Etude House Sweet Recipe Chocolate Smudge Liner Review & Swatches

Etude House Sweet Recipe Chocolate Smudge Liner 1

How cute is the new Etude House Sweet Recipe Chocolate Smudge Liner? Looks like a little Valentine’s Day chocolate doesn’t it? Tell me you just didn’t squeal a little looking at it.

You did right?

Me too!

Etude House Sweet Recipe Chocolate Smudge Liner is one of two limited edition shades of gel eyeliner which can be used as a base for shadows, as a liner, or smudged across the lash line for a sultry look! It comes in a rich dark chocolate or a milky chocolate shade (the shade featured in this review).

After trying out this one I decided I wanted to go ahead and indulge in the darker one as well! Not only is it cute it’s a rather fun little product. This has a gel-like eyeliner consistency and applies easily without skipping or tugging. The real joy is how easily it smudges out after application. It doesn’t technically set after applying so this gives you plenty of time to play around with it and smudge it out to your hearts content.

Don’t get me wrong I have any number of gel eyeliners from many of my favorite brands like Bobbi Brown and MAC. This is however, super cheap and seems to have a really easy to use formula that just excels at smudging easily without any effort or know how. It has that type of formula that’s virtually foolproof. It sets after a minute or so and seems to wear for me long and strong without fading or creasing as the day progressed.

I LOVE this.

It’s cute, it’s practical, and it makes my big brown eyes look rather sultry.

Do buy it.

Muse Approved.

Many E-bay sellers have it for small chunks of change ($8 or so).

I’m so torn between this and Tony Moly Backstage Gel Eyeliner :”(
All the reviews I’ve read said the Tony Moly one is better than Maybelline Studio Gel Eyeliner, i was so sure that i would buy it but here comes this Etude Eyeliner which is too cute to resist, and if i buy the Etude one, i will have to buy it super cute pocky-like eyeliner brush too T^T (idk if it’s a good thing or not)

Oh,wow, it really does compliment your brown eyes really well…I think I have a new lemming!

  • Emi

    This is adorable!

Unrelated question: what mascara(s) are you wearing in your picture? Your lashes look so good! Your overall look in this post is very lovely ^^

Hi Muse!I love this liner I must have it:) As a side note as a long time follower of your blog, you must tell me how many of these hair bands you have and where you got them! They look perfect for when I want to wash my face and hold my hair back

    • the Muse

hi rock lobster thanks so much 😉 you’re too kind, really loving the liner. I just got them in a variety of smaller asian shops on canal street or flushing, I have a few. I like to keep my hair out of my face when I work and they do just the trick 🙂

  • Mei

Just ordered one of these and I’m waiting on it to get to me. I couldn’t resist hauling most of the sweet recipe collection, it’s too cute! Glad to hear you were able to achieve a sultry eye look, I bought it hoping it would do exactly that considering the word “smudge” is in it’s name!

    • the Muse

the smudging effect is super easy to do mei too! which makes it even more appealing;D

  • Louise

I LOVEEE this eyeliner. I think the formula is on par with the Bobbi Brown gel liner but at a much cheaper price. Maybe it’s just me but I find that my BB gel liner fades more than this liner after a long day. What do you think?

    • the Muse

mmmmmmmmmmm BB is my HG and I loves it ;-D this is a little less thick than BB but formula def lived up to a high end at a fraction of the cost. no issues with fading for me on either product 🙂

  • Cindy Ramirez

I really thought this was chocolate. This is SO effin’ cute!! Loooove love love this. Someone needs to tell Etude house to sell their stuff in America already D:<

  • Telma

I should stop reading your blog – I just bought this one too! Or maybe I should cancel my Paypal account?
Thanks for all the korean products reviews!

  • Eva

    Hi Muse,
Could you please recommend couple eBay sellers carry etude house products with reasonable price? I found imomoko and yesstyle are way too overpriced. Thanks!

    • the Muse

hi eva f1plus2 and zinoparks are two I’ve used (not affiliated) hope this helps!

  • Patsy Desautel

Just bought the milk chocolate and dark chocolates colors AND a few other things from the same store on ebay. If its coming all the way from Korea, might as well stock up! I might have to stop reading your blog, you’re bad for my credit card ;). LOL

    • the Muse

lol sorry about that patsy ;D did you get your goodies?

  • Kathleen @ pointofviewty

O.M.G. I LOVE this on you!!! I don’t know whether it’s all the dark at the lash line or this product in particular, but it’s amazing. I feel like you’re e-sexing me with your eyes. Not that I’m being creepy. I would buy this for the intensity alone, but I just don’t think it would look the same on my light medium skin tone! The packaging is super cute too… What a conundrum.

    AHMUNNAEATIT! o.o

My husband is going to be so confused if he sees this on my vanity. Sometimes the simple explanation of “Korean beauty products” is enough for him. Now let’s see if he’ll say the same thing about the Korean snail goo that’s in my shopping list.

  • Eva

I think I bought it just for the packaging!Too cute!
I bought both colors. The light shade can be a base for brown smokey eyes which the eye shadow to last longer and make it look brighter as well.
    I’m loving it!

  • Patsy

I got my ‘goodies’ and the wear is great! Surprised how well they blend those first few seconds, then it lasts all day. Thank you!

  • Jodie

Hi Muse, I’ve only tried Bobbi Brown before and I was wondering how this compares? Which do you like better?

BTW, this looks lovely on you. Very sultry which is why I am considering it!

    • the Muse

they aren’t really comparable Jodie…bobbi’s is much better quality, creamier…this is cute as well but Bobbi def is better quality.
