Etude House Precious Mineral BB Cream Cotton Fix Review & Swatches

Etude House Precious Mineral BB Cream Cotton Fix Summer 2013

Etude House updates its Precious Mineral BB Cream this Spring with a new Cotton Fix formula. The Etude House Precious Mineral BB Cream Cotton Fix has an SPF 30 and a fluffy, silky texture which supposedly feels as soft as cotton.

I didn’t really love the original formula of Etude House Precious Mineral BB Cream so I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about Cotton Fix but I decided to give a whirl.

Here’s a few thoughts!

Etude House Precious Mineral BB Cream Cotton Fix

Etude House Precious Mineral BB Cream Cotton Fix SPF 30 is available in two shades selections and comes in a tube with a pump attached. I think it deserves to be mentioned I dislike this packaging as I find I have to pump two or three times sometimes to get product out of the tube. A squeeze tube would suit me just fine, I really don’t need the pump dispenser, this just adds drama to get the product out.

Etude House dubbed this Cotton Fix because the formula supposedly has a soft, fluffy texture like cotton. It’s more a thinner creamy consistency with a silky feel versus a fluffy one. I think that’s slightly misleading since I think fluffy and I think mousse-like and that isn’t what you get here. It is however, a creamier thinner texture that applies and blends easily onto skin. The formula supposedly contains Cotton Veil Powder, Pearl Extract, and Cotton Veil Powder. It’s formulated as an anti-aging, whitening, and sun protecting BB Cream.

I purchased the second shade selection, Natural Beige, which is a creamy beige shade with a softer peach undertone. This would be best suited for medium fair skin types with warmer undertones. The formula doesn’t technically offer long term whitening but will ease dullness so skin appears brighter and healthier.

Etude House Precious Mineral BB Cream Cotton Fix Swatches

It is water based so it has a moisturizing feel but isn’t greasy or oily nor does it accentuate my drier areas. It doesn’t feel heavy on my skin and has a lightweight texture that can be built up easily for full coverage. I’d say coverage ranges from sheer to medium depending how much you apply. As with many Etude House BB Creams it has an excellent wear time so from morning until night it stays on my face without fading, oxidizing, or disappearing.

Etude House Precious Mineral BB Cream Cotton Fix is quite nice but nothing I absolutely love. I’ve tried so many BB Creams at this point but I still know what I like and something seems to be missing from this formula. I didn’t feel like it gave me that airbrushed, perfect finish that some of my other BB Creams offer. It’s a nice formula all in all but not one of the best I’ve personally tried.

It’s available now on E-bay as well as a variety of online shops.

Tried it?

Would love to hear your thoughts!

I purchased this item.

I have wear-time issues with BB Cream…what is your favorite Etude House one/which lasts the longest? I’m curious to try it now…xD

    • the Muse

hey tammie, I’m actually a little meh on EH BB Creams to be honest. They are ok but not really my favorite!

      • Tammie

I’ll just keep poking around then, I haven’t really found a favorite yet (not that I’ve tried a lot)~

  • Cj

I wonder if shade 1 is light enough for me :O I got super lucky with the tarte bb primer, fair is a perfect match for me 🙂

    • the Muse

I have to check with a friend of mine who grabbed 1, I haven’t actually seen it myself/swatched it but EH normally goes pretty fair with their first shade ;D

  • Karina

Hi Muse!!! I loooooove your page and reviews 😀 Greetings from Mexico 🙂

What bb cream do you recommend for oily skin? I want to try a bb cream but It is so difficult to choose. I’m tan (mac40) btw xD It makes my search more difficult hahaha

    • the Muse

I’m not really sure karina, I don’t have oily skin so unfortunately don’t have a ton of recs for BB Creams for oil skin. Most are suitable for ALL skin types according to the brands 🙂 thanks so much by the way so glad you’re enjoying Musings. Do check back, as I’m sure some reader will reply with an excellent rec for your skin type/tone. Missha is typically the best way to go when it comes to tanned skin 🙂

    • Jen

Hey just wanted to say that I’m Mexican too so I’ve had the same problem finding dark bb creams and the only BB creams that I know of that have more than two shades are Etude Precious Mineral which has honey beige and sand beige and Missha Perfect Cover which has honey beige and golden beige (although I heard this one was a little orange-y). I use honey beige from both brands and I would say that Missha’s is a little darker. Hope this helps! (Also if worst comes to worst you could always try mixing your regular foundation and bb cream together)

      • Karina

Woow thank you very much! I’m going to try Missha bb cream, it sounds like a really good option. Thanks again !!!

