Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Liquid Metal Eyeliner Trio Review & Swatches

Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Liquid Metal Eyeliner Trio 13

This Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Liquid Metal Eyeliner Trio was launched a few months ago but I just recently tried it out so I decided to finally review it.

Unfortunately, I stink at liquid lining but I picked it up as I was thinking some of the shades would act great as a liquid eyeshadow.

Each set comes with three shades of eyeliner that promise 14 hours of wear. I’m not really an expert on liquid eyeliner but I muck about with them a fair bit as I’m always trying to perfect my cat eye. I find Physicians Formula version a little challenging to work with. For example, the black has excellent pigment but it has a slow setting time which means if I blink chances are I’ll smudge it before it has a second to dry down. Secondly, the rather floppy thin brush isn’t for n00bs like myself. I find you need a straight, dense brush for liquid eyeliner application…a floppy brush is going to just make your job harder. Wear time varies but on my drier eyes they wear decently for about four hours before I see minor flaking at around hour five or six. It’s not a bad flaking but you’ll notice it peels up a little and starts to fall onto cheeks.

I didn’t buy them for lining though…I did buy them to use as eyeshadow. The black isn’t great for this but the other two shades Nude and Champagne make lovely sparkling liquid cream eyeshadows. You apply them with the included brush, pat into place, and presto metallic sparkling eyelids!

I really like these. I like to layer the black one over a black pencil liner – I find the sparkles show up more that way. The lighter shades are great for under eyes too – I haven’t seen shades like that in the drug store before.

I love you idea of using them as an allover liquid shadow. Can’t wait to try that!

Have em and HATE THEM. I bought them for lining….epic fail. Brushes stink . You can not even get a straight line as the bristles splay and spread Even with a light touch. If you “over line” it peels off and flake in ONE PIECE… SOO GROSS. save your money or use as a shadow

don’t like ’em for lining either but def cool for eyeshadow ;D

That black looks so so lovely, but the long dry down time just doesn’t work for me. Womp womp. The other colors are nice too!

  • Avalith

The metallic colors remind me of the Urban Decay liquid liners! They look great for under eye area

Wow! These look amazing. I can definitely use the 2 lighter shades as cream shadows. I guess it’s good then I’m going to CVS tomorrow.

I love your description here- sooo fun. They are surely original, aren’t they? I passed them up a few weeks ago; I was really bogged down by the seeming “impracticality” or something. Thanks for the great swatches!! xoxo Beth in Pgh 😉

hehe thanks Beth! yeah, they are kinda not worth picking up just as shadows (bc as liners they stink le sigh).

I’m returning mine. 🙁 I bought them on a whim and I just CAN’T make them work. The brush is too floppy!

Genius, Muse, sheer genius on your part! I am no amateur when it comes to liquid liners but the brush on these just plain ol’ suck and make lining a drag (pun intended). However, after reading your review, I used the champagne one as an eyeshadow base and love it. Thanks a bunch for the suggestion.

yayyayayayaya! my pleasure! they really are stinky brushes :-/ plus seems they shed a little too. I LOVED it as a shadow though (or a base) it looks so pretty and sparkly! 😀 damn shame they suck as a liquid liner 🙁

Hi Muse! Long time reader, 1st time commenting! I LOOOVE PF’s shimmer strips collection: eyeshadow pallettes, eyeliners, and now these! I use the champagne nude one around the inner corner of my eyes just like eyeliner, and it adds a dewy bright eyes finish…makes me look less sleepy! I’ve also used the smokey collection: silver for inner eye, pewter for mid eyelid top and bottom & black outer…makes a neat eye catching look with some light nude shadow as a base 🙂

hi tara so sorry for the delayed reply thanks for the comment 😀 yay someone else that uses these outside of lining with ;-D thanks! gonna try your look out, sounds lovely ;D!

Boo. I recently came across these at Walmart, and being a HUGE liquid eyeliner gal, I really wanted to love these. The brushes are terrible and the black is watered-down and pretty cheaply made. After reading your post, I feel like I should give the copper and champagne colors one more try.
