throwing them away so I gave them to my sister. I don’t understand the hype, these are awful!!!

I liked the Raspberry -Rose lip balm.. its texture is very buttery ( true to name) but it kinda stays on your lips for a LONG time.. like seriously.. it is supposed to get absorbed into the lips. But it just stays there.Anyone else had that issue?
But its good for layering lipcolors as it holds onto the color giving a nice stain effect.

Yes. I have that problem. I’m not a fan of these. The more I use them, the less I like them. I hate the white cast. Anyway, nivea lip butters are full of petro chemicals, a by-product of drilling for oil. Petrolatum, petroleum, whatever name they go by, it is a product that does not sink into skin. It provides a barrier on top of the skin and holds moisture in, like a salve. So, it does not hydrate, if you want something to hydrate and sink into the skin, best look elsewhere…or find a really hydrating balm without petrolatum or mineral oil, add a layer or two of that, wait for it to sink in a bit, and then apply something with petro on top, to hold the moisture from the other balm in.

I love them. I have the Raspberry one and the Vanilla and Macadamia one, and they’re both fantastic balms, imo. Very creamy and softening and they smell great. The only downside is that they do leave you looking like you smeared lard on your lips – the white cast is kind of gross, but it disappears after it warms up on the skin.

If it’s any consolation – they’re impossible to find in Australia too! They’re quite nice but I agree with the comments about the white sheen which is annoying and while the smell is mild at best, it doesn’t have a taste at all. They’d be more use as a balm to put on thickly before you go to sleep, rather than using them under a liptstick.