  • Deb

Hi Muse. You said this was moisturizing but not greasy. Like you, I have dry skin and am always trying to find that balance between moisture and grease. Did this dry down? Or stay moist? Thanks.

  • Angie K.

Hello! I am in the market to purchase a BB cream, I am totally new to all this. But I started at the beginning and read all your reviews on BB creams(thanks for the great info!) and i am considering skin79 pink or Dr Jart black label. I’m leaning more towards Dr Jart due to how convienient it is to to get off Sephora. But I’m also thinking of getting a small one from skin79. I know you said a while back that the skin79 “official” website is not actually the official one. Are you talking about the skin79northamerica.com website? I’ve read it’s the main one to go with on other sites but you seem to know exactly what you’re talking about. Thank you for your wonderful and informative posts! I also tried the urban decay and loved it! It made my face glow so I’m excited to see how a real BB works!

    • the Muse

hi angie how are you? So excited you’re discovering the joys of BB Creams 🙂 That is not skin79’s official site, skin79 doesn’t have a shop in the US. I haven’t technically used that site….there also used to an EtudeHouse Official site as well WHICH was not related to Etude House that got shut down. Just be careful when purchasing items from shops online….! I suggest checking out Sasa.com or some of the E-bayer sellers I’ve recommended in the past, those are trust worthy places to grab your goodies from 🙂 I really enjoyed the Urban Decay one as well! Great stuff ;-D good luck! have fun! and do comment back curious how you make out!

      • Angie K.

I am super excited to get my Dr Jart black I ordered the other day. I almost went with the gold because it was actually there in my sephora. But I read your reviews on all the Dr Jarts so I just sucked it up and ordered the black. I felt like you gave it the better review to suit me. Ill write back in a couple days and let you know details! Thanks!

        • Angie K.

I had a quick question if you don’t mind. I’ve been using my urban decay bb a few times around the house. I decided to put on my makeup on and go out and see how it felt. I couldn’t get any blush or bronzer to show up. It’s hard to say but the texture of the cream wouldn’t let me put anything over it. I set it I thought with tarte clay powder. Is it harder to get face powders on over bb creams? Thank you

          • the Muse

i’ve never had that problem angie…weird…! I use a slew of different bb creams and never had a problem with blushes or setting powders…maybe a little more moisture prior to bb cream application?

          • Angie K.

Hey there! I just want to thank you for your great reviews! I got my Dr Jart black and have been using daily. I am in LOVE! I can’t believe a BB cream looks so much like a regular foundation. It’s giving me hydration and color back to my face without needing all the foundation and blush. The color blends so perfectly into my face! I did find it wears off after about half and day for me at at work so maybe 5 or 6 hours. Is that usual and is it okay to reapply through out the day? I can’t WAIT to try skin79 or skinfood based again on your reviews. I’m so glad I found your site!

          • the Muse

aw my pleasure angie and so glad you’re loving it! sure! you absolutely can! I typically get through the day with it but five/six hours is still FAB! you can def reapply though…! 😀 just be sure to bring blush with you as reapplying will fade your blush away. Aw flattered! so glad you found me too!

Hi Angie, I totally agree with Muse, skin79 North America claims they’re the “official” site, but I wouldn’t trust them either, as anyone can make a website and call themselves “official.” Prettyandcute.com, & imomoko.com are authorized resellers & ship very fast as far as ordering skin79 (and many other Asian products) in the U.S. Sasa.com is also very reputable, but u will have to wait longer, as they’re based in Hong Kong. Also, eBay seller Pink Gelee is a great one. She used to be on Amazon but sells on eBay now, and her products are completely authentic. Other good eBay sellers are F2plus1, rubyruby76, biz-inside, & cosmeticmarket2012. Btw, the new skin79 products manufactured after Dec 2012 no longer have an authenticity sticker. Apparently Skin79 did away with them for some reason, I’ve confirmed this through several reliable sources, including the websites I listed above (prettyandcute & imomoko). Good luck!

