Clinique A Different Nail Enamel Summer 2013

Clinique A Different Nail Enamel is a new nail polish for sensitive skin users. According to Clinique a person touches their eyes an average of 200 times a day!

I always tell myself I won’t touch my eyes, face, or mouth any given day. This isn’t because I have sensitive or blemish prone skin but it is because I want to lessen the chances of getting ill especially around flu season. But that’s incredibly difficult!

If you’re a sensitive or you have eyes that get irritated easily Clinique’s new A Different Nail Enamel is formulated to not irritate eyes.

Did you know nail enamel can irritate eyes? I didn’t. The thought never even crossed my mind! Fresh manicures can potentially irritate sensitive eyes that’s why Clinique created A Different Nail Enamel.

A Different Nail Enamel ($16) was created for sensitive skins and eyes and is dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested for such skin types. I don’t have sensitive skin myself and I happen to be a biter….! So typically I reserved polish for my toes…but I thought I’d swatch (swatches are done on my arm with tape) some of the shades that I got to try out.

The formula has quite a lovely high shine and is quite quick drying. There’s also an Enamel Base and Top Coast available for sensitive skins. These are available in nine limited edition shades (all swatched in this post) for Summer 2013 and twelve other shades that will be added to Clinique’s permanent range of products.

Summer in the City

Clinique’s popular and iconic Black Honey shade makes an appearance as a nail polish in this collection as well.

Unfortunately I do not have an ingredients list for the polish but Clinique has always been a brand of products that caters to those with sensitive skin types. I’m unsure if you’ve personally experienced issues with irritated eyes after polish application but if you happen to fall into this category perhaps A Different Nail Enamel is for you!

A Different Nail Enamel for Sensitive Skins will premier at Clinique counters in May 2013 and will be available online at clinique.com

I still call BS on this being any use for people with anything more than the most sensitive skin known to man, but that Summer in the City color looks pretty awesome for Summer…I may check it out next time I am by a Clinique counter.

i’ll be honest I’m not sure. I didn’t even realize that nail polish was irritating to sensitive skin types…I’d love to hear from anyone that doesn’t experience problems with polish though. I imagine if you have sensitive eyes perhaps it is irritating!?

      • Tammie

Same…I mean when it’s wet/fresh I guess I understand, because there are still some fumes there…but they took a lot of the bad chemicals out of most of the nail polishes these days and anyway after it’s dry I can’t imagine how much of an effect it would have. I mean I have pretty sensitive eyes but it doesn’t bother me any more than it would if I poked myself in the eyeball with my naked nail lol. Who even touches their eye with their nails?? lol

        • the Muse

I guess when you rub your eye, the varnish on the nail might prove irritating as you rub? I’m not really an expert at nails at all lol!

I’m a bit skeptical too. However, I am tempted to pick one up just because I love nail polish and they look nice.

  • Cindy Ramirez

Ok I’m not the only one that thinks this is kinda stilly. Lol Now I don’t feel crazy!

When I was pregnant I got a horrible rash on my eyelids and checks. Went to the dermatologist and he suggested no more nail polish. I thought he was crazy….but turns out that’s what it was. I also got allergic to our cats and eczema on my hands, arms and knees. We nicknamed our daughter “leech baby”. 😀

I was at Von Maur last week to stock up on my Clinique skin care and nab their bonus, so I got a good look at these.

LOVED the Black honey and really wanted to get it, but it sold out in TWO days! lol

OH, and Muse, the consultant told me that they are re-launching their eyeshadows in July! I picked up two of my favorites as back-ups just in case they didn’t re-launch those particular colors, but the consultant seemed pretty sure they would, just a new, more pigmented version.

Something to look forward too…although I love the current formula so I hope they don’t mess it up! loll

OO tink that’s for the scoop DID not know about that :-D! I was hunting black honey too but my counter doesn’t yet have ’em!

When I use any nail polish I got allergic because most of them contain cobalt chloride and it makes my lids peel, scratch and it hurts a lot. I’m very happy with this new nail polishes I hope they work, Mavala also has great nail polishes for people like me 🙂

Beautiful colors, but this just screams gimmick to me. I use contacts and I wear nailpolish, and I’ve never had a problem. I’m sure there are people out there with extreme sensitivities, but a whole line of nail polish for the…2, 3? people who really are that sensitive sounds extreme.

  • Pealgius

Tammie, you keep saying it is BS, but it isn’t. I can’t wear ANYTHING that is nail enamel except THIS version. My sensitivities ARE that extreme, as were both my grandmothers’ – their eyes lit up every time someone opened a bottle of nail polish. I have bought and tried all kinds of nail enamels that claim to be hypoallergenic, but they make my eyes water and itch, my skin red, and give me headaches. I’m sorry but yes, there are some of us who really are that sensitive to fragrances … everything in my house is fragrance free from soup to shampoo to shave cream. I can use natural oils that don’t have chemicals, but I can wear scent but it doesn’t last.

  • Pealgius

Wow, Katie, that’s mean. There are a lot of us. Otherwise Clinique wouldn’t exist. The entire line is for people with sensitivities. That’s why Almay exists as well.

  • Tammie

Nobody was saying that it’s BS to be sensitive to fragrances. I just don’t think many people would have their eyes harmed when they touch their eyes with dried nail polish.

My favorite color wasn’t swatched:( I love the color called: fizzy. Looks like champagne on the nails, so pretty:)
