Holika Holika Real Butter Lip Balm Review

Holika Holika Real Butter Lip Balm

Well, Holika Holika Real Butter Lip Balm is the worst kind of packaging but I purchased it anyway because it brings me back to my makeup roots with its cute vintage slide packaging.

I dunno about you but lip slides like this were all the rage in my childhood. As we get older we begin to realize they are a germ-fest but when we’re young, for some reason, our innocent selves absolutely love the idea of a lip balm in a slide out tin. Shrug…who knows where that mentality comes from but even in older age they are still terribly appealing.

I expected to slide this little tin open to reveal a pat of butter inside. They remind me of those little butter packages that come with your carb basket at a restaurant. Holika Holika introduced them in butter, milk (vanilla) and strawberry flavors recently. I only purchased one because honestly, carrying these around and dipping my fingers into them to apply is terribly unappealing. I keep the one I have on my end table and apply it before bed in the evenings.

Holika Holika Real Butter Balm

Supposedly it contains pure vegetable butter….I doubt it but it’s fun thinking I’m smearing butter on my lips *shrug* I’m easily amused and find joy in the little stuff.

It has a dense to the touch texture at first but warms up on contact with fingers (and lips) and turns into a slippery, lip oil-like, emollient lip balm. The formula softens my lips, aids flakes and redness from chapped lips, and hydrates quite nicely with a buttercream-like flavor.

I think I paid like a $2 bucks after converting from Won to USD but Evil-bayers have them for around four to five dollars each. Not sure you absolutely need to indulge considering the wonky packaging but I will admit they have a hell of a nice formula that soothed my dry, chapped lips with plenty of moisture!

Anyone try?

Do share!

I purchased this item.

Yeah I only buy potted balms for use before bed and in the morning when I am already washing my hands like 80 times while washing my face/putting things on it.

Would you say the effect lasted a while? I am curious as to how this would be as a pre-bedtime balm for overnight use.

same here..they are just too messy for travel grossness. good lasting effects also healed up my chapped lips nicely. they start out hard though at first but warmed up they feel like a slippery lip oil! made my lips nice and soft and hydrated ;-D

Yeah, there is no way I would take a potted balm with me out for usage, too gross haha.

That’s good to hear, I think I’ll try it out even though it’s like $7 on eBay >.>. A good balm is hard to find so I guess it’s worth the markup.

BTW the seller that I am thinking of buying it from says the directions are to use the top of your nail to scrape off a layer and then rub it into your lips. Maybe that’s why it’s so hard?

sasa.com has it too I think Tam! could be I actually just pressed hard into the balm and that kinda gets it “started” so to speak 🙂

kinda buttercream-ish…little vanilla, little buttery…hard to describe.

It’s funny, I kind of like butter a little too much. This looks like something my friends would get me as a gift, lol!