      • the Muse

christi gave same excellent pointers…:) although I wouldn’t go with pretty and cute, she’s a little pricey 🙁 also imomoko.com seems to really have jacked up prices lately as well 🙁 and rubyruby76 sometimes has old skincare she sells 🙁 and you have to wait near three weeks for a shipment 🙁

      • Angie K.

Thank you! I am ordering tomorrow so I really appreciate the pointers! I read so many bad stories about fake bottles it almost just made me give up. Now I’m sure ill find a bottle at a decent price 🙂

  • Angie K.

Also have you heard of or tried the Perfekt skin gel? I read mixed reviews on it. I’m interested in it but for almost $60 a bottle I’m not that risky! They do have a smaller $15 bottle I think but there’s so many things to try I don’t know if Perfekt is worth it.

    • the Muse

i haven’t angie, I hear a ton of raves but never tried it myself 🙁 sorry!

    • Deb

      Hi Angie,
I’ve tried the Perfekt several times. I’ve gotten several samples over the last few years and so far have not been able to figure out how to make it work. Main problem: it pills. I’ve tried it by itself, in combination with other products underneath such as sunscreen/serum/moisturizers, etc. Still pills. I’ve also tried every application method I could think of; fingers, brushes, sponges. I did actually get it to work (sort of) a couple of times by very carefully patting in on with my fingers. It was slow work and then when I went to put anything on top like blush, etc, it started pilling again. I finally just gave up.

      • Angie K.

Thanks! I actually went ahead and ordered the small one off sephora earlier, I hope I get some kind of use. I’ve read a lot of mixed reviews on it so if it doesn’t work I plan on returning. I don’t want to spend any more money on things that doesn’t work lol

  • patty

Hi, I’m Patty from Philippines. It seems that you’re not that into EH bb creams,I wanted to purchase it but seeing your review, It gave me second thought. I was using their precious mineral all day strong before and it was good, I finished it up but now I’m using Skin Food Good afternoon bb cream Berry Berry tea but I oil up really fast as in after I have put it and I wasn’t even leaving our house my face was already a grease ball. May I ask, as of now, which bb cream suits you best or can I say your favorite? 😀

    • the Muse

hi patty my favorite are shills 8 in 1, brtc jasmine water, the oriental, and currently I am in LOVE with Tony Moly’s new CC Cream 🙂 it’s awesome.

  • patty

I have read your review on tony moly cc cream, you really like it maybe it’s really good. And thank god I have a sample of it to try, it’s a freebie from my online purchase. I was thinking if that sample will be that good and it’s a perfect timing about your review, Thanks! 🙂 BTW, I also love EH baby choux base, it’s really good ^_^ and I’m keeping myself of tasting it! LOL Just kidding, it’s like a whipped cream. Sweet Recipe line was by far my most favorite collection as of now. 🙂

    • the Muse

i really liked it, hopefully you will too! me too! the baby choux looks like dessert seriously ;-D I really loved the Tangerine Collection from last year, those palettes were to die for ;-D wish they did a few shadow palettes with the sweet recipe collection instead of the mere one 🙁

      • patty

Yes the shadows was limited, same as you I wish it came in a palette form rather than duos 🙁 I also purchased their all over color in strawberry chiffon, It’s not that good for lips, it is drying but on my cheeks it gives that “dolly” like effect and I like it that much. Maybe because of the scent also, it’s addicting to sniff it LOL. I wish that line is not that LE, But as usual EH always change 🙁

        • the Muse

the small chocolate eyeshadow palette was nice but a little uneventful 🙁 I like the doll cheeks too 🙂 yeah sigh….! 🙁 The new Blooming Collection looks lovely btw! have you tried any of it yet?

  • Vicki

Isabella!! Can you share what some of your favorite Asian BB Creams are? I would like to get myself one!

    • the Muse

hi vicki, look through the comments, just replied that yesterday 🙂 hope it helps!

  • Rafia

Just a heads up, the Cotton Fit BB comes in 3 shades ^_^ Just thought I let you know.

  • Anastasiya

I liked this BB cream but it was to dark for me 🙁 Also (sorry this has nothing to do with this product) do you know if skin79 is still putting authenticy stickers on their BB creams? I have heard from some people that they have stopped putting them on because the counterfeiters were starting to put them on the fake BB creams.Sorry for bothering you i’m confused if they are still putting them on or not 🙂

    • the Muse

as far as I know they are still putting the stickers on…

  • Vanessa

hi muse 🙂 i love your blog! i just wanted to ask you which bb cream you think is the best for dry, sensitive skin?

  • Denzen10

I am not very fond of EH BB creams either actually..I have the Precious Mineral BB Cream and the BBdation. Doesn’t work for me really. I stick with Heroine Make and Holika Holika definitely. I wanna try Skin79 and BRTC though :p

  • Anabelle

I’ve tried a lot of BB Creams and I still find that the one that best work for me are Etude House’s because others make me break out 🙁 although I did like last year’s formula better than the Cotton Fix one because it’s a tiny bit drying in my opinion, but, which one do you think it’s the best?

Other question, I bought the CC Cream too (from the same seller you did) but I find that it takes AGES to change color, is it normal?

    -xo

    • the Muse

i didn’t really like either one anabelle. No…seems to adjust as soon as I applied 🙂

  • Raymond

What’s the best BB cream you’ve ever tried, and why? 🙂

  • Lovely

Hi! I love how you reviewed this product!
I would like to ask if you can recommend a BB cream with matte finish and lightweight, because all bb creams are dewy and greasy.
    Thank you! Hope you’ll reply.

    • Alanna

      hey lovely ^_^
I’m not the muse but my current favorite for a matte finish (with decent oil control, if you need it) is missha m signature complete. It has pretty good coverage, but I like to sheer it out and put a powder on top for really humid/greasy days. It also comes in a lot of shades, and you can buy a smaller trial size from missha to see if it’s something you want to use a lot. Another thing you could try even though it’s not a bb cream, but YSL touche eclat is really nice sheer applied with fingers, and has a nice soft slightly matte finish. What I like about that foundation is even if my face gets oily, it still looks good. Best results if you use a primer before both of these! I like holika holika silky veil (again excellent for oil control). phew! sorry if this is too long, lol.

Hi! I have acne prone/sensitive/combination skin. More than year ago, I used Etude House Precious Mineral BB Cream (All Day Strong, Sheer Silky Skin), it was my first time to use a BB Cream of any type. After a few months of using it daily, it gave me a terrible break-out 🙁 I got pimples all over my face, although it isn’t completely terrible that my derma wouldn’t call it acne. She calls it a ‘mild break-out’, I think. About half a year has passed and I still have the pimple marks all over my face but the break-out has stopped (other than the occasional pimple) thanks to maintenance facial wash and meds, and treatment from my derma. I guess my point is, considering that I am now traumatized with my experience with the Etude House BB Cream, is this BB Cream really that good that you would still recommend it to me? Has it been good for your face so far? No break-outs? Not even a little?

I mean, I really love the dewy, porcelain look that the BB Cream gave me. I felt like a doll! But I’m just really scared of what comes afterwards. Reading your post makes me want to buy the product (haha) but I’m not sure >.<

    So. Help?

Hi there,I just found ur blog and bookmark it immediately ,love ur blog :3
    I’m from Indonesia ~
Btw,I’m still a newbie at this kind of stuff
I hv some questions to ask, since I’m still 17 I hv combination skin, but lately ALL my face become really dry because intensive acne treatment products (actually I’m not that severe,I just want to get rid of the blemishes on my nose :'( ) so I’m really picky to choose new products that suits me in this new condition. Is this bb cream suits for my age?or any Etude BB cream suggestion that moisturizing? I hv sensitive skin on my cheek though. Thankyou <3
